The German Shorthaired Pointer Association 55th Championship Show
Sunday, 6th July 2025
It was a great honour to be asked to Judge at this show and I would like to thank exhibitors for the fabulous entry. The last time I judged the entry was restricted to undocked exhibits and so there were many dogs that were new to me.
A couple of general points, I found a few dogs in the younger classes with very light eyes which I hope will darken over time. Also, there were a few bitches with very narrow muzzles which did affect their appearance and I feel would affect their ability to retrieve with a soft mouth.
A number of exhibits were unplaced in the large classes, many of them were of high quality but with only five placings I had to make some hard decisions. I was looking for dogs that were unmistakeably masculine and bitches that were feminine and was able to do so in all classes, my lineups and my top winners all fitted this criterion making a perfect end to the day.
1. German Shorthaired Pointer - Baby Puppy Dog
Entries: 1 Absentees: 0
1ST 55 - Desjiem Starman of Whinchat (Mrs V S A Prior)
Both of the baby puppies were just a couple of days short of 6 months. This young man was very together on the move, a little more practice required on stacking. He had plenty of substance and bone and it was this that won him the challenge for Best Baby Puppy in Show BBPIS
2. German Shorthaired Pointer - Baby Puppy Bitch
Entries: 1 Absentees: 0
1ST 8 - Desjiem Rebel Rebel (ai) (Ms A & Mr C Brown & Filby)
Very attractive bitch, pretty head and good outline. A dark liver jacket which was short and tight. Moved steadily and happily around the ring totally unphased which was lovely to see.
3. German Shorthaired Pointer - Minor Puppy Dog
Entries: 1 Absentees: 0
1ST 6 - Humjoli Persia's Prince (Mr J & Mrs A & Miss Z & Miss S Blacker & Khan-Blacker & Khan-Blacker & Khan-Blacker)
A very pleasing head and expression on this young boy, correct dentition. He had excellent coat. In the challenge for Best Puppy Dog, I preferred the layback of shoulder and topline of this boy.
4. German Shorthaired Pointer - Puppy Dog
Entries: 2 Absentees: 1
1ST 64 - Winterwell The Card Player (ai) (Ms G Samria)
Solid liver boy, very well handled and moved out well. Attractive head and correct earset. Good depth to brisket. I would have liked a little more length to his back and less slope to his croup. Well muscle toned and very mature for his age.
5. German Shorthaired Pointer - Junior Dog
Entries: 1 Absentees: 0
1ST 17 - Seasham Show Me The Way JW (Mr L C & Miss S M Cooke & Hammond)
Although standing alone in this class, this mature young male took my breath away. From his nose to his tail he exudes quality from every angle. Loved his head and expression, he was balanced from every angle. On the move he commanded the ring with footfall that was straight and true. The side profile showed how he covered the ground effortlessly. Delighted to award him the DCC & later BOB (Best In Show)
6. German Shorthaired Pointer - Yearling Dog
Entries: 1 Absentees: 0
1ST 86 - Jomeel Pulp Fiction JW (Mr S W & Mrs R E W Webster)
Another good young male. Excellent forehand angulation, good forechest with depth to brisket. He appeared a little tense when stacked and hence he lost his topline. Great well muscled hind quarters and strong hocks. He played up a little on the move but on second try got his act together and covered the ground cleanly and true.
7. German Shorthaired Pointer - Post Graduate Dog
Entries: 3 Absentees: 0
Three differing styles of GSP in this class, all with quality.
1ST 19 - Pelenrise Blow A Gasket (Mr L & Mrs Aj Daws)
I found this boy to be balanced, at two years old he still has some maturing to do. Good head with roman nose and correct earset. Lovely forehand angulation and depth of chest. He is short coupled with a strong topline. His movement was good and he moved well on a loose lead.
2ND 63 - Sarscottah Easy Ryder at Rollenwood JW (Mrs G A Rymer)
A nice head with correct eye shape. Strong neck, shoulders well laid back, I would have liked a little more length to upper arm. Plenty of depth and nice length of rib cage, well muscled loin and nice turn of stifle. Moved well but not quite as relaxed on the move as 1
3RD 57 - Valger Tuxedo at Booton (Mr J & Mrs V Rusk)
8. German Shorthaired Pointer - Limit Dog
Entries: 9 Absentees: 1
1ST 59 - Fraulynzway Lightning Bolt JW (Mrs L & Miss H Russell)
This young male headed a very strong class, he has a very pleasing outline. Masculine head with nice shape to his muzzle, his eyes are dark and expressive, nice length to his neck into shoulders which are laid well back with a good length of upper arm. Stands on strong legs and has equally balanced hindquarters with plenty of width to his thigh and excellent muscle tone. I was pleased to award him the RCC against strong competition. RCC
2ND 5 - Keigame Hvitserk of Sparkenhoe (Mrs L Angus)
A strong masculine headpiece on this boy, his angulation was balanced and he had plenty of depth to brisket and sufficient forechest. Shorter coupled than 1 but covered the ground with a nice gait.
3RD 35 - Ceilloch Russian (Mrs D & Mr S Hill)
RES 22 - Parsonsview Showboating at Redmires (Mr K & Mrs L Delaney & Thompson)
VHC 82 - Pelenrise All Guns Blazing JW (Mrs P & Mrs H Taylor & Taylor-Morris)

