Papillon (Butterfly Dog) Club Of Scotland
Thank you to the committee for inviting me to judge the breed and the exhibitors for a wonderful entry.
On the whole I found a few issues that I think need monitoring since the last time I judged the breed. Poor fronts seem to be creeping in with upright shoulders in particular being evident. The other aspect to watch is the tail set. A number of tight flat tails were on display today which does spoil the outline.
Temperaments were on the whole very good, however, unfortunately a few today didn’t quite give their best and whilst had qualities I look for, had to pay the price with lower placings as didn’t quite show to their best.
Baby Puppy dog (2, 0 Abs)
1. Olaf’s Tarnock Bruce Almighty TAF
As expected 2 puppies at very different stages of maturity. This R/W is very raw just now but at this stage I preferred his balance and shape to 2. Points he scores well on at this stage are his head, neck body and outline. A lot of positives at this stage for his age.
2. Taylor’s Pamhurst Neeps and Tatties
Tri boy at a much more mature stage than 1. Little bit flighty today on the move, slightly stronger in head just now but may mature well. Overall, maybe a bit on the heavier side not helped by carrying a bit too much puppy fat just now.
Baby Puppy Bitch(1, 0 Abs)
1. Lee-Slater’s Graycaz Looby Loo
Tri baby girl, again very raw just now. Enough at this stage in terms of shape and outline, body and topline. Will need a bit of time to grow into herself but one with potential at this early stage.
Veteran Dog (7, 3 Abs)
1. Thornton’s Ch Milbu Ciciobello at Shevid JW (IMP LVA)
Classic dog who despite his veteran status is still looking and showing great. This dog has many of the qualities you look for in terms of his structure, outline and his movement was spot on. Quality boy from head to toe, at one with his handler today. BVIS
2. Griffith’s Manawyddan Victor Hugo
B/W lad who appeals in shape, construction and topline. Not quite the head of my winner today but nonetheless a lot to like about him.
3. Foynes’s Lafay Petite Etoile JW
Minor Puppy Dog (4, 0 Abs)
1. Headley’s Yeldaehs Mr Tumble
Tri boy. Really liked his head and expression. Good balance to him at this stage, bit flighty on the move but managed to pull himself together enough to get the class win. He is fine boned, dainty but enough substance about him. With maturity should do well and his tail will fall more naturally over his back filling the picture and outline. Will need to gain a bit more confidence though in the ring to push on as he matures.
2. Mowatt’s Iotastar Sprit Of The North
R/W who has a good balance to him just now and cracking topline. Preferred the head of 1 at this stage, but his shape and movement will appeal.
3. Headley’s Yeldaehs Mr Fezzywig
Puppy Dog (7, 2 Abs)
1. Fenn Webber’s Tarnock Pocket Scotch
BW boy who caught my eye – liked his head, flow into neck and topline. Found him to be of good body, fine boned and the daintiness needed. Moved well, pulling himself together and showing off his outline and balance. Pleasing boy overall, lots to like at this early stage and one who could mature well. BPIS
2. Mann’s Braunswoood Mask Of Zorro By Melangel
R/S/W who actually is quite similar in shape to the winner. I liked his outline, head and overall balance. Another how moved steady showing off his neck and topline.
3. Curry’s Wilachans Greatest Showman For Davankirk
Junior Dog (8, 0 Abs)
1. Lee-Slater’s Graycaz Where I Go Hugo’s
R/S/W dog of the type I like. Again, really good balance to him and liked his shape. Good head, of the correct proportions, eye and expression. Today he was a bit unsettled standing but on the move showed as expected and came into his own. Good front, fine boned, could do with more body which should come with maturity. Whilst still a youngster, I can see this dog doing well although will need a bit more confidence in the ring to push on.
2. Proctor’s Springcroft Mardi Gras
Ran 1 close but overall I just preferred the head of my winner. He is of a good size and balance, in very good condition, neck flows well into topline. One who moved well and will catch the eye.
