May I start by wishing the original judge, Ms Muriel Grantmyre, a speedy recovery. I would also like to thank my two Stewards who kept things flowing. It certainly was an odd start to my day, as we had been on the road to the show for approx. 30 minutes, with my two bitches, when I received a call asking if I could step in as a replacement judge. In all my 60 years this has never happened to me before. I would like to thank the Committee for the invite and must admit my main concern was that I was in exhibitor attire and not my usual judges suit. I would also like to thank those of you who accepted my placing with grace, and to those who chose to ‘withdraw’, you must realise you cut your nose off to spite your face, your loss not mine. For those exhibitors whose dogs I had handled during the last 12 months, I apologise, as obviously you were unable to exhibit under me, due to KC rules.

Since my last judging appointment I found some improvements in rear movement, but sadly a definite deterioration in front assembly/movement. I also sadly saw a couple of bostons showing signs of divergent strabismus, which obviously spoils the true boston expression.

On a positive note there are some beautiful young bitches at present.

1ST 58 - Demorace Atmospheric (Mrs D Rodaway) – This is one very smart clean cut youngster, who shows so much promise. He is just out of puppy and is finding his way through life with a shy attitude, which I hope improves over time as he has much to offer. My initial thoughts were one of nice size, good bone, clean and elegant outlines, and whilst still having a lot of maturing to do, the basics are in place, so square in all aspects, lovely square clean head, nice ears, lovely eye, enough padding, nice length of neck and tidy front. Tight feet, bone, just starting to develop in rib, level topline, and good quarters with nice turn of stifle, moved well when he settled to the job. One I shall watch with interest.

2ND 76 - Whiskyagogo Big Smile at Jayneze (Miss J Winrow). All male, mahogany in colour, nine months old with a Strong square head, ears need to settle, body is short and compact, with sturdy quarters, good spring of ribs, would prefer a tidier topline, moved ok for a baby.

2ND 41 - Ridgeway Rambler (Mr & Mrs M Hounslow). More elegant male than 1st, with a lot to like. Clean square head, nice ears and expression, Tidy front with enough width, good quarters with nice turn of stifle. Would prefer a more settled movement, as he insisted on playing up for his handler.

1ST 36 - Prince Ali Konfident Step to Bosties (Imp Ukr) (Ms C Grange) . One I have admired from the ringside and was not disappointed. A smaller mahogany fully marked male, in gleaming condition, with so much to like. He has a beautiful head and true expression, with the neatest ears set on top of his head, enough length of neck and width to his tidy front. Good bone, and feet, well sprung rib and lovely level topline, which he keeps when on the move, strong quarters with correct turn of stifle. When he settled on the move, he covered the ground soundly. Was pleased to award him the CC

2ND 45 - Ch Chelmbull Return of The Mac at Nerros (Mr P & Mrs N & Miss M Keenan) A worthy champion who, as always from this kennel was beautifully presented and shown. An ultra smart boy with a square head, nice eye, not quite the padding as winner, square in profile, good bone, feet, front, compact body, with level topline and set onto tail, nice quarters but had a tendency to overstretch, today he tended to crab slightly on the move. RDCC
