West Pennine Pug Dog Club
West Pennine Pug Dog Club Championship show.
29th March 2025
Judge: Lizzie Morley (LizLanMor)
I'd like to send heartfelt thanks to the officers and committee for allowing me the honour of judging the Pug Males at their Championship show and extended thanks to the exhibitors for their entries. This being my first appointment in the breed at this level, I was very much looking forward to it having judged the breed since I was 16 years old. It's always been a breed that I've followed. I had arranged for extra prizes/specials for my winners which I hope were well appreciated…. I always like to give back when I can.
I was pleased with my overall entry and had plenty of quality to choose from. I saw no problems with breathing, narrow nostrils or any other watched aspects within the breed.
Minor Puppy Dog.
1st Dawson- Paynes - Judamie Sol Invictus.
6 months fawn, really liked this young boy! He has everything there to build on as he matures. He makes a great shape with a clean and sharp outline, he has good pigment and lovely workings in his well proportioned head with well set and neat ears, good muzzle and padding coming on well. His shoulders are well laid and he has a level topline and a good rib, short coupled and with a good turn of stifle. Short, fine coat and black nails, well set tail with a good curl. Attentive and moved well, he is sound all ways. Liked him very much and I was happy to award him Best Puppy Dog.
2nd Arnold-stronge - Weaverham Toodarn Hot from Snugglepug.
Young black boy with lots to like, fabulous black coat, fine and single with blue skin, his shape is good with a good forechest and tail set, lovely dark eyes and neat ears but just needs to fill out in head and under eye. One to watch.
3rd Mitchell Myter Rumour Has it Cedilla
Puppy Dog.
1st Dawson-Paynes - Judamie Amun Ra
Brother to the minor puppy winner and very typey, good substance and a lovely head with dark eyes, good pigment and width of muzzle, good neck and shoulder, level topline and good quarters with a high set tail, needs to firm up in front as to be expected, but another quality boy. Short fine coat and attentive. Moved well.
2nd Baileys - Felice Vincenza
Fawn boy, bigger than I prefer but he was well balanced with good bone and a gorgeous coat, nice ribs and firm quarters. Moves soundly but needs to firm in topline which will hopefully come with maturity.
Sp Puppy Black Dog.

Sp Puppy Fawn Dog.
1st Pritchards - Empugrium Rudimental.
A fawn boy that i've noticed ringside for his great shape. Lovely boy of good size and outline, well made with a level topline and good high set tail, excellent coat and texture. Good pigment throughout. Well balanced. His head is at the inbetween stage and will hopefully fill out with maturity. Showed and moved well.
Junior Dog.
1st O’Leary and Rutherfords - Haselorhill First Edition From Mopszawawa
Fawn boy and another that I've admired ringside. Great shape on this boy and he’s short and cobby, with excellent bone and good forechest. Masculine head with lustrous, round, dark eyes and good pigment, neat ears and good width of muzzle, good ribs and topline with well laid shoulders, good rear angles and a high set on tail. Moves well and has a slight roll. Will have a bright future I'm sure.
2nd Ellis’ Eastonite Nigel is Naughty
Fawn male, bigger than I prefer but balanced all the same, he has a masculine head with round dark eyes and attractive workings. Good lay of shoulder and a level topline, he has a good spring of rib, nicely angulated and moved well.
3rd Hall’s Conquell Morning Sun
Yearling Dog
This was a lovely class and splitting my 1st and 2nd place was probably my hardest decision on the day. Both dogs I've admired on several occasions from ringside and I'll be honest that my heart sank a little when they both entered the same class, both of fabulous quality and breed type. They BOTH deserved to be in my final line up! I firmly believe both will be future Champions.
1st Cairns - Anzhela Scent Francis JW.
Just my size and type! Small, well made and cobby with excellent bone for his size, short coupled and a good spring of rib coming from a level topline which he kept standing and moving. His head is masculine but not too much and he retains a melting expression with his lustrous dark, round eyes. He has neat ears and good pigment throughout. Black toe nails, a good lay of shoulder and a matching rear, very well balanced. His coat is almost sprayed on and fits him so well, smart and clean in outline he moves out soundly and true and pays attention to his handler and gives his best. Pushed hard for the RCC. I'll look forward to seeing how he matures. A pleasure to judge.
2nd Turnbull’s - Nicobri’s Lord of the Ring JW.
One of the best heads of the day! Glamorous fawn boy, again with an excellent coat and who makes a good clean outline. His head is text book with detailed workings and good pigment, good neck, fore chest and lay back of shoulder. He's made so well which meant he moved so well and typical. He gave me a smile with his cheeky ways! He has a level topline and good firm quarters with a high set tail, liked his sure and sound movement and he held a good shape. After going back and forth between these two lovely boys, I just felt 1 was just a tad shorter. This takes nothing away from this young dog that has had a fabulous start to his show career and I have no doubt that he will carry his title before long.
3rd Walker’s Afterglow wild west Hero at Sunlea.
Novice Dog
1st Cannon’s and Burrough’s - Flashnik Sweet Talkin’ Guy.
Fawn of a nice size and shape with a clean outline and high tail set. Liked him a lot. Good workings on his soft expressive head with good pigment, dark eyes and neat ears. Excellent sprayed on fine coat of attractive shade. Moved out well sound all ways.
Post graduate dog.
1st Byrne’s - Milucksin Million Bucks
2 year old fawn boy, makes a nice shape, with a lovely masculine head with fabulous workings, neat ears and excellent pigment, good eide muzzle and good fill under eyes. Soft, fine coat and high set tail, moves out well.