3. Keomandi Fly Away To Lafford
Yearling Dog (3, 1 Abs)
1. Olaf’s CH Tarnock Wiggle Giggle JW
B/W boy who was a bit unsettled in this class to start with but pulled himself together and showed his heart out in the challenge. I really admired his head and expression. Lovely ears, fringing and well set. He is so good to go over in conformation and on the move is a joy to watch, really catching the eye. Young dog but of top quality and one that is easy to admire as so elegant in outline and shape. Had him down as the dog to beat today but my CC winner just edged him out today to settled for RCC and RBIS
2. Leslie’s Iotastar Stand And Deliver At Moshu
Top quality R/S/W boy who I really liked and was very close to the top awards, for me the 3rd best dog today and can easily push for the top awards. Again a young boy with a bit of maturing to do but one I can see pushing for top awards in the future given his overall quality. Lots to admire in head, neck and overall construction. Moved with style and catches the eye with his shape, balance and outline. Just came up today against another young dog on top form but one I could’ve easily given a top award too.
Maiden Dog (1, 0 Abs)
1. Kerrison’s Lastayla Caramel Shortcake
R/S/W and whilst stood alone in the class was a worthy winner. He moved well, decent balance to him, liked his head, neck and topline. Liked his type, needs a bit more body but that will come. Decent quality dog.
Novice Dog (3, 0 Abs)
1. Curry’s Wilachans Greatest Showman For Davankirk
3rd in puppy dog. Tri boy who I would like just a little bit more leg to make him better balanced, but liked his neck and topline and is a smart little puppy. He moved better in this class compared to in his earlier class. Liked his head and eye, pretty expression.
2. Kerrison’s Kezkez Signore Nico Rosberg
Similar in size and outline to winner. Liked his head, could do with a bit more neck. Moved OK
3. McPherson’s Northlyte Spot The Wanderer
Post Graduate Dog (8, 1 Abs)
1. Taylor’s Pamhurst Picasso
This dog at times didn’t want to show today at times and almost lost out on his 1st placing, however, just done enough at the right times to win the class. Liked his topline and on the move is where he shone although at times was unsettled. Has qualities you look for in terms of head, body and shape. Fine boned. Will need to improve on his showing to push on
2. Kerrison’s Lastayla Caramel Shortcake
3. Thomson’s Elendil Sam Miguel
Limit Dog (14, 1 Abs)
1. Turner’s Feyetas Love Me Tender
R/S/W boy and turned out to be my star of the day. Real eyecatcher, lovely balance and shape to him. Yes, I would prefer a slightly finer head, but in terms of how he’s put together there was lots to admire about this dog and he has qualities I look for. What a mover he was, so sound, cracking topline, lovely reach of neck to him. Fine boned and dainty, good in body and rib. More I watched him, the more I liked him and kept coming back to him. In top condition and showed his heart out to take a well earned CC and BIS.
2. Anderson’s Elmaraine Outlander Over Northlyte
Tri boy who pushed 1 close. Lots to admire about him and another one who showed his heart out for his handler. Liked his head proportions, good ear shape, size and carriage. Again, well put together, fine boned, enough body and moved well. Quality boy.
3. Keown’s Keomandi Fly Me To The Moon ( JW)
Open Dog (7, 0 Abs)
1. Lee- Slater’s Graycaz Etienne
Stood out in terms of outline and shape, real flashy show dog about him who was put down in top condition. Liked his head, neck and topline, found him of good body, fine boned and well put together. Still a young dog and can see his qualities and another who will catch the eye and do well in the show ring.
2. Anderson’s Northlyte Ring Of Brodgar
R/S/W who I liked. Not as settled on the move as the class winner, but what he does have is a good balance and outline to him. Liked his head, neck and topline. Fine boned, good in body and another shown in top condition.
3. Austin & Thomson’s Skyvana Catch Me At Jhanakia
Veteran Bitch (3, 0 Abs)
1. Breen’s Zoloto Skyla At Kylecroft
Tri girl who was on top form and condition for a 10 year old. Liked her shape and outline and one who can move. Good head and expression.
2. Olaf’s Tarnock Devore
Another 10 year old in such good condition. Actually similar in make to winner, just preferred head and neck of winner. Balanced girl and moved well
3. Foyne’s Lafay Has The Last Word With Amicae
Minor Puppy Bitch (2, 0 Abs )
1. Anderson’s Northlyte Phoenix Rising
Very raw tri baby. I liked her balance at this age, fine boned. Good body. Difficult to assess movement today at times as very playful but when settled seen enough to see how she moved. Will need some show training if to compete as she matures.
