United Kingdom Toydog Society
Firstly, thank you to the UK Toy committee for inviting me to judge my breed at this prestigious show, it was a real honour.
Secondly, thank you so much to all the exhibitors who entered under me and for giving me the opportunity to go over your lovely dogs and taking all decisions in such a sporting manner. There was a lovely atmosphere around the ring.
A couple of things that stuck out to me through the entry is that I fear we are finding far too many low on leg, a Papillon should be ‘well-balanced’ and you cant achieve this with short legs. One of my main worries is that I found far too many big and heavy papillons, this is so untypical for the breed and us breeders need to take a care in making sure this does not spiral out of control and we lose the complete essence of the breed.

Today Glamourous Guy just pipped his brother to the post on his slightly sounder back end but two lovely puppies who I am sure will swap on many occasions.

1st: 998 KEOWN, Mrs Mandy Keomandi Fly Me To The Moon JW tri dog, that impressed me greatly the last time I judged but was at the awkward ‘junior’ stage - I was delighted to see him back under me today where he has most certainly bodied & coated up! Large, correctly set ears with enough fringing and used to advantage at all times. Well made bodied with excellent ribbing and body. Finely boned forelegs with correct hare feet. Gorgeous dark expressive eyes. Wonderful large mobile ears used to advantage at all times. Lovely length of neck laying back into a well angulated front. Correctly set tail of a good length and arched nicely over his back with a good plume falling either side. Moved out soundly but unfortunately today seemed a little lack lustre and lacked the enthusiasm I have seen in him previously and really made his talented young handler work hard for this win. Hopefully his title is not to far away.

Moderate length of neck, leading into well laid shoulders. Well bodied for his age with a good spring of rib. Finely boned, straight legs and correct hare feet. Level topline held firm at all times, with tail set correctly off his back and arched nicely over with enough plume. On the move he is full of attitude and really strides out with confidence, sometimes a little too much! He is very sound coming and going and presents a beautiful, elegant outline in profile. Silky coat presented beautifully. He is still only young and does have room to mature more as to be expected but today I could not deny him the CC & BOB, and I was thrilled to see him cut in the BIS line up. Very interesting to see, that I have awarded his sire a CC, his grandfather a CC and his great-grandfather a RCC! A type I must like!

Well made with everything flowing nicely into place. Good body and substance for her age. Fine, slender legs with correct hare feet. Well-turned stifle. On the move she is light and free and very positive coming and going. Presented in first class order, as always from this breeder/handler. She was within a hairs breadth of winning the RCC today but she just needs a little more time to coat up and once fully coated, I will expect her to gain her title with ease.

Excellent depth to chest, well sprung rings and carrying more than enough body! Level topline with tail set correctly off her back with a super plume. She is so eye catching on the move with a lovely profile action and one of the soundest dogs here today. However, for me, she is just slightly too big and heavy in bone.
