Breed: Boston Terrier

Thank you to the committee of LKA for asking me to judge at their well run show and to my 2 stewards who I think were frozen with our ring been near the open door. My biggest thanks goes to all the exhibitors who gave me the opportunity to judge their dogs. A few things that I saw where a couple of dogs that were down-faced, also feet and movement, need to be improved.

 Minor Puppy Dog

1st- Rowell – Jayneze the Child for Clovipop 6 month old and very much a baby, he has a bigger frame which will take time to fill into. Ears, eyes and nose are well positioned and he has a good width and depth of muzzle. He has a lovely length of neck into the straightest of fronts and strong pasterns. Good length of rib and once settled he held his topline. I would like more width on his rear but he has time. Movement was clean once settled.

 Puppy Dog

1st-Rowell – Ivyjewel Black Magic at Clovipop Heavier boned male, with strong head, small well placed ears, dark round eye, deep stop, good width of muzzle. Adequate length of neck into his front that could be tighter but should come with age. Straight legs into strong pasterns. Good ribs that are well laid back, level topline into well set tail. Strong well-muscled rear, short well let down hocks which are parallel, moved sure footed but need time to tighten up – BPD.

2nd - MaCallum & Laing - Burlesk Varlove Billy Whizz Bang NAF Lighter framed dog who still has a lot of maturing to do. Nice clean head, with correct ear set, eye and nose placement good with width of muzzle to square head off, his pigmentation could be better. He has a good length of neck, straight front and strong pasterns and feet. He has ample rib which are well laid back, good rear which is balanced with his front. Just needs time. Moved straight and with ease.

Junior Dog

1st – Mairs – Ever Single Verlaine the Poet at Glanauld (IMP) 14 month old dog who is a lovely brindle and very eye catching in profile. He has lovely dark eyes that are well placed with his nose, deep stop, good width and depth of muzzle. I would like cleaner lips. Ears although small and thin could be higher. Good length of neck into straight front, nice strong pasterns and feet, He has well sprung ribs and a strong topline which he holds on the move. Good angulation and muscled rear, strong short hocks, pushed hard for RCC but would like freer front movement

2nd – Rodaway – Demorace Atmospheric A very smart brindle larger framed than 1st. He has a dark eye, deep stop and good width of muzzle and jaw to square it off. Strong small well placed ears that he used at all times. Good length of neck into well placed shoulders, straight front with strong pasterns, he is well ribbed with strong topline. His backend has lovely muscle and width which is balanced with his front, strong hocks. Unfortunately he was slightly unsettled today and didn’t show himself to best advantage.

Postgrad Dog

1st - Harrisons – Vickvally the Big Dill at Honeydukes Not a big dog at all but when going over him there is a lot to like. Lovely square head, with the darkest of eyes, correctly placed. Good stop and nose placement. Enough width of muzzle and jaw to square it off. Well placed thin ears which he used at all times. Nice length of neck into well laid shoulders and straight front, with enough width for his size. Strong pasterns, he has a short level topline which he holds on the move and enough rear angulation to balance him out. Moves true and sure footed a lot better free stood.

2nd – Jackson – Tigrato Maker’s Mark Brindle male who is square in profile. He has a clean head with small thin well set ears. He has good eye and nose placement, deep stop and good depth of foreface with abrupt brow. He has enough width and depth of muzzle. Good width of jaw to square his head off. He has good length of neck, straight front, strong pasterns and good feet. Short backed and low tail set. He tends to tense his topline. Well-muscled backend with strong hocks. Movement untidy.

 3rd – Mairs – Glenauld Texas Tom

Limit Dog

1st – Sabri – Hilltop’s Skepta Boy Knows (IMP USA) This male has a lovely clean head. Small thin ears which are set correctly on his skull. Beautiful dark eyes and excellent nose placement. Flat cheeks and good width of muzzle. I would prefer slightly more depth. He has good length of neck into well laid shoulders, straight front and short strong pasterns. He has nice ribs that are well laid back, level topline into a good curve to tail set. His rear has enough angulation to balance his front and he has strong hocks. Handler doesn’t show him off as well as she could, but he moves cleanly. RCC

2nd – Svitanovas – Valbrown’s Not for Sale for Rintintina JW (IMP Hun) Brindle dog who is square in profile, heavier and not as clean in head as 1st. He has lovely small thin ears which are correctly placed, dark eyes, deep stop and well placed nose. Lots of padding to muzzle but would like him cleaner lipped. Strong neck, good width in front with straight legs, strong pasterns and feet. Well ribbed but has a tendency to tense through his topline. Excellent muscled rear, angulated enough to balance his front, strong hocks, moved with purpose and sure footed.

Open Dog

1st – Keenan – CH. Chelmbull Return of the Mack at Nerros. Beautifully marked dog. Head is all male and clean. Small ears which are correctly set. He has the darkest of eyes and good stop. I would like his cheeks flatter but he has good width of muzzle and jaw to square his head off. He has a lovely length of neck into straight front, excellent pasterns and feet. He is well ribbed with a lovely level topline rounded slightly to tail set. His rear is well muscled and enough angulation to balance him. Strong hocks, his movement is clean and sure footed but would prefer freer movement in front. He looked fed- up in the challenge, and I wish he was more animated.

2nd – Bennetts – CH. Wildax Liverpool the Lad at Boxbos Another well turned out male. Head not as clean as 1st but he has small well set ears, which he used all the time. Good eye and nose placement with deep stop, muzzle parallel and with good padding, jaw is wide. He has a lovely length of neck into the straightest of fronts, excellent pasterns and feet. He has good rib and strong topline but sometimes can over reach and it slopes. I would like a lower tail set. He has a well-muscled rear which is well angulated and moved well. I preferred the overall balance of 1st .

