‘The basis of breed shows is the judging of pedigree dogs against the breed standard

and judges and breeders are requested to refer to the Breed Watch information related to this breed for details of any current issues i.e:

    • Excessively short muzzle

    • Incorrect hind conformation and/or poor rear movement

    • Eyelids not in normal contact with the eyeball, they are turned inwards or outwards.’

Although we all profess to know the breed standard, sometimes it’s good to have a little reminder before breeding or entering the ring to judge. My two main concerns in relation to the breed standard are as follows:

’Calm gaze should indicate good humour with eyes of medium size, almond-shaped’ – I was quite shocked at the amount of large, round bulging eyes we have at the moment. This needs addressing as it really spoils the expression and is incorrect.

‘Legs straight, muscular, with plenty of bone and substance. Pasterns sloping slightly forward. Feet strong, round and compact with toes well arched.’ - too many dogs were lacking in bone, ten to two and weak on pasterns along with flat feet which can be down to breeding but also exercise and/or poor diet.

However, on the whole temperaments were good and I found a lot of virtues. Huge thanks to the exhibitors who braved the heat, allowed me the honour of assessing their dogs and received my decisions gracefully. Also to the committee for their kind invitation and gift.

1st Miss C A Moss - Chantavory Wonder Boy

7 month old quality youngster who shows a lot of promise. He scores highly on his super type, rich tan markings and overall proportions. Beautiful head developing well and already showing correct length and ratios muzzle to head. Good strength of muzzle and cheeks filling out nicely. Defined stop, neat fitting ears and dark eyes of good shape and size. Neck of good length leading into well laid shoulders. Stood with forelegs straight, strong pasterns and tight feet. Balanced front and rear angulation with strong short coupling and good width of upper thigh, muscle forming. He moved soundly out and back and showed steady side gait. Pleased to award him BPD and BPIS

2nd Mr B John - Kenbloom Titan Flame

Smart 8 month old puppy with clean outline and correct 9-10 proportions. Lovely disposition and trying hard to get to grips with his handler and what’s required of him. Clear mahogany markings and correct harsh coat. Good strength in head and muzzle with dark eyes, calm expression and ears set high and wide. Good reach and arch of neck into a firming top line. Moderate angles for and aft covering the ground well on the move. A little more training will go a long way.

Another promising young 8 month old puppy with a serene gaze which definitely indicates good humour. Dry head of good proportions developing well. Eyes of medium size, almond-shaped and dark brown in colour. Good mouth pigment and correct dentition. Slightly arched neck of correct length flowing into clean withers and level top line. Front

and hind angulation moderate. Excellent tail set and carried correctly. A very well balanced puppy. Moved accurately going and coming for a youngster with typical side action. One to watch.

1st Ms M H Ward - Hanbar Idris At Warrimead

Very balanced 20 month old male of lovely type. Clean outline, rich tan markings and desired black pencil markings on toes. Quality head with correct depth of muzzle and ratio of length of muzzle to distance from his well-defined stop to occiput. Eyes almond in shape and dark brown. Ears of correct size and position. Excellent teeth and mouth pigment. Good neck length leading into well placed shoulders and straight back. Moderate front and rear angulation and chest and brisket developing. Moved steady and true coming and going.

2nd Mr G & Mrs C Anthony - Teigan Kasper

23 month old male with sharp outline and good body proportions. Dry head developing nicely with good depth of muzzle, defined stop and ears small and well placed to give width to top skull. Eyes and mouth pigment dark. Neck of fair length and strong level topline. Body maturing with ribs starting to spring and brisket deepening. Moved in harmony with handler and shown in good condition.

1st Ms Y Wilkinson - Rottkinson Dark Knight

Very alert and active 22 month old male displaying strength and endurance. Lovely masculine head with strong muzzle and large black nose. Correct stop, good fill under dark almond eyes and cheeks well developed. Ears medium in length lying flat and close to his cheeks. Good depth of brisket and spring of ribs. Muscular neck, firm, level back and short deep loin. Correct croup, tail set and carriage. Moderate angulation. Standing on tight well knuckled feet and moving with drive and purpose.

2nd Ms G Courtney-Baughan - Jhava Black Magic Over Whisperdown

2 year old male correctly proportioned and compact with rich tan and clearly defined markings. Lovely, typy head with small well placed ears, medium dark eyes of good size and shape, well defined stop and good width and depth of muzzle. Cheeks developing nicely. Alert expression with calm gaze. Strong neck of good length and straight topline. Chest well let down between forelegs and elbows tight. Balanced, moderate angulation front and rear. Moved true for and aft

LD (4). This was a very nice class; varied but all had their own qualities.

