Driffield Championship Dog Show

Breed: Irish Wolfhound

Irish Wolfhounds

24th August 2025

Thank you to the committee for inviting me to judge at your show. It was my first time visiting this showground and what a wonderful venue it is. It’s a shame it will be your last time there, but I completely understand the reasoning behind the decision. The committee was very welcoming, and the stewards were kind, attentive, and extremely helpful. The ring was a perfect size for our breed, flat, spacious, and ideal for showcasing the dogs. We were also blessed with gorgeous weather, which made the day even more enjoyable. Lunch was excellent, and the views over the racecourse made for a memorable experience. With several other shows happening that same weekend, I truly appreciate everyone who made the effort to enter.

MPD (1) 1. Harris’s Haziannes Knights Templar At Sullyenda. A very attractive and substantial 7-month-old black male who was clearly enjoying his time in the ring today. He has a lovely temperament and showed plenty of confidence for his age. Pleasing head with a dark eye, well-set ears, and correct bite. Strong neck, though shoulders are a little upright. He has good depth of chest with elbows well under, and strong, muscular thighs. Movement was unsettled today BP

PGD (4,2) 1. Murray’s Dukesarum Casper At Sabata (AI). Approaching three years of age, this workmanlike brindle male presents with a lovely masculine head, strong, long muzzle, correct bite, and a dark eye giving a kind, gentle expression. He has a muscular neck and good depth of chest. His coat is harsh and of good texture. Slightly close behind and would prefer more front and rear angulation and strength in hocks but overall, his movement was free and easy. RBD 2. Kelly’s Bonaforte’s Zippity Do. A large, substantial 3-year-old wheaten with a beautiful head and a kind eye. He is a little upright in shoulder but has good breadth of chest. Carrying a little too much weight today, which detracted slightly from overall balance. I would prefer more angulation and muscle in the thighs. A little unsettled on the move, but what I did see was sound and true.

OD (2,1)1. Sheppard’s Killoughery Mission Two For Inkleyboys Jw. 3-year-old light brindle male with much to admire. He has a lovely head with a kind, dark eye and correct bite. A good length of neck flows into well-placed shoulders, good breadth of chest. He possesses a strong back, with arched loins and a well-drawn-up belly. Not the largest of hounds, but everything is in proportion, making him a very good representation of the breed. His movement was free and active. BD & BOB

SBB (2,2) 1..Waslin’s Glengail Ccaoimhe With Aelfsige. 2.5-year-old tall light brindle bitch who has matured significantly since I last saw her. She has a pleasing head with nicely placed ears, a kind eye, and correct bite. Her long, muscular neck flows into well-laid shoulders, good breadth of chest. She has a long back with a well-drawn-up belly, though I would prefer more muscle in the thighs. Coat is correct, harsh in texture and beautifully presented. Slightly close behind going away but overall, her movement was free and active. BSB & BB 2. Hanlon’s Bribiba Highland Dancer At Achnagonlan. First time in the ring for this attractive 17-month-old black female. Smaller than the first, but well-proportioned throughout. She has a beautiful head with a kind, dark eye and correct bite. Slightly upright in shoulder but shows good breadth of chest. She has a good length of back with a well-drawn-up belly and pleasing rear angulation with strength in the thighs. Her coat is a little soft at this stage. Movement was easy and active, overall, a promising young hound with plenty of potential. RBB
