Hound Association

Breed: Beagle

I would like to thank the officers and committee of The Hound Association for their kind invitation to judge Beagles at their 2025 Championship Show and the exhibitors for an excellent entry of 99 making 113 entries. The weather sadly was very changeable on the day having rained heavily early in the morning, so the decision was taken for all judging to be completed indoors. I had an excellent sized ring which allowed the dogs to really stride out and my stewards for the day, Graham and Magda, kept the classes moving to ensure we were finished in good time. The overall quality of the dogs present today was good and I was delighted with my overall winners, however I was disappointed to find some incorrect bites and exceptionally long nails on some exhibits that needed attention.

1st Place - Rossut Zavier at Sandylands (Mrs E Jayes) tri who is all male without any coarseness, loved the head on this boy which is well shaped with a kind eye, lovely dark pigment and well set leathers to frame, long arched neck into well laid back shoulders, straight front and firm elbows, lovely round bone, he is well ribbed back and strong through the loin, excellent bend of stifle and sound muscled quarters. On the move he strode out effortlessly with reach and drive. Delighted to award him the DCC, his 2nd I was told afterwards, in excellent competition. 1st Place - Charterwood Gold Magic (Mrs J L Philpott) my find of the day at her first show! Beautiful tan & white with the most gorgeous head and expression, kind dark eye and well set leathers, arched neck into well laid shoulders, straight front and round bone with legs well under, well ribbed back, she excels in hind quarters with well let down hocks and bend of stifle, level topline and tailset. The more she moved in the class and challenges the better she got showing so much promise, she could not be denied BPB and BPIB. It was a shame her owners couldn’t stay for the puppy group.

2nd Place - Brigam Tainted Love (Mrs A Statham) another pretty tan & white, finer boned than 1st, pleasing head with long leathers, long neck into good shoulders, good depth of chest, well ribbed and short coupled, sound quarters, moved well for her age.

1st Place – CH Felinoak Hennessy (Mrs C Tanner) my notes say “a pocket rocket!”, quality feminine tan & white who I have admired from afar for sometime. She presents such a balanced picture on the stack, has a pretty head framed by long leathers, a clean arched neck with well laid shoulders, lovely straight front with firm elbows and tight feet, good depth of chest and spring of rib, exceptional hindquarters which she showed me on the move, reaching and driving her way to both the BCC in excellent company and BOB against a quality male. Delighted to see her shortlisted in the group too. Congratulations!

2nd Place - Molesend Impish JW (Mr M W & Mrs J S Goldberg) another quality youngster who was unlucky to meet 1st in such fine form, pleasing head with kind dark eye, lovely arched neck and well placed shoulders, round bone, well bodied with good spring of rib and depth of chest, excellent topline and tailset, she moved out with purpose in the class but sadly not so in the challenge for the RBCC with a change of handler.

1st Place - Ch Annavah Princess Tiana (Miss L A & Mrs P J Havard) tri who was my RBCC last time I judged and all of my comments still apply, she is so well balanced throughout with the soundest of fronts, deep chest and well ribbed, short coupled and excellent bone and feet. Today she just lacked the sparkle on the move of the JB but could not be denied the RBCC.

2nd Place - Tannahill Calissa (Miss A Binks) tan & white who sadly was unsettled today when a metal bin was dragged across the floor, however she regained her composure to show me her sound movement and deserved her place today. Beautiful head and expression, straight front and well angulated quarters.
