Breed: Best Special Beginner in Show & Stakes Classes

It was a great pleasure to judge 13 of the possible 27 exhibits that presented in the ring for the challenge. All performed well and standards were high. My final choices were as follows.

BEST SPECIAL BEGINNER IN GROUP

Group 1 Clutterbuck’s Lhasa Apso. TIMAZINTI GIN FIZZ. 2yrs old. Gave such a professional performance throughout judging. Handler presented this dog to show its best features and used the ring to advantage when asked to move. Soundly built female, balanced in outline and is well angulated. Coat is heavy with long straight hair. She was very in tune with her handler to portray a lovely outline when standing and moving.

Group 2 Irvine, Irvine & Reid’s Tibetan Spaniel. TULIBELL MONTY’S GIRL. 4yrs old with an alert expression and confident character. Good head carriage and well-balanced outline. Well placed eyes, ears of good size and set. Coat is silky in texture with appropriate feathering to legs, tail and mane. Produced a positive and quick moving action. Another super team who delivered a strong performance.

Group 3 Church’s Min. Poodle. JOLEENA MAGNIFQUE PIERE JW. 2yrs black coated and beautifully presented. Looking elegant and well balanced on the table. Head long with typical chiselled foreface, dark almond eyes, low set leathers hanging close to the face. Correct length of neck, well laid shoulders, straight forelegs. Body deep and hindquarters have well bent stifles. Coat profuse with harsh texture and expertly groomed. Produced plenty of drive when moving out and around the ring.

Group 4 Dyer’s Tibetan Terrier. WAVERLEYS EASY ON THE EYE JW. 22mths female who presented as well-schooled by her handler. Square in outline and of sturdy build without exaggeration. Head correctly balanced with dark eyes, ears being well set onto the skull. Compact in body with firm back. Forelegs are well set with tight elbows, and rear legs show well bent stifles. Tail set high and always carried over the back. Desired texture to her double coat. Tracked straight once settled in her stride and produced good reach and drive in side profile.

VETERAN STAKES AV D/B 19/13abs

1st Whitehead’s Kooikerhondje. GLADSHEIM HELIOS OF SAKURAI. 8yrs old male in superb condition. Parti-coloured coat of brilliant colours. Self-confident and keen attitude. Balanced outline with nothing exaggerated. Good example of sound breed type. Level back, deep chest good angles to front and rear. Excellent tail carriage and very sound on the move.

2nd Hunt & Oliver’s Chow Chow. MOSSPARK BLUE SPANGLE. 9 ½ yrs old female. Still sporting a beautiful blue coat. Compact build with a well knitted framework, strong bone and sound limbs. Head having broad skull, defined stop and moderate length of muzzle. Eyes dark and clean. Small thick ears standing erect, short neck and level back with ample spring to ribs. Tail set high. Moved freely, skimming the ground with a steady short stride.

MEG PURNELL-CARPENTER MEMORIAL CHAMPION STAKES 16/7abs

1st Dawson’s Min Schnauzer. CH GRYSELDA STEP IN TIME. Made his presence known on entering the ring. Robustly built and square in outline. Strong head with masculine expression from oval shaped, dark eyes, flat skull, prominent stop and powerful jaws with correct dentition. Flat shoulders, straight forelegs, deep body, well angulated rear, level back and high tail set of moderate length. Free and vigorous movement showing good reach in front and strong drive from the rear.

2nd Harris’s Keeshond. CH AMIKIRS LOVER BOY FOR WATCHKEES. Sturdy male with a compact build inside his glorious, harsh, off standing coat. Head returning a fox-like expression with dark eyes and small pointed ears all framed by a large ruff of coarse hair. Good bone to forelegs, shoulders well sloped, back level and tail set on high tightly curled over his back. Delivered a consistent, straight and sharp gait with accurate footfall.

AV Minor Puppy Dog 15/12abs

1st Rogerson’s German Spitz (Mittel). TISPITZA’S DAMNED BY RUMOUR WITH NOSREGOR. Short coupled with correct proportions and confident character. Of good breed type with a wedge-shaped head, defined stop and correct length of muzzle, clean cheeks and tight lips. Oval eyes set obliquely, Small triangular and erect ears. Moderate neck length and set well into the shoulders. Elbows lying close to a well ribbed body. Forelegs straight. Hind legs firm with good width to thighs and hocks well let down. Movement was brisk and straight with true stride, good head and tail carriage

2nd Cunninhgam’s Korean Jindo. YULEONG ON TO A WINNER. Placed 1st in AV Imported Breeds Register Utility Puppy Dog class. See previous notes.

3rd Shulver’s Shih Tszu. SHIDAZZLE QUARTZITE STAR OF CRIMSONLEASH

AV Minor Puppy Bitch 14/0abs

1st Jackson & Wright’s Jap.Shiba Inu. LASCAR IT TAKES TWO (IKC) RAF. 6mths old. Lovely example of this breed. Sturdy build and typical sweet expression from her dark brown, obliquely set eyes. Clean head, straight muzzle and correct scissor bite. Medium length of neck, shoulders moderately laid with correct angle to upper arm and straight forelegs. Body has level back and moderate tuck up. Hind quarters set parallel with a longer upper thigh and firm hocks. Tail is of good length with a strong root and set on high. Coat colour and texture developing into a strong red. Movement was free and easy with a consistent stride and accurate footfall.