A strong class headed by two workmanlike males of high quality.
Entries: 10 Absentees: 0
1ST 48 - Evagrove Exclusive (Miss E J Mellor)
Another dog that I have watched mature, he is an honest GSP, there is nothing flashy about him but he shouldn’t be overlooked. Clean in head, correct earset, a short strong neck and good angulation. His topline is level and strong being held on the move. Close up for top awards.
2ND 46 - Sh Ch Elfrindew Endrick to Valger ShCEx (Mr J R & Mrs V Mann)
A very worthy Show Champion. He has a super head and expression, long, strong neck into well laid shoulders. Nice forechest and excellent depth, strong and well muscled throughout. Good tailset, although docked it was carried level with his back. Just not moving as well as 1 today.
3RD 34 - Sh Ch Pinseeker Pep Guardiola JW (Mrs L A, Mr M & Miss K Heath & Robinson)
RES 24 - Sh Ch Jhebron Jeno via Elfrindew (M & T Dodd & Hayes)

1ST 39 - Ch Ftch Goosepoint Gloster Grebe (ai) JW (Mrs E Hinchliff)
A real gentleman, with a handsome head of good shape. Dark eyes and well-set ears. At 8 years old this dog can still move out strongly with correct footfall, he is still in excellent hard muscular condition holding his topline well. Excellent depth and spring of rib, strong loin and correct tailset. BFTIB
2ND 26 - Ch/ir Sh Ch Quintana Diamond Dust at Friarsbelle JW ShCEx OSW (Mr B Dymond)
A very smart boy, again shown in hard condition. He didn’t put a foot wrong but I preferred the length of stride of my winner. Pleasing head with strong neck leading to well laid back shoulders, plenty of forechest and depth of chest. Shorter coupled than 1, but strong topline with good tail carriage.
13. German Shorthaired Pointer - Good Citizen Dog Scheme Dog

15. German Shorthaired Pointer - Puppy Bitch
Entries: 3 Absentees: 0
Unfortunately the thunderstorm really hit whilst this class was in the ring, but all three girls handled it well.
1ST 85 - Magregor Walk of No Shame (Miss R A Waddell)
A delightful liver bitch approaching 10 months of age. Beautiful head and alert expression. Clean construction throughout, well balanced angulation, excellent coat and condition. Already well muscled and has strength in her quarters allowing to move with a free flowing gait. Delighted to award her BP (Best Puppy in Show)
2ND 68 - Winterwell Starry Night at Mylanuka (ai) (Mrs G Serpa)
Unfortunately I have no critique for this bitch as the owner didn’t stay, but I recall that she was a smaller girl than my winner, pretty head and expression. She was nicely balanced in angulation and length to body with good depth. Not quite the ground covering stride of my winner.
3RD 44 - Winterwell Monet’s Magic of Fayemm (ai) (Mr E & Mrs L Lockett)
16. German Shorthaired Pointer - Junior Bitch
Entries: 8 Absentees: 0
1ST 3 - Edelmidpoint Silhouette for Sparkenhoe (Mrs L Angus)
A super young girl of excellent construction, very feminine with dark gentle and expressive eyes. Ears well set and lying close, good neck, well angulated and good forechest. Short coupled with strong loin and level topline with nice tail run off. Great width to her thighs and well turned stifles. Won this class on her movement.
2ND 16 - Seasham Kiss Me JW (Mr L C & Miss S M Cooke & Hammond)
Litter sister to my DCC winner and many similar attributes apply. At this stage she does not have the balance of my winner and I feel she has some maturing to do.

RES 73 - Orchidstar Tick Tok (Mrs Z M Sielski)
VHC 1 - Keigame Mystique Aurora JW (Mrs C & Mr K Adams)

This solid black bitch has a beautiful head, with dark eyes and soft expression. Well laid shoulders and good ratio in her upper arm. Plenty of depth and well sprung ribs, well muscled rear quarters and well shaped feet. She drove around the ring covering the ground with ease.
2ND 3 - Edelmidpoint Silhouette for Sparkenhoe (Mrs L Angus)

