WELKS CHAMPIONSHIP DOG SHOW.

25.04.2025.

BREED: TIBETAN TERRIERS.

JUDGE: MARIANNE ERSKINE-JONES.

(UNOHOO TIBETAN TERRIERS)

What a beautiful April day in the Malvern hills to judge our most favourite breed, and I thank you all for your quality entries. I was so pleased with with the overall standard, particularly the improved quality of TT heads! They were mostly excellent! No more of those small ‘monkey’ eyes and those long pointed muzzles! Today, we had well balanced heads with good craniums, gentle yet defined ’Stops’ and ditto ‘Zygomatic Arches’, large round, well spaced expressive eyes, (although some were a little ‘light’ in colour) partnered with strong, yet balanced blunter muzzles - all with good dentition and allowing for a more - dare I say - ’stubborn’ expression. Temperaments were alltogether excellent.

Co-ordinated with the above, I wanted a typical square TT with a proudly held head carriage on a good neck sloping into well laid shoulders, adequate ribcage, well ribbed back, short loin and higher set tail and with a purposeful (longer)length of leg and second thigh, low hocks and with an altogether good spring and use of pastern. Also, of course, with larger, round (all terrain) flatter yet padded feet. I am so delighted that in many exhibits, I found such examples, most particularly in my DCC winner and also in my BCC winner who, by virtue of their excellent TT conformation, balance, type and movement, were two of the best TT’s that I have ever seen….and felt! Both just fabulous!

On the negative side, be warned, that several exhibits have been ‘overindulged’ and are consequently overweight! Some of whom I even struggled to feel their ribs! One last note regarding ‘Head’ furnishings, quote from KC Breed Standard “falling forward but NOT affecting the dog’s ability to see”. This is a welcomed addition to the ‘Breed Standard’ so please remember to allow your TT’s to ‘see’, rather than this habit of of brushing their head furnishings hard down over their eyes thus completely obstructing their vision.