2nd Elvidge, Webb & Davies’s Tibetan Terrier. WATERLEYS SWEET INSPIRATION. 7mths old. Has an eye catching and generally square outline in a black/white coat of good density. Skull is medium length with correct curve to the zygomatic arch, stop is defined and muzzle of correct proportions. Large round eyes, set well apart. Pendant ears set fairly high on the skull. Neck is of medium length. Well laid shoulders, long upper arm and straight forelegs. Body showing ample spring to ribs, level back finished with high tai set. Another who displayed accurate footfall and good reach in front when viewed from all angles.

1st Adam-Slomkowski’s Lhasa Apso. SKYLAS POWER OF LOVE. Sturdily built with a sweet, confident nature. Correct head proportions, Eyes dark and correctly set. Ears of proportionate size. Neckline arching into well laid shoulders. Forelegs straight. Body has good length to ribs and back is level. Tail carried high over the back. Rear is well angulated with firm, parallel hocks. Coat hair is straight and rich in colour. Animated on the move with a free action which covered the ground efficiently.

2nd Webb’s Chow Chow. CHARIDS QUEEN OF DIAMONDS AT CHIFIDO JW. 11 mths old with a very attractive head, correct dentition, small triangular ears and clean dark eyes returning an alert expression. Neck set well onto the shoulders with a good ruff. Compact body of correct proportions with a level back, Tail is set high and carried over the back. Straight forelegs. Balanced angulations to both the front and rear limbs. Profuse coat with a coarse outer hair and dense undercoat. Gait was smooth and free on the out and back with good ground coverage on the go around.

AV JUNIOR D/B STAKES

1st Duncan’s Tibetan Spaniel. SUSU APPLEY EVER AFTER JW. Well balanced profile and correct tail set and carriage. Proud head carriage with chin having depth and width. Oval shape correct set to eyes, returning a lively expression. Short neck covered with a good shawl of longer hair. Back is level. Body has ample spring and length to ribcage. Moderate bone and straight forelegs with well laid shoulders. Well-made rear with moderate angle at the stifle. Produced a quick moving and positive action and kept a good head and tail carriage on the move.

2nd Laffling’s Tibetan Terrier. TAXIKI CAUSIN’ CHAOS. Another soundly built youngster of good breed type. Outline is square with balanced angulation, a strong topline and high set tail. Typical head features, eyes round and dark with tight rims. Pendant ears set fairly high on the skull and well feathered. Meduim length to neck, well laid shoulders, tight elbows and well-developed ribcage. Sporting a striking black/white coat of correct texture. Owned the ring on the move making full use of his limbs to track straight with good reach in front and strong drive from the rear.

PRESIDENT’S OPEN STAKES AV D/B 21/14abs

1st Parkinson & Dunhill-Hall’s Eurasier. KAYDANMY FUEL TO THE FIRE. An imposing profile with an eye-catching glorious coat of rich red colour. Such a showman too! Well boned throughout with correct body proportions, well defined withers, back is firm and straight with a well-developed loin area. Correct spring and good length to ribs. Front and rear quarters are balanced in angulation with excellent muscle tone. Tail carried high over the back with profuse furnishing. Graceful movement returning power and limb convergence at optimum speed. Demonstrated a rhythmic action and moderate stride in side view.

2nd Hunter’s Dalmatian. SALVADORADA HER HIGNESS. Very clean outline with evenly distributed liver spotting over the body. Head of correct shape with well-placed eyes giving an alert and intelligent expression. Clean neckline which flowed into well placed shoulders. Forehand has good length to upper arm, elbows set tight to body, strong bone and tight feet. Hindquarters being well rounded with excellent muscle tone and good turn of stifle. Tail is of correct length and carriage. Displayed a sound and active gait using a long stride to cover the ground efficiently.

KENNEL CLUB GOOD CITIZEN DOG SCHEME STAKES AV D/B 31/20abs

1st Keepence & Keete’s Tibetan Spaniel. OLDCHARM PEAKY LOVE FOR ALANDOBEL JW. 3yrs male with a mature fawn coat colour which is silky in texture. Head carried high on short well set neck. Body of good proportions for length and depth. Forelegs are firm at the shoulder with moderate bone. Rear is well constructed with balanced angulations. Tail richly plumed and set high over the back. Delivered a typical quick and free action on the move.

2nd Stocks’s Dalmatian. NOSPAR’S GIN AND TONIC JW. Female of 3 ½ yrs. Symmetrical and elegant outline with distinct liver spotting. Head is of equal proportions with flat skull, clean jaws and correct dentition. High set ears carried close to the head. Nicely arching neckline, well laid shoulders, chest is deep and ribs well sprung. Rear legs having well developed muscle, good turn of stifle and strong hocks. Moved soundly and used the ring to advantage.

KENNEL CLUB BREEDER COMPETITION 3/1abs

1st McDonald’s Tibetan Spaniels. A set of well-matched dogs exhibiting the essential criteria specific to the breed for type and soundness. Presented in excellent condition with synchronized handling, especially on the move.

2nd Jackson’s Boston Terriers. All three exhibits in this team are good examples of this breed. Compactly built with relatively short heads, short tails and distinct colour and markings throughout.