2nd Long’s - Conquell Cabinet of Clowns
More my type size wise, with a nice head and shape, I simply would like more forechest and a better lay of shoulder. Showed well.
Limit Dog
1st Collier’s - Pugistie Meant to Bee JW.
Fawn with a fabulous outline and commands attention with his short smart outline and firm level topline. He was my best puppy dog last time and he has matured into a fine young dog with a clean masculine face and attractive workings, good pigment and lovely dark eyes. His shoulders are well laid back and has plenty of fore chest, well ribbed back and short coupled with a well muscle rear. Striding out smartly, a very nice dog who should gain his crown. Expertly handled and shown to perfection. A pleasure to judge.
2nd Mitchells - Cedilla Medjool
Fawn of excellent size and shape. Nice head and pigment. Firm in body with good angles and a balanced outline. Moved well.
3rd Linnett’s Conquell Calm to Chaos
Open Dog.
1st Dawson-Payne and Mousley’s - Ch. Judamie Elton’s Sun JW.
My star of the day! A dog that I've admired from ringside and I was excited to get my hands on him. Masculine and clean cut, this boy has matured so well since I last judged him as a puppy. It's all there, everything a Pug should be! I particularly liked his outline and shape, his neck is well crested and he holds his head proudly when stood and on the move. His head to me is absolutely textbook and his crowning glory! He has round dark eyes which are set well, a wide muzzle with good fill and neat button ears which are well pigmented. His workings are attractive and not too much giving him a soft and gentle expression, which made me keep going back to him for another look. His front assembly is firm and tight with a good straight front and neat feet with black nails, an excellent fore chest and good ribs with short couplings into a well angulated rear which was also firm and well muscled. He holds his topline level and firm on the move and stood and strides out with style and the slight Pug roll. Finished in a correct short, fine coat of pale fawn. He was handled to perfection and really on form today so his expert handler got the best out of him at all times. It's clear to me that this clever breeder has bred a star and at just two years old, he still has so much time to reach the heights that he deserves. I can firmly say that I wouldn't change anything about him, he impressed me at all times when in my ring and I believe that this male would be very hard for any judge to overlook. He is clearly following in the footsteps of his famous Father, another dog which I greatly admired. I always love to see a bond between a handler and the exhibit and this was evident from the moment they stepped into my ring. I had no hesitation in awarding him the Dog CC today and with the referees nod, he won a well deserved BIS too! He's everything I'd want in a Pug and I will follow his future career with interest.
2nd Pike, Hill and Mallinson’s - Ch. Eivisah Sonnentanz JW
Another exhibit that I was really pleased to see enter the ring as he'd caught my eye previously. He's fawn, cobby and well made throughout. He has a gorgeous masculine headpiece with beautiful eyes, another that would make you want to go back and look again. Correct head working with excellent pigment and neat ears. He is short and compact with a super rib and bone. A very keen showman who clearly wants to please at all times. He also has a fabulous rapport with his clever handler which is always a joy to see. Moving well and soundly at all times whilst holding a firm level topline. I just had to bring him in to challenge the open fawn winner and the yearling winner for the reserve CC and this boy, being so on form, deserved his RCC and RBIS win. A quality exhibit and a very worthy Champion.
3rd Rutherfords Ch. Potbelli Limited Edition JW. Great sized boy with lots to like. So well handled. Well deserved Champion.
Open black dog.
1st Arnold- Stronge - Snugglepug In his Stride.
A dog I've judged before and he never disappoints. Smart black boy of excellent size, he cuts a clean outline and his short fine coat is so correct. Lovely correct headpiece. Short, cobby and compact in frame and his front is straight. He has a good rib and neck and plenty of forechest. Well angulated rear and a well set tail, he moves soundly and true all ways. Well deserved best black dog.
Open fawn dog
1st Briddon and Fisher’s - Ch. Chandshar Me and Bobby McGee At Briddish JW
I still love this boy and have previously done him well on two other occasions, which he thoroughly deserved. He is an excellent size and shape and now fully mature. Masculine, firm and cobby with a smart outline, he is attentive and gives his all. I liked his head with attractive work and good pigment, he has dark eyes and neat ears set well. Straight front with good shoulders and a rear which balances the whole. He has excellent bone and moves out well if a little exuberant at times. Short plush and correct coat. Pushed all the way for top honours and made my decisions very hard. I feel he's a dog that's a very worthy Champion and he has been overlooked at times when he absolutely shouldn't have been! He is a dog that for breed type, make and shape - he should always be knocking at the door and considered for top honours now he is in his prime.
2nd Colliers - Ch. Pugistie Pop the Question
Another I have done well for previously. And at five years old he is fully mature and still very smart in outline with a large masculine head and good pigment. Correct straight front and rear with muscle tone. Moved well and was shown to perfection. I am of the opinion that this dog is a very worthy Champion.
3rd Kirk’s Hattella Oleander
Veteran Dog
1st McAleny’s - Ch Macmoore Tambourine Man JW ShCM
Larger type than my usual preference but with a glorious head piece for his age, honest boy with good bone and body. Moved well. A dog I liked in his younger days and today he could not be denied Best Veteran dog. A pleasure to judge him.
2nd Urwins Sunlea Legend of the Sword for Aneeva JW
Smaller and more my size preference. Good type, well ribbed and a nice head. Moved out steadily. Happy to see him out as a veteran and he pushed the winner hard. I just felt he showed his age more than the winner. I believe in his prime he should have been a Champion.