1st Mr R & Mrs M Austen - Ausrie Jabba The Hut

Very impressive 23 month old male with stunning side profile and excellent breed type. He exudes power, strength and boldness without coarseness. Masculine head completely balanced. High set ears lying close to face; points level with his beautiful dark well shaped eyes. Good fill to cheeks and pronounced stop. Flat top skull with slight wrinkle when alert. Neck muscular of correct length and slightly arched flowing into laid back shoulders and strong back. Good depth of chest. Forelegs straight, strong pasterns, tight feet and good bone. Stifles fairly well bent. Hocks well angulated without exaggeration. Moved accurately going and coming with good ground coverage. Definitely one for the future.

2nd Miss C A Moss - Chantavory One And Only

Another upstanding male. This 3 year old demonstrates the characteristic self-assuredness and courage of the Rottweiler while being good natured and biddable. Very pleasing head with excellent proportions and type. Skull is broad between small, correctly placed ears with a well-defined stop. Cheeks are developed and muscled. Good fill under dark alert eyes and strong muzzle. Good reach of neck leading into a firm level topline. Moderate and balanced front and rear angulation, roomy chest with well sprung ribs. Still some maturing to do before we see his true potential. Extensive, enthusiastic mover.

OD (5, 1a) Again, another super class of dogs, huge variation in type, but all worthy of a title.

1st Mr L & Mr LL Cartwright - Steigen RuPaul Charles

What can I say! You really have to go over this dog to fully appreciate his outstanding qualities. Extremely balanced male with no exaggerations. He certainly scores highly in the first 3 categories of the breed standard: ‘general appearance’, ‘characteristics’ and ‘temperament’ with emphasis on ‘self-assured, compact and powerful form, permitting great strength, manoeuvrability and endurance.’ Even with the high temperatures on the day, which let a lot of the dogs down unfortunately, he never faulted and gave 100%, moving around the ring with ‘supple strength, endurance and purpose’. A joy to watch. Dry, noble head with correct ratios of muzzle to distance between his well-defined stop and occiput. Forehead moderately arched as seen from side. Small ears, dark, almond shaped eyes, dark mouth pigment and correct dentition. Excellent front with forelegs straight, bone proportionate to body and feet compact with toes well arched. Pasterns strong with required slight slop. Shoulder blades well laid back into the withers, forming a good angle with the upper arm, giving the correct forechest and forward reach. Elbows held close against the body. Chest of good width, brisket of good depth and ribs well sprung. Rear angulation is perfectly balanced with the front having correct bend of stifle and good angulation on the hock. This combined with excellent width and muscle of upper thigh and top part of lower thigh enabled his powerful hind thrust and extensive stride length. His strong neck flows into his level top line and correct tail set and carriage to complete the picture. On this day, he more than deserved his CC and BIS award.

2nd Mr N & Mrs J Greener - Rhodilea Celtic Warrior

Yet another super dog with loads to like and lots more to come. At 3 year old he is just starting to fully mature. Lovely breed type, rich, clear markings and handsome head with correct length, width and ratios of muzzle to head; 2-3. Good strength of muzzle and cheeks nicely developed. Defined stop, small, neat fitting ears and dark eyes of good shape and size. Calm, alert gaze. Correct bite and dark mouth pigment. Good bone, straight front and excellent feet; tight and well-knuckled. Neck of good length leading into well laid shoulders and firm, strong back. Correct croup, tail set and short loin. Moderate angles, front and rear in good symmetry allowing for free flowing uninterrupted movement. Shown and handled well in good condition. Pushed hard for first position.

Excellent 3 year old male with beautiful profile and flowing lines. Powerful dog, masculine with good size and substance but nothing overdone about him. Attractive head, broad with good width between ears. Topline of skull is almost flat with the fold of his small to medium sized ears extending this line. Muzzle deep and in correct ratio to top skull. Moderate arch of forehead when viewed from the side. Darkest of eyes. Strong rounded neck of correct length flowing into well placed shoulders and level back retained on the move. Correct croup, tail set and carriage. Loins deep with no tuck up on flanks. Brisket around 50% of shoulder height, and elbows tight. Hindquarters are well angled and muscled providing powerful drive. Ground covering effortless movement. RDCC and RBIS

2nd Miss G Morkute - IR CH Grand Is Rojaus Slenio

Always admired this 5 year old male for his hard-working, loyal attitude. He typifies what stalwart means in a Rottweiler. He is reliable and his energy is bountiful with an ultimate goal to please his handler. Clean outline with head of correct ratio in side profile with pronounced stop and deep, broad muzzle. Dark eyes and very alert expression. Ears set correctly to add width to top skull, cheeks well boned. Good length of neck leading into sloping shoulders and firm topline. Loins wide and deep. Balanced front and rear angulation. Straight forelegs with good bone and tight feet with lovely arched toes and short nails. Moved out enthusiastically with good ground coverage.

