Breed: Gordon Setter

British Gordon Setter Club Special Classes – 12th )October 2025

May I first of all thank the Officers and Committee for asking me to judge the Special Classes which I thoroughly enjoyed. Secondly, to the exhibitors for a fabulous entry and for taking my placings with good grace. I found the overall quality very good and I certainly could have done with an extra set of place cards in each class, which bodes well for the breed.

Junior Dog or Bitch (14 entries, 3 abs) 1st Sandiford’s Hernwood Superstition. Still only a puppy, but what an elegant young lady she is! Feminine head, sweet expression, dark eyes, scissor bite. Level topline which she kept on the move, deep chest, tight feet and she moved out with drive and enthusiasm as she is constructed correctly fore and aft. 2nd Mappin & Newton’s Glenquin Hurricane Bryerdale. Masculine boy, but not overdone. Loved his head, dark eyes, scissor bite, great reach of neck, deep chest and well sprung ribs and well turned stifles without exaggeration. Moved out well. 3rd Poynter, Poynter & Collins-Pitman’s Amscot Angels & Demon’s

Post Graduate Dog or Bitch (9 entries, 1 abs) – 1st Hardy’s Cafotaliena Hello My Love. Pretty bitch with pleasing head and expression, scissor bite and good reach of neck. Deep chest. She was in good coat and was well constructed and balanced. She moved well in unison with her young handler. 2nd Ellington’s Beechlake the Storyteller of Finnsfolk Close decision between this dog and 1. Mascline, handsome head, scissor bite, dark eyes, deep chest and well sprung ribs. Tight feet, well turned stifles and short hocks. Balanced and moved out well. 3rd Michalak’s Forester’s Northern Hunter of Darkmoor With Gadieburn JW (Imp Deu)

Open Dog or Bitch (13 entries, 4 abs) – 1st Newton, Cornum & Tinnerman’s Am/Int Ch/Sh Ch Carnousrie Let The Game Begin Ai (Imp Aus) Close decision between 1 & 2 and I was splitting hairs. Masculine head, scissor bite, good reach of neck, deep chest, well sprung ribs, tight feet, well turned stifles. Correctly constructed fore and aft which showed in his movement. Powered round the ring with drive and enthusiasm, in full coat which completed the picture. 2nd Collins-Pitman & Cox’s Sh Ch Amscot Air Apparent. Another cracking dog! I loved his head and expression, low set ears, tight feet, good lay back of shoulders and reach of neck, deep chest. Balanced and well constructed he retained a level topline on the move.

3rd O’Kelly & Hancock’s Caradilis Sparks Will Fly JW
