French Bulldogs
I thoroughly enjoyed my day with a very sporting crowd of breed enthusiasts and their equally charming charges. Temperaments, without exception, were excellent. The day was sunny and very warm and so I opted to judge under cover. Thank you for a decent entry, it was a pleasure to judge your dogs.
Just a couple of observations, size does seem to vary. The standard asks for a sturdy, compact small dog being solid with good bone. I did find a few that although solid and well boned, were far too large and too long in body.
Toplines were also a concern with some being too flat with no rise over the loin at all. But more worryingly there were some that dipped behind the withers thus giving the impression of a rise over the loin when in fact it is just a weakness in back. This did tend to also go alongside those who were longer in body. On the plus side, the exaggerated roach that once was seen, does seem to be very much in the minority.
Movement in general has improved although some could still be stronger moving away.
Dogs
Minor puppy
1: Olijah Going in Deep (Miss O Timms), 7 month brindle who is well grown and mature for his age. He pleases for head properties, excellent expression, super ears and a decent nostril. Has depth of chest and is well ribbed with a slight narrowing behind them. Correct topline but would not want him any longer. On the move he scores as he uses himself in profile and keeps an outline. RCC and BP
2: Khanin His A Very Naughty Boy (Mr R, Mrs M & Mrs J D Smith & Pratt), 7 month fawn who has substance and is presented in super condition. Loved his expression and he uses his ears all the time. Would just prefer a more open nostril. Good topline and has a decent tail. Could be cleaner on the out and back but he looked good in profile.
3: Zimblistic Elgon (Ms K Thornton)
Puppy
1: Scandal Blockbusterfrenchies at Bellicose (imp) (Mrs L Smith), 9 month old brindle of good type and size. Loved his head and expression. Super topline and compact all through. On the move age told, and although he displays a clown like attitude, he just needs to put his mind to the job in hand because for brief moments he puts his feet in the right place and is totally sound.
2: Zimblistic Spooky Charm Delightbull (Miss L Wood),10 month pied dog of type. Pleases for head properties and he has a decent topline and balance. A smidge longer than the winner, but he is sound in profile and put his feet in the right place.
3: Maznlilroo Man of Power (Mrs S. Hughes)
Junior
1: Jafrak Sugar Ray for Gwynsel (Miss S Williams) 15 month fawn. Excellent for size and balanced in outline with the correct shape. Super head, expression ears and open nostrils. He has a decent forehand but would just like him cleaner coming towards me. He has good depth to chest and is well ribbed with cut up. Correct topline and balanced behind. Scores in profile action and was handled very well.
2: Zimblistic Spooky Charm Delightbull (Miss L Wood)
3: Oschalben Olympus (Miss S Hutchinson)
Yearling
1: Bestfrenchie Pirat at Muggshotts (Mrs L Bonsall), pied boy of good size, type and substance. Super ear and expression but would not want any more wrinkle over the nose. He is good for topline and tail. Stacked he presents a typically Frenchie outline. On the move he impresses in profile but he just needs to strengthen going away.
2: Franstelgo's Low Rider (Miss V & Ms D Ross & Marrs), decent brindle boy with a super head and expression. He too is the correct shape with decent ribbing a a slight rise over the loin. Has substance and bone. Front action was a tad laboured today.
3: Membully Razzmataz at Ellouab JW (Mrs D Smith)
Post Grad
1: Bincombefarm Morsmordre JW (Mrs K & Mr N & Miss K P French), Tiger brindle with a pleasing expression and decent ear. He is balanced in outline. He moved out on the right track. Compact all through and this is where he won the class. I see he is the brother to my BOB.
2: Onnis of My Sweet Moments (Imp Hun) (Mrs H Korennaja), fawn boy who was longer cast than the winner. He has a pleasing expression and decent for nostril. In good condition. He used himself to advantage on the move in profile but could be cleaner coming and going.
3: Queenslake Inspector Morse (Mr A & Mrs L Hunt & Poulson)
Limit
1: Serenant Maverick (Mrs L & Mr J Brooks), brindle with a decent head and expression and uses his ears well. Balanced in outline and correct in topline. He won the class on more precision on the out and back
2: Roalice Major Mouse (Miss L Roach), close up this brindle also really scores in head and expression. In optimum condition and catches the eye in profile. Just could be stronger going away.
3: Zorro of Shine Treasure for Oschalben JW (Miss S Hutchinson)
Open
1: Ch Khanin Gunner Make It (Mr R, Mrs M & Mrs J D Smith & Pratt). Not the first time I have met this Brindle boy as I shortlisted him in the group at Manchester earlier this year. He scores in many departments. Firstly he has the most delightful head and expression being totally square in outline with just the right amount of wrinkle shown when he is alert. Plenty of cushioning too. His outline is classically Frenchie, well ribbed with plenty of substance, a cut up and slight narrowing behind. Slight rise over the loin leading to a moderate hindquarter. He is all male and, for me, top of the size bracket. His action is typical, sound and free. Presented in wonderful condition, I found him very worthy of the CC today. Quality dog through and through. Interestingly too, I see he is a son of my BCC last time I judged.
2: Ch Bevanray Terrypendry JW (Mrs B Hucker), pied of type and shape and the correct topline. He pleases for head properties but not quite the expression of the winner. He is sound to go over and has substance all through. Good for size and compact. On the move he pleases in profile but could possibly be a smidge stronger going away.
