Scottish Kennel Club – All Breed Championship Show
Friday 16th May 2025
Breed: Pug
Judge: Miss Karen Murphy
I want to start by thanking the Officers and Committee of the Scottish Kennel Club for inviting me to judge. It was my first time awarding tickets in my beloved breed and it was a huge honour to be asked to officiate on the day.
I want to thank my ring stewards who kept my ring running smoothly and the exhibitors who entered and showed under me. I was delighted with my entry of 74 pugs (overall entry 102).
I want to take this opportunity to say that I think that as a breed we are losing our “multum in parvo”. I feel that we are lacking bone and substance and the overall desired cobby appearance – this was apparent in both sexes.
On as positive, I am glad to report that none of the dogs exhibited showed any sign of respiratory effort.
Minor Puppy Dog (6/1)
1st Marsh’s Dynatos Marvellous Maximus – 7-month-old fawn boy, showing well for his age. He was well balanced for one so young with a level topline, which he held both standing and on the move. He was nice and cobby, well angulated throughout, with a super high tail set. He had a well worked head, with dark eyes and button ears and a good width of underjaw. He moved well in all directions.
2nd Attwood & Taylor’s Taftazini Fluffy Ruffles – another very nice youngster. This 7-month-old boy was a paler fawn and was a bit higher of the leg and longer in the body than my first-place dog. He had excellent pigment, alongside a well worked head with dark eyes, button ears and jet-black pigment. He moved very well and was very attentive to his handler.
I am sure these two will swop places many times in the ring going forward – on the day I just preferred the overall balance of my first-place dog.
3rd Ranshaw’s Conquell Curley Spencer at Reyakosa
Puppy Dog (5/1)
1st Reid’s Rhodenash Kandoo Hugieboogie – smart 10-month-old boy, with a high tail set and a level topline, which he held standing and on the move. He had a good spring of rib, good bone and was well angulated throughout. He had a well-worked head, with a good width of muzzle, button ears and dark expressive eyes. He moved well in. I was pleased to award him BPD later in the day
2nd Mitchell’s Myter Rumour Has It Cedilla – 8-month-old fawn boy; paler in coat than my first-place dog. He was very short in body and nice and cobby but was a bit higher on the leg than the dog I placed first. Had had an excellent tail set, a well worked head, good width of muzzle and excellent pigment. He moved well in all directions.
I preferred the overall balance of my first-place dog on the day.

He had a beautiful well- worked head, with dark expressive eyes and a good depth and width of muzzle. This boy was “multivum in parvo” and undoubtedly has a bright future ahead of him!
