Lyn McKevitt - Tyketarn

It was a great honor to be asked judge Mastiffs at this show, closing the year with a good entry for the breed, and it was with some trepidation that I accepted the added responsibility of mentoring an up and coming judge to participate inside the ring. I need not have worried as reports after the show demonstrated it was a positive experience for both exhibitors and their dogs, as well as the mentee judge, who was extremely respectful at all times to the exhibitors. Although the procedure of mentoring judges is a positive one allowing people to learn with hands on experience, it has to be remembered that exhibitors pay a lot of money for the time and opinions of a judge, and this should not be hurried or affected in any way. I think collectively we achieved this.

With regards to the dogs there were some lovely specimens and some positive attributes. The high profile concerns are ever present and it was good to see that lots of these are in decline, with some points, such as obesity were not present at all.

I was extremely pleased with the breed type of my main winners. We should always remember, it’s what distinguishes us as a breed.

PD 4 (1) 1 - Andrews’ Apollo Big Du Domaine De Mildred. 7 month substantial puppy with plenty of bone for a youngster, nice head, with plenty of room to develop. Well balanced and moved out well, showing lots of promise at such a young age. Happy to award BP. 2 – Facey’s Wiggenhall Leopold. 6 month substantial fawn with lovely pigment, fabulous temperament showing happy exuberance in the ring, which was really lovely to see in a youngster.

JD 2(1) 1 - Baxter’s Quenzo Sinko Zemplina At Nobleheart (Imp Svk) 14 month. Well off for bone. Nice outline with good length to height ratios. Clean head with good dentition. Still needs to fill and strengthen, but has time on his side. BSB

PGD 2(1) 1 – Graham’s Savarow Adonis At Odextin. Large 14 month fawn. Pleasing head and pigment. Neat small ears and a dark eye, and an overall pleasing expression, Moved well but seemed a little unsettled today to do himself justice.

LD 2(1) 1- Pennie’s Linferts flight Of Fancy (Imp USA) 5 Years, well sized Fawn, square head with neat ears, gentle expression and kind nature. Stacked well by handler but not as happy on the move.

OD 4(0) 1- Zadeh’s Ch Suncamo Kayden With Faynad. Typey substantial fawn with lovely pigment, eye catching, both static and on the move. Excellent headpiece with just enough wrinkling when alert. Well set, small ears and correct eye, accented by a good stop and muzzle. Strong front and a good view from all angles although would prefer a little more length to back. Strong on move with a level topline throughout. Took his first place in a very strong class and deserved the DCC, a close run competition for the BOB today. 2 – Burgoine & Nicholas’ Ch Hallberd Finbar, Brindle of 4+ years, with good bone, and width all through, clean head with correct ear set and a dark eye giving a pleasing expression. Stood four square on tight feet and moved well, although lacked the enthusiasm to show himself off to his full potential. RDCC

GCD 1(0) 1 - Graham’s Cwmtysswg Titan At Odextin. Apricot of 7 years with good bone and pigment, nice expression to face with sound movement and a topline that was held throughout.

VD/B 1 -Bowdery’s Ch Morganlefay’s Iron Maiden, Brindle bitch of 7 years. Feminine neat head with a gentle expression, good bone and correct length of back, stood square on nice tight feet. Strode around the ring with ease and definitely did not look her age. Really pleased to award her a well deserved BV.

PB 1 (0) 1 - Baxter’s Askuwheteau Frida For Nobleheart. 10 month fawn with good pigment, nice head. Very enthusiastic on the move, making her handler work hard, would benefit from more ringcraft as she progresses.

JB 2 (0) 1 – Andrew’s Cyberus Luella La La. substantial 17 month fawn with plenty of type and excellent bone. Nice head, but eyes a little loose at present, kept her topline both static and on the move. 2 – Rowley’s Savarow Athena. 14 month brindle of lighter type. Clean head, good expression, longer in leg and without the substance of the first place, but lovely balanced movement.

PGB 2(0) 1 – Beaumont & Hesketh’s Karysmhor Remembrance. 4 year fawn with good pigment. Neatly put together with no excess and excellent movement. 2 – Miller’s Hallberd Iris. 22 months brindle, who was very anxious about her surroundings today, but did well despite this. Neat head with no excess, good bone moved well, especially given her nervousness

LB 3 (0) 1 – Hill’s Miss Fragilis from The Celtic Mountain (Imp De) 3 year brindle, well put together with a good length of back and angles throughout, standing square on good feet, well balanced with sound movement. Gave a nice typey view. RBCC. 2 – Hollifield & Pointer’s Cyberus Setting The Scene For Richearon. 17 months fawn. Compact bitch with good bone and substance, nice ear set, gentle expression, but preferred the head ratios and overall outline of 1. Moved well especially considering she was a little anxious today.

OB 4 (1 withdrawn by exhibitor) 1 – Andrews Ch Sculpted By Nature At Ellyjayart. 2 years of lovely type who provided excellent views from all sides. Plenty of substance and bone with a nice typey but feminine head and gentle expression. Excellent body to height ratios, correct tail set and length Plenty of exuberance for the handler, but moved well once settled and covered the ground with ease. Pleased to award her the BCC and her overall appearance won her the added bonus of BOB today. 2 Barrett’s Phoebe of Seven Oaks At Veldenton (Imp Ger) 21 month fawn lighter in type than 1 but still lots to like with lovely balanced movement.