3rd – Grange – Prince All Konfident Step to Bosties (IMP)

 Good Citizen Dog

 Special Beginners Dog

1st – Wistow & Guest – Yakee Murphy’s Rainbow A nice young dog, who makes a balanced shape in profile. He has a nice clean head, which still needs maturity to it, small well placed ears, lovely dark eyes which are well placed with his nose. He has good stop and flat cheeks. He has depth of muzzle but I would like more width and cleaner lips. Ample length of neck into a straight front that has good width, his ribs are well laid back. I would like a cleaner top-line but he has a good tail set and strong rear with enough rear angulation, and strong hocks. He moves correctly and surefooted. Him and his handler just need more training. Best SB.

Veteran Dog/Bitch

1st – Harrison – CH. Eairycor Celtic Manxspirit This dog is the ultimate showman and belies his age. A 9 year old dog with a clean head, ears are thin and set correctly and used at all times. He has the darkest of eyes, good stop and nose placement. Flat cheeks, good width and depth of muzzle, clean lips. He has a lovely length of neck that flows into good shoulders and tight elbows. I would like him cleaner from his pasterns down. Well sprung ribs which are well laid back. Short loin, his level topline is held on the move, he has a well-muscled rear and is balanced. Moves around the ring like he owns it. DCC, BV & BOS

2nd - Kings – Radcy Jive Kingsline 7 Year old bitch who didn’t look happy today. Clean head, thin well place ears. She had lovely dark eyes but showed a little too much white, they are well placed, deep stop, flat cheeks and has a good depth and width of muzzle. She has a nice length of neck into good shoulders and straight legs. She is longer than my ideal but has a strong level topline which she holds on the move, good rear angulation and strong hocks, clean precise mover.

Minor puppy bitch

1st – Sandells – Dolce Vita Selection Dragon Tail with Shawmut (IMP, It) Just 6 months old and has a lot of maturing to do in her head. Ears are thin and well placed which she uses at all times. Head flat on top, eyes dark but she shows some white. Deep stop and flat cheeks. She has a good length of neck into well placed shoulders, deep chest and strong legs. She has a lovely profile shape, level topline and well angulated rear. Her coat is short and fine. She moved well, just need to tighten with age

Her head still needs to mature but she has well set thin ears which she uses all the time. Really dark eyes that are well placed with flat cheeks and good stop. I would like more depth and width to muzzle but she has time on her side. Lovely length of neck into a straight front, strong pasterns and feet. Good ribs that are well laid back, strong topline which she holds on the move, slight curve to tail set and good rear angulation which is well muscled with strong straight hocks. 2nd – Swanborough’s – Emiliris Ray of Sunshine An 11 month old who wasn’t happy today. Has strong ears that she used at all times. Dark eyes and deep stop, adequate width of muzzle but would like more depth. Good length of neck, she needs to drop in front but she has time. Strong straight legs. Ribs good and well laid back. Difficult to judge her top line as she was so tense most of the time. Good rear angulation. Once she settled she moved ok.

Junior Bitch

1st – Kings – Kingsline Nell Gwyn Just 12 months old, and she has the cleanest of heads. Small, well set ears, good depth of foreface and flat cheeks. She has lovely round eyes, deep stop and good nose placement. Her muzzle has width and depth to square her head. She has a good length of neck into a straight front, strong pasterns and feet. I would like more lay back of shoulder but her topline is strong, level and held on the move. Adequate rib for her age and size. Good rear angulation which is balanced to her front, short strong hocks. Full of Boston character, she moved sure footed and parallel once settled.

2nd- Rodaway – Demorace Born Free Another very smart bitch of 12 months. She has good ears that are correctly set and used at all times, good eye and nose placement, flat cheeks. Enough width and depth of muzzle to square her head off. I just preferred the cleanness of winners head. Adequate length of neck into good front, straight legs and strong pasterns. Ribs well sprung, strong topline and adequate rear angulation and strong hocks. Moved steadily and sure footed but slightly close behind.

1st- Masters – Aprika Graceland Lovely young bitch, she has a clean head, dark eyes and well placed nose. Her cheeks are flat and deep stop. Good width and width of muzzle, wide jaw and good dentition. She has small well placed ears but sometimes can let herself down by the way she holds them. Lovely length of neck into straight front and strong pasterns. I would like a bit more width to chest but she still has time on her hands to mature. Good ribs that are well laid back. Strong topline that is held on the move. Adequate rear angulation which is balanced with her front and strong hocks. She is totally in tune with her handler and moves cleanly with adequate reach and drive. I would like to see her more animated.

2nd-Monk & Jones – Olearla Westfalen Real Gold. A very flashy bitch. Clean head, small thin ears, good eye placement and deep stop. She falls away slightly under the eyes but has adequate length and depth of muzzle. She has a lovely length of neck into a straight front and strong pasterns and feet. She is well ribbed and has strong topline that she holds on the move. I would prefer a lower tail set. Lots of rear angulation and width of thigh, strong hocks. She moved around the ring with confidence, straight in front but was untidy in her rear.

 3rd-Jackson – Tigrato Black Eagle

 Limit Bitch

A difficult class to judge.

1st-Walker – Ziost Rebel Commander Snips This bitch was carrying some excess weight today, but, she is square and has a good head. Ears well placed thin and small, a lovely round eye, deep stop and well placed nose. Flat cheeks and good width of jaw. I would like more neck but she has a good front onto straight legs. Level top line and correct tail set. She is moderate behind which is balanced to her front. She moved cleanly in front but was close behind.
