Richmond Championship Dog Show 6 September 2025    Basset Hounds

Firstly thank you to the Richmond Championship Dog Show Committee for inviting me to judge at the show. I would also like to thank my two stewards Janet and Sophie who were so very professional and kept the ring running smoothly. I had a super entry and thank all of the exhibitors for entering under me some had come an awful long way. It is an honour to go over your lovely bassets.

VD (2) 1 Allchorne Nelgus Thyme Bomb JW ShCEx 9 year old tri who belies his age. He has a handsome head with dark eyes. Good reach of neck and lay back of shoulder and correct ribbing. Very well balanced and movement was true fore and aft. A credit to his owner BV

2 Hirst Diheath Really Cosmic At Kejana 8 year old tri unlucky to meet one on sparking form, another one I really liked and all of the above applies, just preferred the movement on 1.

MPD (1) Melbourne & Murray Diheath Cracker What a lovely puppy! 8 months a lovely head with the darkest of eyes. Good reach of neck and shoulder placement smooth ribs and bend of stifle. He just needs to mature but pleased to award him BPD and BP

PD (2) McNamara Burnvale Echoes and Shadows. Another lovely puppy! 11 month black blanket mature for his age lovely head and leathers decent front good lay back of shoulders, level top line and good tail carriage. Moved freely.

2 Lane Goldenessence Deep Impact Over Lanebern (Imp) Port 9 month old black blanket. All of the above applies just lacked the maturity of 1.

JD (1) Parkes Besslin Mad Hatter Another lovely 17 month black blanket. A lovely masculine head with dark eyes, reach of neck and lay back of shoulder correct. Level top line and ribs long and smooth. Moved well but did not carry his tail.

PGD (3) (1a) Jones Clanwillow Fire and Ice 19 month Tri boy another one with a masculine head, well set ears, good front, lay back of shoulder and smooth ribs. Level top line. Moved with purpose and drive.

2 Melbourne & Murray Diheath Chekov 2 I thought this would be my winner but carrying too much weight over the shoulders which made his neck look stuffy. However he is a lovely 2 year old boy with the most masculine head and a lovely soft expression and soft supple ears. Lovely tight feet, level topline, good bend of stifle and tail set correct. Moved well. I really loved him!

LD (3) A difficult class to judge. 1 Rodgers & Ceriati Switherland Mack the Knife What a quality 2 year old hound very balanced with a super front and prominent sternum lovely head with such a soft expression. Correct lay back of shoulder, super smooth ribs and level top line and good bend of stifle. Moved okay but slightly wide.

2 Gambling Dizandra Carpe Noctem This flashy 2 year old boy caught my eye Good head and reach of neck.. Pleasing expression. Good front and prominent sternum.. Ribs okay good tail set. Movement could have been better.

3 Allchorne Nelgus Golden Nugget

OD (9) (2a) What a class I was spoilt for choice. 1 Blevins Ch & Ir Ch Int Ch Blevwil Kenny Dewitt Cen JW, Cen I have admired this 3 year old boy from the ring side and he didn't disappoint beautiful handsome head with the darkest of eyes. Lovely long leathers and super front with prominent sternum. Correct lay back of shoulder and level top line with a super smooth rib cage. Great bend of stifle. Moved so true with purpose and drive. Pulled out all the stops to win this high quality class. Pleased to award the CC It was hard decision between him and the bitch for best of breed!

2 Cudlip Woferlow Eclipse at Harvidene I did think he would be my winner today but 1 had the edge on movement. It was a very close decision and I thought very hard between the two. Again I have watched this almost 3 year old boy from the ring side and have admired him. All of the above applies to this boy just unlucky to meet 1 in top form. RCC

3 Rodgers Ch Switherland Bazooka

SBD (1) Cooper Houndsbay Vito Andoli Tri 3 year old boy Overall a decent boy, masculine head with okay front., good reach of neck, smooth ribs, tended to tuck up when stacked. Okay movement would prefer a bit more drive. BSB

MPB (3) 1 Jones Clanwillow Kiss the Girl Red and white 8 month girl with a lovely head and soft expression. Super reach of neck and decent front with tight feet. Level top line and good bend of stifle. Moved so very week just needs to mature. BPB

2 Hirst Diheath Tinsel at Kejana I really liked this little 9 month old girl but preferred the movement off 1 but it was a very close decision. She had the edge on maturity and again had a lovely head with the darkest of eyes. Good reach of neck and shoulders, level topl ine and bend of stifle super apple bottom. Movement okay.

3 Parkes Beassalin Well I Never

PB (1) Johnston Burnvale Echoes And Dreams Another lovely 11 month old puppy but let down on movement Red and White with so much to like about her. A beautiful head with a melting expression, good front with prominent sternum and good lay back of shoulder. Level topline and good tail set Just would not carry her tail. Shame!

JB (1) Parkes Bessalin White Rabbit Another lovely red and white 17 months old girl really liked her. A very feminine head with long leathers, good reach of neck and shoulder placement, smooth ribs and level top line. Movement okay just needs a little more confidence.

YB(1) Pearson Amazing White A Story With A Tail At Armadio (imp) A very striking red and white 1 year old bitch she has the most lovely feminine head with soft expression, supple leathers and good lay back of shoulder. Good bend of stifle , topline needs to settle when stacked but okay on the move. Moved with purpose and drive.

PGB (4) Murray, Melbourne & Fitzpatrick Diheath Marta I really liked this little 2 year old red and white girl. A lovely feminine head with dark eyes. Super tight feet and good lay back of shoulder. Level top line and really good bend of stifle. Moved true fore and aft.

2 Gray Sort Legs Reijvi Light Up the Sky At Bassoto (imp) Red & White 2 year old girl who again was very feminine lovely dark eyes and long leathers.. Really good reach of neck and shoulder placement good. Level top line, she moved so very true.

3 Parkes Bessalin Aint Miss Behaving

LB (6) A super class I was spoilt for choice! I was really clutching at straws between the first two

. 1 Freer Switherland Whoopie Pie A lovely 5 year old bitch from this kennel Red and white with the most beautiful head and dark eyes. Super front with prominent sternum , good reach of neck and lay back of shoulder, ribs smooth and reaching back, good bend of stifle. Moved so very well to win the class.

2 Cudlip Harvidene Queen Of Diamonds Loved this nearly 2 year old bitch she is just so feminine. Really good front and neck, good shoulder placement, level top line, tail carried correctly, moved with purpose and drive

OB (6) (2a) A lovely class all worthy winners.

1 Blevins Ch & Ir Ch Blevwil Ivana Twinkle Jun Ch My star of the day I just love this bitch. I see her mother was the CC winner the last time I judged and I can see why. A 3 year old tri bitch who was in tip top condition, the most beautiful feminine head with soft expression, front correct, neck good and super shoulder placement, good bend of stifle, tail set correct, she was presented immaculately and just flowed round the ring with her young handler. She pulled out all the stops to beat her brother to best of breed. BCC & BOB

2 Rodgers Ch Switherland Beretta A very worthy champion. Another lovely 2 year old bitch. She has a lovely head with dark eyes and good front and reach of neck, good shoulders and smooth ribs, top line good and good bend of stifle Moved with reach and drive. A worthy RCC
