Gordon Setters

Thank you to the committee for the invitation to judge Gordon Setters. I genuinely appreciated the opportunity and was delighted by the excellent entry. The exhibits were varied, beautifully presented, and made for an enjoyable and fulfilling day.

Class 80 Puppy (5:0)

1st and BP, Bell, Millar & Bells. Laurelhach Mercedes At Blairbelles. A lovely feminine bitch that is still raw but lots to like about her. She was a little upset with something in the hall but did settle. Her head is of correct proportions with slightly rounded skull, nicely shaped eyes that are dark, ears set low, all contributing to a pleasing expression. Good front construction with well laid shoulder blades, good elbow position and close to her body, deep chest that will improve and spring with her development, good bone. Topline level leading to a nicely set tail that she used well on the move. Nice rear angulations, with good muscle. Nice feet with well arched toes and lovely clear tan. On the move she went well especially as she is at that leggy stage and a little loose but still went true and showing drive. A promising puppy that just pipped second place with her movement to be awarded BP.

2nd Munro’s Xclusiv Pour Dulmaur Belfleur Du Roux-Mirror. A very pleasing traditional head on this young pup, lovely dark brown eyes, and nice low set ears of good length. Nice front construction with well laid shoulders, elbows placed well, good flat bone, nice tight feet and good pasterns, good level topline and nice compact body, croup slightly steep but good tail set, good depth of chest. Nice rear angulation and not too long from hip to hock and well muscled. Presented in good coat condition. Showed plenty of drive on the move but just not quite as true as 1st but overall a very nice young boy.

3rd Hogg’s Gailiech Wirnpa.

Class 85 Junior (2:0)

1st. Cuthbertson’s, Lainnireach Star Gazer. A nice compact boy. At just two years but showing good substance in correct proportions. His head is correct with a pleasing expression and lovely eyes, nice reach of neck, good forechest and good angulation at both front and rear with good bone and clear tan. super level topline, croup and correct tail set that he used well. Moved true with drive and worked well with his handler.

2nd Miller’s, Cafoteliena Heart of A Hero. Head well proportioned though lighter than 1, eye shape was different to 1 but dark in colour, good neck and not throaty, very good front and rear angulation with well bent stifles, good bone and feet with good clear tan. Nice depth of chest and ribs beginning to spring. good level topline. On the move a little close going away but demonstrated drive and good tail action.

Class 86 Special Yearling (2:0)

1st Cuthbertson’s, Lainnireach Star Gazer.

2nd Miller’s, Cafoteliena Heart of A Hero.

Class 87 Novice (0:0)

Class 88 Graduate (3:0)

1st Miller’s, Cafoteliena Heart of A Hero.

2nd Burke’s, Pipruda Jubilee. Pleasing head and expression, very good front construction and shoulders laid well back, good topline and croup, would have preferred more depth of chest, very good rear angulation with stifles bent well. Longer in hock. Moved well with drive and good side gait. Will improve as she matures.

3rd Gray’s Kattandale Blac Hawke’s Bay at Birniehill (AI)

Class 89 Post Graduate (1:0)

1st O’Kelly & Hancocks, Caradilis Little Sparkler. Pleasing head with ears set low, Neck a little shorter than I would prefer but reasonable, acceptable front construction with good substance of bone, good topline and croup with nice tail set, and good rear angulation, well muscled at rear. Presented with a good shiny coal black coat. Initially a little unsettled on the move but did overcome this.

Class 90 Limit (5:2)

1st Sheilds, Amscot Brief Encounter. A compact boy, with a classic head and nice dark eyes, nice long arched neck, Very good front construction with shoulders well laid back. With good solid flat bone, nice level topline, and tail carried well. Good rear angulation, hocks a little long. Demonstrated good drive and was the best on the move out of the three in this class.

2nd Miller’s, Liric Just The Ticket. A broader head than 1 with plenty of stop and good muzzle length, nice eye shape giving an intelligent but soft expression. acceptable front and rear angulation with good bone, lovely oval feet with clear good coloured tan. Good level topline that he held well on the move. Didn’t show as much positive drive as 1 but moved well.

3rd O’Kelly & Hancocks, Lainnireach Original Tonic At Caradilis.

Class 91 Open (3:0)

1st & BOB. Bell, Millar & Bell’s, Balnakeil Bienn Corradail of Blairbelles. A solid substantial compact boy well presented with super head proportions all round, strong but not overdone, lovely kind but intelligent expression and long low set ears just finish of the head picture. Good reach of neck onto good forehand construction and nice forechest, lovely spring of rib and super depth of chest, nice strong bone and feet would have liked the tan a little clearer on the feet but acceptable. Great level topline and tail set correctly, good rear angulation with well bent stifles and hocks not to long, on the move he was stylish and went well going and coming demonstrating good positive drive and using his tail well. I was pleased to award him BOB.

2nd Munro’s, Panthera Bad Medicine Dulmaur (SHCEX) (Imp Pol). A very pretty feminine bitch, with good head proportions to suit, dark eyes and low ears set, long neck, good angulations but shoulders not so well laid back as 1 good solid flat bone but would have liked clearer tan on her feet. Plenty of spring in her ribs and good depth of chest that was not too broad. Good topline and tail set, straight hocks that were exaggerated in length by her feathering but with hands on were of good length. Moved well going away and coming in showing good drive.

3rd O’Kelly & Hancocks, Caradilis Sparks Will Fly (JW)
