Best Special Beginner :
Thank you to my stewards for the day and to the sporting manner in which my decisions were accepted.
In general the breed isn’t in a great state, to quote William Kendrick an American judge of the 1970s, and holds true today. “Let it not be forgotten that the standard weight for a Welsh Terrier exceeds the standard weight for a fox terrier by two pounds. Yet the standard height for a Welsh is one half inch less at the shoulder than a fox terrier. It can be seen, therefore that a Welsh of true type must carry considerable bulk. Ample bone and big rib cages with flat skulls of reasonable width and correct Welsh ears cannot go with Shelly bodies, legginess and narrow skulls with over done long forefaces”
Many lacked substance and bone as the words above elude to we are at risk of losing type and quality. Please be braver with your trimming too many looked shabby which is a great let down to your dogs. I know it takes time but the effort can be worth it. Remember the coat will grow back.
PD. (2,1)
1st: Avveduti’s Cunnings Arlecchino an impressive youngster full of attitude and on his tippy toes. A well balanced smart dog, good head piece well proportioned with V Shaped ear well set on. Flat skull with correct set eye, flows through his clean neck and well laid shoulder with his brisket to the elbow, straight forearm with cat like feet. Well bodied for his age and a rear construction with a good bend of stifle. Well let down. Tail well set on with a bum behind it. Presented and shown in top order. Rich red colour and charcoal black. Went on to get Puppy. Group 2.
JD (2,1)
1st: Williams’ Tillmonts Rocket Man. A really smart boy who has continued to mature well. A well balance head with an alert eye and well set on V shaped ears, lying close to the eye. Correct skull. Powerful neck and well carried from a well laid shoulder, and clean forehand. Strong topline and well set on tail. Full of attitude on the move that handler needs to learn how to harness to get the best out of him when needed. Super presentation and a good harsh coat texture.
PGD (2)
1st: Nitka’s Omar Vom Granitfelsen. A real workmanlike boy who has nothing wrong with and would benefit from some of the previous class winner’s la Joie de vivre. Masculine head and expression, with a well set ear. Straight forearm and tight feet, would like his elbow a little tighter to his chest. A well made rear well Lee down and really drives from behind. Would benefit from slightly sharper presentation and finish.
2nd : Bennett & Innes’ Jodean Commando At Bolhaus. A square boy with a well set on tail. Good head and ear and well set eye. Good depth of brisket to the elbow. Good harsh jacket and good colour. Well let down behind, a little wide in front coming towards you and not the drive from behind of winner.
LD (2,1)
1st: Plumbly’s Bolhaus Sedbergh Scholar. An honest type with a well set on tail and well let down behind. Clean forehand. Good level to topline. Skull a little broad and a little out of balance with the muzzle. Well set on ear. Another that would benefit from some sharper presentation.
OD (3,1)
1st: Cole’s Ch Perrisblu The Phantom. A quality dog commands the ring with his presence. A good strong masculine head without being overdone. Clean skull and ear well set on, clean neck and well laid shoulder in to a well made front, correct bone and catlike feet. Well spring rib and good strong loin. Strong topline with tail Weill set on, Gothic arch behind and good short hock. A real mover, true both ways. Presentation excellent, harsh coat texture and a good deep Black and Tan.
2nd: Hughes & Smeets’ Ned Ch, Multi Ch Knowlelion Real Deal. Another good honest dog, straight forearm and catlike feet. Well boned. Good depth of brisket to the elbow and well sprung rib. Good head and ear, just lacking some furnishing on his nose. Clean neck and shoulder and good topline with a well set on tail. Would ideally like a little more angulation behind. Moved well enough.
VD (1)
1st: Humphries’ Breuddwyd Mam. 11 years old now and showing no signs of giving up on the move, covering the ground with ease. A sturdy square body, with a good depth of brisket. Straight forearm and tight feet.
PB (2)
1st: O'Connell’s Letoha Maid In Italy. Maturer bitch to 2nd. Feminine head and expression god v shaped ear well set on. Square, balanced proportions with a level topline and well bodied. Straight forearm with tight feet. Good depth of brisket to elbow into a well constructed rear end. Moved well enough.
2nd: Spragg’s Westpenn Sweet Little Angel. Whilst a few months younger I think this one needs to grow on, but still has time on her side. Full of attitude which I’ve come to expect from this line. Lovely clean forehand. Good bone and feet. Well set on tail support by a good spring of rib. And strong loin. Just tends to pull into her shoulders on the move at the moment which alters the head carriage.
PGB (2,1)
1st: Bennett & Innes’ Bolhaus Royal Riot. I’d like a little of this bitch all through. Feminine head and expression, ear set and eye. Forearm straight, with correct feet. A good depth of brisket and strong loin. Level topline and well set on tail and carriage. Would like to a little more animation on the move and a more drive.
LB (3)
1st: Cole’s Perrisblu Queen Of Dreams. Really comes into herself on the move, pulls into a well balance shape with a level topline and tailset well on, with some bum behind the tail. Feomine head and expression plenty of substance without coarseness. Flat skull with a well set on V shaped ears and correct leathers. Good clean neck and shoulders into straight forearm with bone and catlike feet. Well bodied with a spring of rib and strong loin. Another quality exhibit of substance from this kennel. Presentation in top order and correct harsh coat and rich deep colour.
2nd: Allen’s Monaline Emma At Penparc (Imp Serb). A different type of bitch a little more rangy than 1st. Well made bitch with substance. Good head with a powerful jaw. Correct proportions between tip of nose, stop and skull. Good dark pigmentation. Er set well on-her flat skull. Straight forearm and good feet. Good depth of brisket, however I’d like a little more width in chest. Well ribbed back and strong loin. Strong level topline and well set on tail. A bum behind and a well let down rear construction. Moved out well from behind.
3rd: Watkin-Jones’ Westpenn Just For You
VB (1)
1st Watkin-Jones’ Llanisbury Little Blossom Of The Sky. Feminine bitch, with a kind eye. Clean neck and straight forearm. Topline ok when stood. Has a rump behind the tail. Lacked attitude on the move compared to Vet. Dog.
