Breed: Cairn Club Show
Northern Ireland Cairn Terrier Club Championship Show 28th September 2025 What an honour it was to be asked to judge this super friendly Show! Thank-you to all the committee for their wonderful hospitality and for the lovely gifts. Also thank-you to my stewards, who looked after me, I had a wonderful day! Thank-you also to the exhibitors for their entries and the sporting way in which they accepted my decisions. Although the entry was numerically small, it was definitely big on quality! Baby puppy Dog or Bitch - 1 1st. Hogarty’s Cadagio That’s What I Like, and I certainly did! At almost 6 months of age, this self assured youngster certainly has a bright future ahead of him. He has a very nice head with deep stop and dark eye, a super outline, nice straight front and good rear angulation, he moved soundly both front and rear, with plenty of drive. Minor Puppy Dog - No Entries Puppy Dog - No Entries Junior Dog - 1 1st. Cunningham’s Loughend Bright Aurora, his first show, so was a little apprehensive at first, but his confidence grew as the day went on. He has a very nice red coat of correct texture, a pleasing head, good neck and shoulders, excellent forechest and good bend of stifle, he moved well behind but pinned in at the front and was a little hunched along the topline. Maiden Dog - No Entries Novice Dog - No Entries Graduate Dog - 1 1st. Lamb and Saltmarsh’s Tycadno Shining Star Around Macmoon, striking and well balanced Wheaten with super head and expressive dark eyes, nice front, good forechest and good depth of ribs, he has an excellent topline and tailset, well angulated hindquarters, but could do with a little more hair on them to complete the picture. He showed well when standing, but sadly played his owner up on the move today… Post Graduate Dog - No Entries Limit Dog - 1 1st. Shopland’s Sanderfield On The Rocks For Cherrycrack IMP FIN, Well balanced Dark Brindle who excels in breed type, he has a super head and expression, with lovely dark eyes, very good bone, nice neck and shoulders, good topline and tailset, excellent coat and condition and moved very well behind. Open Dog - 6 (4 abs) 1st. Hogarty’s Ch, IR Ch, FI Ch Cadagio Another Day In Paradise, what a pleasure it was to go over this showy Red who is bang on for size and balance. He has a super outline with everything in the right place and no exaggerations. A very pleasing and masculine head, a nice straight front, plenty of forechest, and well sprung deep ribs. Perfectly level topline and excellent tailset. He has well angulated and muscular hindquarters and perfectly parallel movement front and back. He was well presented and handled and moved effortlessly around the ring with plenty of drive and presence. I was very happy to award him the Dog CC (his 11th) and BIS. 2nd. Yates-Johnson’s Ch Pendley Seafarer, very smart Dark Brindle with a super head and expression, very nice neck and shoulders, good front, topline and tailset, he moved well behind and showed himself off very well, pleased to award him the RCC. Veteran Dog or Bitch - 4 (2 abs) A close decision between these two. 1st. Lamb and Salmarsh’s Birselaw Come Dancing With Macmoon OSW JW shCM SHCEX, eight and a half year young dark brindle with the most super head and expression, so typical of his breeding, pleasing balance, with lovely neck and shoulders, very good topline and tailset and good bend of stifle. He showed really well and moved well from behind. 2nd. Keenan’s Golden Shadow of Loughend, seven and a quarter year young clear Red, who is perfectly balanced and super showy! She has a pleasing head with nice dark eyes, good forechest, neck and shoulders, good bend of stifle and moved well both ways. Well presented and handled. Special Beginners Dog - 1 1st. Cunningham’s Loughend Bright Aurora. Minor Puppy Bitch - No Entries Puppy Bitch - No Entries Junior Bitch - 2 1st. Hogarty’s Cadagio Mad about you, 14 month old Red Brindle who really impressed me with her super outline and showmanship. She has a lovely head and expression, nice front and forechest, good spring and depth of rib, perfectly level topline and tailset. She has parallel front movement and well angulated hindquarters enabling her to move with plenty of drive behind. She really pushed hard in the challenge, one to watch! 2nd. Keegan’s Loughend Moonlight Shadow, very showy 16 month old Red, who has a lot to like. She is a nice size and has a very nice balanced outline, pleasing head, good neck, shoulders and topline. She is sound behind and has a decent width, but toed in at the front. Well presented and handled but was carrying a little too much weight today… Maiden Bitch - 1 1st. Alexander’s Cannwood Moonlight Lady, the most attractive silver brindle, who really knows how to show herself off! She has a lovely feminine head with dark expressive eyes, a well balanced outline, with good forechest and good neck and shoulders. She has a decent bend of stifle and moved well behind with plenty of width, but a little wayward in front and lacking in depth of rib at the moment, but this may improve with maturity. Novice Bitch - No Entries Graduate Bitch - No Entries Post Graduate Bitch - No Entries Limit Bitch - No Entries Open Bitch - 6 (3 abs) It was such a pleasure to go over these three beautiful bitches! 1st. Yates-Johnson’s Ch Pendley Sea Breeze, super dark brindle who was so well handled and put down to perfection! She is so feminine and well balanced, has a really lovely head and expression with correctly shaped dark eyes. She has a good front, an excellent neck and clean well laid back shoulders that flow into a level topline. Good forechest with nice spring and depth of ribs. She has well angulated hindquarters and moved parallel both ways with plenty of drive behind. Really happy to award her the CC (her 11th) and Reserve Best in Show. 2nd. Shaw’s Ch Tycadno Star Attraction At Honeyhall, and what a Star she is! Another one who was so well handled and presented, she didn’t put a foot wrong. She has the best front assembly with plenty of bone, but still very feminine. She has a most attractive head with deep stop and has a topline that you could eat your dinner off! She has excellent deep, well sprung ribs, very well muscled hindquarters and moved with precision and ease around the ring. Carrying a little more weight than usual, which just held her off the top spot today…I was very happy to be given the opportunity to go over this lovely girl, that I have long admired. RCC. 3rd. Hogarty’s Ir Ch Cadagio Amelie, another one full of quality! J. Liz Hooton (Judge)
