Gundog Society of Wales Championship Show : 15th October 2025

I would like to thank the committee of GSOW for the invitation to judge and award my 1st set of CC’s. The day was made even more special as my co judge was my daughter. To judge your own breed is a privilege and to do so at the highest level is a real honour.

My thanks to my 2 super stewards who kept me right in the ring but most of all my thanks to the exhibitors for your entry and accepting my decisions with grace. Your goldens were all presented with clean coats and groomed well to enhance their beauty.

My only concern of note is that there were a number of male goldens that were overweight, this was from young classes up to Open

Minor Puppy Dog :

1. Wainwright Mrs EM ASHBYGLEN I DREAMED A DREAM – Very much a baby but really liked overall shape and balance of this boy. Head is all male but still with the sweetest expression. Presented well with a big wavy blonde coat, good angles for age, good topline, nice bone and substance, super feet. Moved well once settled with ever wagging tail.

2. Jackson-Haines Mr G & Mrs J LEIGHSHAM SWEENEY TODD – This puppy has lovely balance with good angulation for and aft. Masculine head without been strong. Good reach of neck to well placed shoulders. Currently just standing bum high however on the move his topline levelled. Moved very sound and true.

3. Copley Miss E ASHBYGLEN TRUE COLOURS AT EMMABE

Puppy Dog :

1. Birkin-Green Mrs & Gripton Mrs H LOUELLABROOK ATLANTIC STAR WITH SANSUE JW – So much to like about this boy. Most pleasing head with super pigment, good reach of neck into well laid shoulders, solid topline and level tailset. Standing on super feet, straight front legs, good forechest and return of upper arm. Well muscled rear with good bend of stifle allowing to move with drive. Awarded Best Puppy in Breed and delighted to see him awarded Puppy Group 3

2. Mears Mr N & Mrs M AMBERSUN WINTER STORM – Another beautiful puppy with melting expression & kind dark eye. Strong neck, good shoulder placement and super topline with tail carried level off the back. Good angulation, well ribbed and short coupled. Well off for bone and straight front legs. Moved really well and sound.

3. Davis Mrs L LYNSTE DREAM BOY (AI)

Junior Dog :

1. Bolton Mr RC & Mrs J GOLDMARKER I DREAMED A DREAM AT SHIRESMILL – Mid gold boy in profuse coat. Lovely head with dark pigment, lovely eye and good depth of muzzle. Stands four square, so balanced with good forechest, return of upper arm and tight elbows. Good depth of chest, good spring of ribs and short coupled. Well muscled rear, hocks well let down. Moved effortlessly round the ring.

2. O'Gorman Mrs P & Mr S BERRYMEADE LIGHT MY FIRE – Darker gold boy not in full bloom but didn’t detract from his lovely shape. Well chiselled head, strong neck flowing into well laid shoulders, solid topline and tailset. Good shoulder placement and good forquarters. Short coupled, good bend of stifle, standing on super catlike feet. Moved very sound and at one with handler.

3. Ellis Ms K TENFIELD DUNKELD DINGO JW

Yearling Dog :

1. Wooden Mrs P & Mr K AMILONE SMOKIN BARREL AT SALAKO – Beautiful blonde boy in full coat. Appealing head with very kind expression & darkest pigment. Muscular neck, shoulders well placed flowing to level topline and tail set. Good forechest and front angulation. Elbows tight into a deep chest. Straight front, good bone and super feet. Good width of thigh, bend of stifle and well muscled rear allowing to move true once settled.

2. Moore Miss S TENFIELD KLIPSPRINGER WITH AURYNGRA – Gold boy standing four square with a constant wagging tail. Masculine head, well chiselled, dark eye with a softness. Balanced front and rear with level topline and tail set/carriage on the move. Moved well.

2. Copley Miss E ASHBYGLEN TRUE COLOURS AT EMMABE – Another super young puppy, lots to like. Gentle head with kind expression. Super topline and tailset, balanced angles for and aft, short coupled. Moved well and in tune with handler.

1.Towers Mrs S & Henderson Mrs M BARICIA BELLA DIVINO JW – This boy filled my eye as he came into the ring and didn’t disappoint with hands on. Masculine well chiselled head but still with a melting expression with dark pigment and eye. Strong muscular neck set on well placed shoulders. Good forechest and return of upper arm allowing for good reach. Straight legs, well off for bone and tight feet. Level topline, tailset and tail carriage on the move. Deep bodied, strong muscular hindquarters, hocks well let down. Moved very true and with drive. Will watch his future with interest. Awarded the RCC

Graduate Dog :

1. O'Gorman Mrs P & Mr S BERRYMEADE BILLY SUMMERS (AI) JW – This boy bounced into the ring wanting my attention. Presented in a dark rich gold coat I really liked his overall balance. Strong head with good expression and super pigment. Super topline, good spring of rib, good forechest, deep chest, well angulated front and rear and well muscled covering the ground as he moved with good footfall.

2. Vernon Mr MP & Mrs DJ GRACELEIGH LEGEND OF TARZAN – Very close between this boy and 1st. This blonde boy is full of elegance, masculine yet gentle head, good length of neck set on well placed shoulders flowing into a perfect level topline and tailset. Good front and rear angles, good depth of chest, would prefer less length in loin. Well muscled and moved with drive.