2. Keown’s Yeldaehs Madam Butterfly At Keomandi
R/W baby, again like 1 very raw just now. Size wise I liked, lovely neck and topline. Fine boned and pretty in head.
Puppy Bitch ( 1, 0 Abs)
1. Headley’s Yeldaehs Miss Havisham
Promising tri puppy, good shape and outline when standing. Very pleasing in head, dark, eye and expression. Correctly set, large ears. Good flow to her with sound topline. Movement will need to tighten up as she matures and needs more in body but one who could mature well. BPB
Junior Bitch (5, 1 Abs)
1. Lee-Slater’s Graycaz Dutch Courage
Good overall balance, size and shape who and holds her outline both standing and on move. Pretty in head, eye and ear. Whilst out of coat today, nothing to hide with a good deep chest and well sprung rib. Liked her front and fine boned. Needs to settle a bit on the move and was at times not given her best but quality girl
2. Olaf’s Tarnock Rosaline
Tri girl and another with qualities to like. Good neck, shoulders and topline. Another with a good body at this stage. Finely boned, dainty and good chest. Unlike winner, her coat and furnishings are developing well. Moved soundly.
3. Keown’s Keomandi Monnlight Serenade
Yearling Bitch ( 1, 0 Abs)
1. Walsh’s Keomandi Lady Of The Lake At Paradise
Pretty R/W girl, good balance and outline. Good head with dark eyes. Decent neck, leading into well placed shoulders. Cracking topline and moved well in rear but for me could tighten up in front.
Novice Bitch ( 1, 0 Abs)
1. Headley’s Yealdaehs Miss Elizabeth
This young girl didn’t want to show today which is a pity. She had some good points such as her head, ears and expression. One who will need time to settle being in the show ring but worth persevering with as has qualities that will appeal
Post Graduate Bitch (4, 1 Abs )
1. Lees’s Lafford Ninja
Very nice balance to this girl. Whilst solid in head, I found it well balanced, good ear and expression. She excels in balance and outline and was very sound. In very good condition, fine boned and just the right amount of body. A real show girl who catches the eye and says look at me.
2. Simm’s Summerjades Snow Queen With Ezhar
Similar to 1 in some ways with regards shape and outline. Movement wise I would prefer a better front, liked her topline, head and neck.
3. Griffith’s Manawyddan Springtime
Limit Bitch (9, 0 Abs)
1. Mowatt’s Iotastars Pride And Joy
B/W and a pleasing type for me. Good head, eye and expression. Not the most enthusiastic show girl at times but on the move she came into her own. Enough neck, good body with level top line. Decent quality girl.
2. Taylor’s Pamhurst Pretty Petal
Tri colour with a good head, eye and expression. Nice ears shape, placement and fringing. In good coat and condition and pleasing to go over. She moved freely. Preferred the head of winner
3. Keown’s Keomandi Fairy Bubbles
Open Bitch (5, 2 Abs )
1. Ryan, Roosens & Goessens’s Multi Ch Visible Secret Daydream Believers (IMP BEL)
R/S/W girl who impressed me on first glance and got better as I went over her. Stunning head, eye and expression. Reminded me of one of our first Champions in the breed in terms of her head and look. Another whose lovely outline was there to see and she simply glided around the ring, at one with her handler, showing off her balance, topline and sound movement. I found her to be fine and dainty throughout, well balanced and a typical dainty butterfly. Whilst perhaps missing a bit of coat today, she was presented in first class condition. Another whose qualities were there to be admired and I was delighted to award her the CC. A certain UK Ch in the making
2. Morell’s Ch Athene Vom Schwabenhof For Temelora ( IMP DEU)
Phalene who really impressed and rewarded her a RCC, the same as last time I judged the breed. Again in top condition, her head is impressive with correct drop ear set. Movement wise she flowed across the ring and real balance and shape to her. Fine bone, good front, neck of enough length and decent in body. A real quality bitch and worthy Ch.
3. Taylor’s Pamhurst Ae Fond Kiss
Special Phalene Bitch ( 3, 2 abs)
1. Morell’s CH Athene Vom Schwabenhof For Temelora ( IMP DEU)