A dark liver jacket on this young girl shown in excellent coat and condition. She has an elegant outline, good head, nice length to her neck and well laid shoulders. Well turned stifle and good width to her thigh, she moved out well.
2ND 74 - Pelenrise Blow Me A Kiss from Oakberrow (Mrs D & Mr S Smillie-Gray & Gray)
A more workmanlike girl, stronger in head than my winner. She had excellent muscle tone. Short coupled with strong topline and well set on full tail which was carried level with her back. Today her movement behind was a little unco-ordinated which cost her the class.
3RD 58 - Fraulynzway Hayley’s Comet (Mrs L & Miss H Russell)
19. German Shorthaired Pointer - Limit Bitch
Entries: 13 Absentees: 1
1ST 10 - Winterwell Little Itch at Karitagan (Miss K Bunker)
A really lovely feminine bitch with that “look at me demeanour”, she is alert, fit, muscled and so well balanced. Her outline was textbook. Excellent short tight coat. Moved at one with her handler around the ring, showing her qualities to the full. Delighted to award her the BCC which I was told was her crown. Very well done. BCC, RBIS & BOS
2ND 83 - Pingarypoint Puzzled at Knabynnus (Mrs C A, Mr C H, Mrs J Y & Dr C P Taylor & Thomas)
In this varied class, this girl took my eye, not a flashy style, just honest and well made, my notes say “lots to like”. Such a pretty head and expression, well set ears which are close to her head, reachy neck, balanced angulation and good bone. Deep to brisket, good ribs and strong loin, she moved steadily in tune with her handler
3RD 40 - Goosepoint Zsazsa Gabor JW (Mrs E Hinchliff)
RES 29 - Soellis Feral Beryl JW (Miss S & Mrs M Ellis)
VHC 32 - Allezweck Edessa (Mr G H & Mrs D R Gatliffe)

Entries: 11 Absentees: 2
1ST 52 - Sh Ch Winterwell Lulu Moppet to Ladyhawke JW (Mrs W A Pearson)
I have admired this girl since she was a puppy, she has that certain something. She presents a beautiful outline from the tip of her nose to her tail. Attractive head with roman nose and nice length of muzzle, ears lying close to her head. Strong neck into well laid shoulders, good forechest and plenty of depth to her brisket. Straight forelegs and well muscled hindquarters with sufficient turn to her stifle, it was a close decision in the challenge. RCC
2ND 14 - Sh Ch Seasham I Love to Boogie (Mr L C & Miss S M Cooke & Hammond)
Another attractive bitch from this kennel, slightly more refined than my winner. Her neck was strong and she has nice forehand angulation, balanced by her rear quarters. Excellent coat being short, tight and course to touch. Lovely ground covering stride moving straight out and back.
3RD 9 - Sh Ch Winterwell Thatlldo for Desjiem JW (Ms A & Mr C Brown & Filby)
RES 28 - Soellis Fancy Nancy (Miss S & Mrs M Ellis)
VHC 72 - Sh Ch Orchidstar Missing Link JW (Mrs Z M Sielski)

Entries: 6 Absentees: 2
A really lovely class of Veterans, splitting hairs with decisions here.
1ST 45 - Sh Ch Keigame Murphlette at Benrae VW (Mrs J Malin)
A good liver bitch just beginning to grey around her muzzle which to me adds a quality to the head and expression. She has a nice roman nose, well shaped eye and well set ears. Her strong neck leads to meet well laid shoulders with corresponding upper arm. Plenty of depth, strong loin and excellent topline
2ND 30 - Ch Barleyarch Dorito at Tequesta JW (Ms D Elrington)
A very attractive bitch although carrying a little weight over her shoulders today. She has a nice head and expression with dark eyes. Good straight front and sufficient hind angulation giving a nice bend to her stifle, her topline is still firm. I preferred the movement of 1
3RD 75 - Sh Ch Taftazini Honour Wynna JW (Mrs J Squire)
RES 60 - Gaia’s Novaterra vom Fraulynzway (Mrs L & Miss H Russell)
22. German Shorthaired Pointer - Special Veteran Bitch
Entries: 3 Absentees: 1
Both of these girls are a credit to their breeders being very fit and moving freely.
1ST 27 - Soellis Dirty Gertie (Miss S Ellis)
A lovely feminine head and good neck.. Slightly longer cast than 2 but her topline was held on the move and she can still cover the ground well.
2ND 79 - Benboee Bring It On (Miss Tait)
This liver and white ticked girl has a lovely overall shape, gentle expression and kind eyes.
She had a nice steady ground covering stride moving well with her handler.
23. German Shorthaired Pointer - Field Trial Bitch
Entries: 3 Absentees: 0
Lots to like about all three of these clever girls
1ST 51 - Ch Quintana Lunar Eclipse (Mr & Mrs P M Nixon)
A smart young lady of good type. Pleasing head and expression, strong neck and topline.Well balanced with excellent bone and substance. She had sufficient angulation fore and aft and was shown in nice hard condition. Covered the ground with ease with a free flowing stride.
2ND 37 - Ft Ch Goosepoint Gambler (Mrs E Hinchliff)

3RD 31 - Tequesta Happy Valley (Ms D Elrington)
24. German Shorthaired Pointer - Good Citizen Dog Scheme Bitch
Entries: 1 Absentees: 0
1ST 67 - Balvenie Fiddle Diddle (Mrs R Schoneville)
This young girl was unplaced in a very strong Junior Bitch class, but she does have quality, just lacking the maturity of the winners in that class. She has a very pretty well shaped head, and well set ears. Nice depth and length of ribs, excellent width to her thighs and short strong hocks. Shown in lovely coat and condition.