3. Wright Mr JL & Mrs CILM PALTON PLATINO

Post Graduate Dog :

1. Carter Mrs S & Mstrs E & A & Mr J KADAKA KAULDRUN JW – Mid gold boy with such balance. Shown in beautiful full coat. His head is so appealing, masculine yet so gentle. Strong muscular neck, good lay of shoulders with good front quarters. Super topline and tail carriage, ribs well sprung and chest with good heart room. Well off for bone and super cat feet. Strong loin, stifles well bent and thighs well muscled, moved so easy covering the ground.

2. Harvey Mr DJ & Anderson Mr P ALIBREN ROCK LEGEND FOR ASHIQUA – Another super boy who I admired for his quality. Same attributes as 1st, Beautiful head, strong neck, level topline. Good forechest, straight front legs and cat feet, just not the bone of 1st. Short coupled, with good muscular rear allowing to move effortlessly.

3. Archer Miss P HAYDENGOLD JUST A RUMOUR AT SUNANDAIR JW

Mid Limit Dog :

1. Bolton Mr RC & Mrs J MEGARVEY STILL GAME FOR SHIRESMILL JW – Upstanding dog of good size, in lovely gold coat, balanced proportions and good hard muscular condition. Head well chiselled with super expression. Neck of good length, perfect topline and tail set. Good spring of rib & short coupled. Free stands so attentively to handler and moves soundly with reach and drive.

2. Foreman Mr G & Mrs T AMBERSUN I'LL FLY FOR YOU – This boy had fun in the ring, full of enthusiasm making his handler work hard. Free stands with a constant wagging tail he is a picture. His head is typical of the breed, masculine, well chiselled with a soft expression. Well laid shoulders good forechest and good return of upper arm. Elbows tight to a deep chest. Good rear angulation. Moved soundly once he settled

Limit Dog

1. Gerhold Mrs J NAVILIS VIVAT VIVALDI (IMP UKR) JW - Blonde boy of super quality, have admired for sometime and didn’t disappoint. Strong masculine head, lovely eye shape, good pigment and deep muzzle. Muscular neck, super topline and tailset which is carried level on the move. Good front quarters, straight legs and fabulous feet. Tad long in loin. Well angulated, strong and muscled rear which drives him on the move.

2. Williams Mrs L EVENINGHILL DETROIT RED – Gold boy in lovely coat and condition. Beautiful head with dark eye, dark pigment, good length of muzzle and good stop giving the most melting expression. Muscular neck flowing to well laid shoulders, solid topline and tailset. Would like more upper arm to allow the legs more under the body. Well developed body, short coupled. Good width of thigh with good bend of stifle. Well of for bone, straight legs and super feet. In good hard condition and moved well.

Open Dog :

1. Loverock Mrs MC & Waldron-Smith Mrs L SH CH THORNYWAIT SPACE COWBOY AT LOVISSA JW – This boy caught my eye as he entered the ring and I couldn’t take my eyes away from him. From his masculine head with the kindest expression to the tip of tail he pleased me. Good reach of neck, well laid shoulders into perfect topline, tailset and carriage all held on the move. Good forechest, good front angles, straight front legs set well under the body. Ribs well sprung, good substance, perfect weight. Good rear angulation, well muscled. Moved effortlessy with reach & drive. Delighted to have awarded the CC.

2. Facq Mr B TERRA DI SIENA BLOWIN' IN THE WIND (ATC ESP) – Blonde boy in profuse coat. Stands four square with wagging tail and very attentive to handler. Beautiful head, Well angulated front and rear, super bone, straight legs and super cat like feet. Well bodied, would not want any more weight. Very well muscled moving with such drive.

3. Gerhold Mrs J NAVILIS NOUVEAU VENU (IMP UKR) JW

Champion Dog :

1. Bardossy Dr E INT CH./MULTI CH DEWMIST JUST A SPELL (ATC SWE) – Blonde boy in good hard working condition. Good length of neck into excellent shoulders and topline. Excellent front assembly, deep thru the chest and ribs well sprung. Would like less length in loin. Good rear angulation, moved very well covering the ground with ease.

2. Bawden MBE Miss CL SH CH BALSAMINA BEACHCOMBER AT DARTHILL JW – Another dog I have admired from ringside. Beautiful head, good reach of neck that flows to super topline and tailset. Balanced angulation front and rear. Well bodied, short coupled, moved very well.

Veteran Dog :

1. Loverock Mrs MC & Waldron-Smith Mrs L LOVISSA SPACE DUST ShCM VW – This boy at just shy of 11 years still makes me smile and oozes quality. Still such a showman. He has the most beautiful head so typical of the breed. Strong neck, super shoulders and still the most perfect topline. Excellent front and rear angulation, well bodied and not carrying any excess weight. His movement is sound, true and a joy to watch. Best Veteran in Breed.

2. Ellis Ms K TENFIELD REX IMPERATOR JW – Lovely boy in full gold coat. Lovely soft head with good pigment, dark eye and ears well set. Good forchest, would like more return of upper arm to balance the well angulated rear. Deep bodied, ribs well sprung and short coupled. Super topline and tailset. Good bone and super cat feet, moved well for runner once settled.

2. Davis Mrs L LYNSTE DREAM BOY (AI) – This boy was also 3rd in Puppy and a lovely puppy he is. Sweet head good length of neck, shoulders well laid and super topline. Good balanced front & rear angulation. Body just right for age. Moved very well.
