THE ENGLISH IBIZAN HOUND CLUB

CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW ONE

SPECIAL AWARD CLASSES

SUNDAY 19th OCTOBER 2025

It was an absolute honour and privilege to be invited to judge the Special Award classes at the English Ibizan Hound Club Championship Show. This is a breed I have been interested in and attracted to for many years, being introduced to them by the late Diana Berry (Sin) who had them alongside her Basenjis. The fact I was told that always stuck in my mind, was that they could clear a 12 foot fence from a standing leap! Proof of their extreme athleticism and capability, a unique breed like no other, just like Basenjis!

My overall view today was that there are some real quality dogs in the UK at present. I see the show dogs here are now largely comprised of imports, which prompted me to look at the Kennel Club’s 10 yearly registration statistics, although they have never commanded high numbers, I have to say I was quite dismayed. I do hope that these ancient and special sighthounds continue to have a place in the UK for years to come.

Special Award Yearling Dog or Bitch (6-24 months) (4)

1. Carter’s CH L-WYND’S WHERE THE SHADOW ENDS JW (Imp USA). 16 month old rough coated dog, just preferred his overall size, shoulders and front construction, very typical, with a strong and punishing jaw, portraying overall strength with elegance. Well shaped masculine head with a dignified outlook. Moderate and firm construction, not over angulated with straight front limbs and long second thigh, presenting a very balanced outline, short coupled with a good topline, strong bone and well arched feet. Easy effortless movement, at one with his handler. I can picture him hunting over rough terrain, an impressive young dog.

2. Vescan’s PEACEMAKER APACHE BALTAS VEJAS (Imp) Also 16 months, of different type and smooth coated. Very masculine, on the taller side, slightly longer in the body, but has an eye catching outline, though more hind angulation than the more moderate winner. A really lovely head, very typical, well shaped with expressive intelligent eyes and using his large erect ears to full advantage. Floating on the move with a real hover, ready to leap into action.

3. Vargen’s JEQUE LA PRINCESA ROSA DE PODI (Imp Svn)

Special Award Open Dog or Bitch (7)

1. Hall’s CH/IR CH AFILADOR WHEAL GRACE. Absolutely loved this beautiful bitch, gleaming chestnut coat, a classical and distinctive make and shape, though a little down on pasterns. Harmoniously constructed and easy on the eye. Feminine well proportioned head with forward pointing erect ears, pleasing expression from almond eyes, long and arched neck, moderate angles, strong well arched feet. Well conditioned, moved freely and easily, so happy to see she is UK bred.

2. Hamilton’s CH CAMABAROS LA REVOLTOSA WITH HARRISCLUB (Imp Swe). Another beautiful bitch of classic type, lean yet strong head with large erect ears, very expressive with far seeing almond eyes. Strongly yet conservatively made all through, long neck, moderately angled with correct steep shoulders, good topline, well arched feet, long limbs enabling springy movement. Another who looks bred for the hunt.

3. Vescan’s GORGONA DE ENTRESALTOS (Imp Sp)