Very impressed by this 8 year old lady who didn’t look or move like a veteran. Shown in super condition with correct proportions. Excellent breed type and qualities throughout starting with feminine head of good strength. Dark eye, broad skull and muzzle. Correct ratios nose to head and calm expression. Well arched, muscular neck of correct length leading into well laid shoulders and excellent top line which she retains on the gait. Straight forelegs and good front and rear angles enabling free flowing powerful movement with correct tail carriage. BVIS

2nd Mrs L & Mrs R Watts & Gibbard - CH Jezeve Back To Black JW

Another beautiful, well balanced veteran of 9 years; very attentive. Fashioning a lovely bit of tell tail white around her muzzle on her very sweet face. Dark almond eyes and mouth pigment, ears of correct size, folded forward. Good length of neck flowing into clean well laid shoulders and firm back. Excellent croup and tail set. Good depth of brisket, ribs well sprung. Correct turn of stile and hock angulation. Rear has well developed muscular thighs and movement is sound and steady. Excellent for age and still enjoying the show ring. Keep up the good work.

Self-assured 8 month old puppy bitch. Content, calm gaze with clear dark eyes. Ears are set high and of good size forward facing, creating width of top skull. Excellent mouth pigment and dentition. Head ratios of muzzle to distance between her well-defined stop and occiput are correct. Cheeks developing. Already her length to height proportions are good and as she matures and gets more of a covering all over it will look more obvious. Moderate angulation front and rear. Lovely tight feet and short nails. Moved soundly for age and stage.

Lovely young 9 month old puppy with excellent breed type. Head developing nicely with good stop and length of muzzle, which has depth and width. Dark almond eyes and tranquil expression. Ears are relatively small and well placed to increase width of head lying close to cheeks which are already starting to fill out. Correct bite and teeth. Neck of proportionate length flowing into sloping shoulders and level back. Body of correct 9-10 proportions with short loin. Chest well let down between forelegs which are well boned and elbows tight. Toes on feet well arched. Balanced front and rear angles. Movement starting to come together well. BPB

Very feminine 8 month old puppy bitch of lovely type. When she pulls herself together her side profile already shows excellent proportions and symmetry. Pretty head starting to form and catch up with her ears. Dark well shaped eyes, good ratio of muzzle to top skull and excellent mouth pigmentation. Good length of neck and topline. Brisket starting to drop. Good angulation fore and aft. Moved soundly for age. She was settled and looked happy to be showing today.

What a delightful youngster! At just 13 months she is already showing great promise. Very pretty feminine head with accurate proportions, broad between the ears and forehead moderately arched. Muzzle fairly deep with topline level. Eyes dark with good fill below, cheeks developing nicely. Black nose and excellent clear markings from head to toes. Forelegs show good bone, pasterns are strengthening with compact feet, elbows held close to body. Good depth of brisket and ideal body length with short loins. Neck is slightly arched of good length and flows cleanly into well placed shoulders. Back is level. Correct bend of stifle and hocks well angulated. Steady sound movement out and back with extension on side gait. Well presented

15 months old bitch of good overall type with clear markings. Attractive head, strong but feminine with correct proportions. Dark eyes, defined stop and calm gaze. High, wide set ears of medium size and close to head when completely forward. Neck of good length and strength, body short and compact. Moderate angulation fore and aft. Topline level. Held her own on the move.

Beautiful elegant 17 month old bitch of excellent breed type and confirmation. Just the right amount of bone and substance. Correctly balanced head of accurate proportions, broad strong jaw with good mouth and pigment. Well shaped dark eyes, neat medium sized ears correctly set. Standing with front legs straight and wide apart with slightly sloping pasterns and tight feet. Good depth of chest and ribbing. Neck is arched, of good length and leads into well laid shoulders. Height at shoulder to body length is 9:10, straight back and correct croup and tail set. Excellent rear angulation creating steady driving side gait. Bright future ahead.