3: Ch Chelmbull Space Man (Mr G & Miss L Hickin & Rankin)
Veteran
1: Ch Eastonite Maui JW ShCM OSW (Miss O Timms), 8 year old fawn who is in wonderful condition and is the ultimate showman. Would not want anymore of him and he could be a tad shorter. He pleases in head and expression and has super ears that he uses all the time. Moved out with freedom.
Bitches
Minor puppy
1: Olijah Coming for You (Miss O Timms), 7 month brindle of real type and shape and has a superb outline. She has great ears and a wonderful expression. Sound on the move and scores going away. She has time on her side.
2: Oschalben Olissa at Bevanray (Mrs B Hucker), 8 month with a glorious head and expression. She is on the smaller side but has substance all through. Looks great in profile just needs to settle going away.
3: Oschalben Odessa (Mrs L & Mr T Ward)
Puppy
1: Kianspuchi Audrey Hepburn (Mrs A Goddard), 10 month brindle of type and certainly champion quality with the average amount of luck. Pleasing in outline being very compact, has a cut up and a slight rise over the loin. Sound on the move and uses herself to advantage.
2: Xandene Caramel Fudge (Mr G & Mrs B Morison), 10 month old fawn who is presented to perfection. Liked her head and expression and she has the correct rise in topline. Moved well in profile, just preferred the compactness of the winner today.
3: Empireob’s Rexha (Miss K Harrison)
Junior
1: Kingfriend Miss Milan (Mr D Friend), just out of puppy this brindle scores very much for type and size. She has a delightful head, wonderful expression and true bat ears. Not the biggest but she is compact, solid and sturdy yet totally feminine. There are times when she can look a little flat in topline but on inspection there is just enough rise over the loin. Handled very well she moved out smartly and soundly. Should title.
2: Chelmbull Forget Me Not (Mr D & Miss A & Miss S Cund & Cund & Wilkinson), very close up and another of real champion quality, I was splitting hairs here as she too is very typical in outline and possibly has a slightly better topline than the winner as she has more of a defined rise. She too is compact and solid all through. Looks good in profile, it was the precision on the out and back of the winner today that tipped the balance in her favour. They will change places on more than one occasion I’m sure. I admired them both very much.
3: Kianspuchi Hedy Lamarr (Mrs A Goddard)
Yearling
1: Franstelgo's No Action (Miss V & Ms D Ross & Marrs), brindle of type, good for size and compact in outline. Super head and expression and she has depth and a correct topline. Good in forehand and balanced behind.
2: Gailbulls Miss Gabrielle for Oschalben (Miss S Hutchinson), pied bitch who is a smidge bigger than the winner but still has femininity and balance. She is super to go over on the table and has a decent topline. A little loose coming towards me but time is on her side.
3: Castleallen Rising Star (IKC) (Miss Z M Hendry)
Post Grad
1: Wildax Rowendale Christmas Pudding (Mrs H Korennaja), pleasing brindle who has a decent outline and enough topline. Her expression is a delight and she shows herself off to advantage. Sound on the move
2: Ravendane Olive Oil over Redolouz (Ms L E Jones), another decent brindle for size and type. Typical in outline and in head . Super ears. Not as clean going away today.
3: Bestfrenchie Amnezja (Mrs D P, Mr S K, Miss K P & Mr E K Plominska & Kil)
Limit
1: Bincombefarm Serpensortia JW (Mrs K & Mr N & Miss K P French). The old adage of took my eye as soon as she entered the ring would not be true here as she didn’t interest me until she was put onto the table. This pied bitch is not the most flatteringly marked, however when I was going over her I felt the hairs on the back of my neck start to twitch. Firstly her head properties are spot on with wonderful eye and nose placement and an open nostril. She has true bat ears correctly set. Square in head with just the right amount of wrinkle but still totally feminine. She has a powerful neck into excellent forehand. Well ribbed with the desired narrowing behind her and the correct rise over the loin. Superb for size and compact all through. Once on the floor she powered around the ring with style and precision showing that she really could go all day. Just could not get past her today and was very worthy of the CC & BOB. When I asked if this was her first, I was delighted to be told that it gave her a well deserved title. Also that she was sired by my BOB last time I judged. Not content with this I was very proud to watch her secure a super Group 3 and putting on a great show where she gained many an admirer.
2: Khanin Shine On Jafrak (Mr & Mrs J Krall), super brindle of the correct shape and has the most glorious expression. Excellent size, solid all through and compact. She pleases for topline and looks good in profile. Just a tad loose coming towards me today but she is title bound,
3: Kingfriend Miss Grier (Mr D Friend)
Open
1: Ch Rischale Henrietta at Ellouab JW (Mrs D Smith), my RCC last time I judged and had to settle once again for the RCC today. This brindle has a quintessential Frenchie outline and is a wonderful size and shape. Her head and expression cannot but impress and she is in the most wonderful condition. Moved out smartly and soundly holding her outline well. She is very worthy of her title and she will continue to have good days. I just could not get past the absolute precision of the limit winner on the move today.
2: Ch Budbulls Maximum Impact for Olijah JW (Imp Srb) (Miss O Timms), liked this bitch too , she has the correct outline and and is super stylish on the move in profile. She has a slight rise over the loin and is compact and solid. Just a tad erratic going away today which cost her.
3: Ch Chelmbull Eternal Flame (Mr D & Miss A Cund)
Veteran
1: Ch Jafrak Putting On The Charm (Mr & Mrs J Krall), 7 year old fawn in superb condition, she is quality and true to type. Super head and expression and sound on the move. Super for size and the correct outline for the breed. A real credit to both breed and owner. BV
