The Northern English Springer Spaniel Society Special Awards Classes. 20th July 2025

I would like to thank the committee for giving me the opportunity of judging the special awards classes at this show, my steward for being efficient and the exhibitors who chose to enter under me, those who did were very sporting.

Special Junior Dog or Bitch

1st. Mitchells, Peasblossom Dreams,

B/W/T bitch with a lovely outline, head pleasing with dark almond shaped eyes, decent fluting, good depth of flew, correct width to skull. Good length of neck into well placed shoulders, right amount of bone and lovely tight, rounded feet, she is well ribbed, good depth and ample forechest, her rear impressed me, correctly bent stifles, correct length of second thigh, hocks well let down. On the move she put on a good performance showing good reach and drive, good on the out and back, to be critical of this young bitch id prefer a better tail carriage.

2nd Jenkinson’s, Eastriding Royal Style, .

L/W bitch of good type, nice work to her head, good chisseling, fluting and depth to flew, correctly shaped eyes, would prefer colour to be darker, but she has time on her side there. Good neck into well laid back shoulders with the correct length of upper arm. Prefer more forechest, good ribbing, her rear is well angled but would prefer less length to second thigh. On the move she showed good reach and enough drive, great enthusiasm, unfortunately today i found she lost her topline on the move.

Special Post Graduate Dog or Bitch

1st. Hill’s Teignvalley Rags to Riches JW,

Classy, honest sort, balanced overall shape, good length of leg and body, her head is very well put together, correct fluting, chisseling and depth of flew, perfect shape to eyes. Good length of neck leading into ok shoulders, correct angle to upper arm, tight elbows, good feet, enough spring to rib, topline firm, she is well muscled throughout, her rear is typical for the breed, moderate bend to stifle, well let down hocks. Accurate on the move, i would like to see more enthusiasm.

2. Le-Clerc’s Hunterheck Fade To Black,

This boy gave his owner a bit of a hard time today, not showing himself off to advantage. That aside, he has a good head with nicely shaped eyes, correct ear set. Decent bone and straight legs. Nice length to the neck leading into ok shoulders, on the move he was a bit unsettled making it difficult to assess. Well presented.

Special Open Dog Or Bitch

This was a lovely class to judge

1.Mitchells’s Peasblossom Changes,

Upstanding dog of good proportions, lovely bone throughout. Very pleasing head, super work, correct chiseling, fluting and depth of flew, nicely shaped eyes, i’d prefer these to be darker, super length of neck into correct shoulders. Good angle and length to upper arm, tight enough at elbows with ample forechest, lovely ribs, correct topline which was firm, lovely thickness behind, hocks well let down. He stood on good well rounded feet. On the move he was impressive, great side gait, lovely out and back. Correctly carried tail showing a fabulous, happy attitude, I'm certain his future is bright.

2.Ternants Hunterheck Carianna,

This bitch oozes type, refined throughout and so elegant, super head piece, with a lovely expression, good length of neck leading into well placed shoulders, straight limbs, to be critical i’d want better feet, lovely ribs and enough depth, short loin, her rear is nicely let down, hocks of good length, overall id want more strength in this area, on the move her profile gait was accurate, ok out and back, overall i think she too has a bright future, she's classy and ultra feminine, i look forward to following her.