Very attractive 19 month old female of good size, shape and substance. Beautiful dry head developing well in all areas. Muzzle in correct ratio to top skull, good width between well placed ears and defined stop. Medium sized dark almond eyes with super expression. Correct reach of neck, firm topline and balanced front and hind angulation with excellent width of upper and lower thigh. Good depth of brisket and short couplings. Steady sound movement out and back and correct side gait with good tail carriage. Another one to watch.

Well put together 2 year old bitch with strong bone and substance to match yet not over done in any way. Lovely depth and width of chest. Strong but feminine head which is well balanced. She scores well in eye for shape, set and colour and has neat ears which sit well to frame her head and add width. Well developed cheeks, good fill under eyes and depth of muzzle. Correct teeth and bite. Neck of fair length and back firm and level. Moderate angulation fore and aft. She moved out well with an effortless ground covering gait and was presented in good hard condition.

Difficult decision between 1 and 2.

Very appealing and feminine 3 year old bitch of lovely type. Clear tan markings throughout. Pleasing head with dark almond eyes and sweet expression. Ears folding forward close to head. Cheeks well boned but not prominent. Correct bite and dentition. Good reach of neck that flows into clean withers and level topline with just enough slope of croup to create forward thrust. Depth of body in correct ratio to height. Balanced front and rear angulation and sound movement.

This 2 year old bitch caught my eye as soon as she walked into the ring. She has both strength and beauty static and moving without being over done in any way. Excellent breed type. Very well constructed enabling her to move with effortless ease and good foot fall. Her head epitomises Rottweiler bitch having no exaggerations. Perfect level topline on her strong muzzle, the length of which is in correct ratio with distance from her well-defined stop to occiput. Lovely intelligent gaze through dark almond eyes enough to melt you. Strong well proportioned neck and good front assembly. Her brisket is deep, chest roomy from good spring of rib. She has clean well placed shoulders and a strong level topline and straight underline. Her loin is short and deep, correct croup, tail set and carriage. She has balanced angulation front and rear. Shown in a gleaming black coat which is perfectly marked and of the correct length and texture. Couldn’t denying her BCC today. Just beautiful.

2nd Mrs C A Willis-Impey - Abacab Duchess

Well balanced, impressive 3 year old bitch with nice proportions throughout. She has a strong head piece which gives a super picture from side profile where you can see her moderately arched forehead, well defined stop and the depth and strength in both her skull and her muzzle. She has dark eyes with an alert expression and neat well placed ears of medium size. Her neck is strong with a lovely arch leading into a firm topline which she retains on the move. She is well off for bone and rear angulation. She moves well with an enthusiastic gait and loads of drive. Handled well.

1st Mr A & Miss W Baillie & Topping - Stairvale Grace Von Rottsworth

This 3 year old bitch has now matured and is in her prime. She has a beautiful head and demonstrates that a bitch can be strong and powerful but remain feminine and graceful too. To go through the individual points on her head is to quote the breed standard. I especially love her expression and desire to please her handler ‘biddable.’ She has good bone and a solid frame with clean flowing lines. Her neck is strong with excellent reach and leads into sloping shoulders and firm level back. Her chest is roomy broad and deep with good spring of ribs. Her hind quarters have broad thighs which are well muscled and correctly angulated allowing good rear drive. Movement is strong and ground covering. Handled well in tip top condition.

2nd Mr G Sweet - Europe Teran At Bossrot Rottweilers (IMP UKR)

Not sure where this beautiful 4 year old bitch has been hiding. I love her striking side profile which is ultra clean and so well balanced. Her head is strong but feminine, correctly proportioned with dark eyes and mouth pigment, deep muzzle and pronounced stop. Plenty of fill beneath the eyes and well muscled cheeks. Excellent reach and width of neck which is proportionate to body leading into well laid shoulders and sharp level topline. Correct croup and tail set with balanced angles fore and aft. Steady on the move. Will watch her with interest

This 2 year old bitch has excellent overall proportions and the most stunning side profile which she just walks into naturally. Added to this she has a beautiful head which has balance, correct ratios and strength but is still very feminine. Her small well placed ears are high set and create extra width to her top skull. She has lovely well shaped dark eyes with fill under them and well muscled cheeks. Her mouth pigment is also dark accentuating the richness of her tan markings around her face. Her neck is well rounded and muscular and flows into well laid shoulders, clean withers and a strong level back with short couplings. She has a deep brisket and level underline. Her angulation is equal fore and aft and she gaits with ease. Very well deserved RCC.
