Bath Canine Society
If Heineken did Dog Shows then Bath would be the showground where it would be held. My thanks to the Secretary and the whole Bath Committee for such a well-run show. Judging at Bath was my dream, watching the breed I love moving on beautiful grass was a pleasure. Even though I was the stand in judge, I very much enjoyed the day. A big thank you to Claire Prangle who single handedly stewarded my ring with great efficiency making my day easier.
Sporting, affectionate, absolutely fearless, gay, friendly are the characteristics and temperament our Breed Standard asks for, so I was very happy for them to move or just be, for me there is nothing worse than judging a cavalier robot. It was a windy day and this made the tents noisy which upset some of the dogs which I took into consideration but still I worry if we have a temperament problem creeping in.
I wrote much the same last time as the custodians of this beautiful breed of dog, two things in particular concern me which should be borne in mind. Cavaliers should have a gentle expression with large, dark, round eyes, whatever the colour of the dog; we are in danger of losing these characteristics. Our breed standard also asks for good spring of rib which should not be ignored.
All my class winners met my interpretation of the Breed Standard, had the desired temperament that I love which is so integral to the breed and correct scissor bite. My thanks to the exhibitors for bringing their dogs and accepting my decisions sportingly.

I have judged this dog in his younger days, he has matured, his head has improved with age his eyes even better, larger round limpid eyes making that beautiful breed standard soft expression, I just love his overall balance, he moved around the ring so exquisitely. He stood alone today but let that take nothing away from him. Winning his class and I was pleased to award him without any hesitation the Challenge Certificate today.
