Breed: Hound Group
Hound Group It was an honour to be asked by the Committee of WELKS to judge the Hound Group in the wonderful setting of the Malvern Hills and thank them for their very kind invitation and wonderful welcome; a very large ring was laid out beautifully for the BOB winners of the day to be able to show off their many qualities. 22 superb and lovely dogs did not disappoint, & for further consideration I selected the .Afghan Hound, Basenji, Basset Fauve de Bretagne, Basset Griffon Vendeen (Petit), Borzoi, Std S/H Dachshund, Greyhound, Rhodesian Ridgeback, Saluki, Whippet and almost anyone of these could have easily taken the highest of awards, as could some of those not short-listed today, testament to the quality of Breed judging here today. A final go around to display their overall balance, style and movement; Group 1 was awarded to Ch Priorpark Poetry In Motion JW (Rhodesian Ridgeback) so aptly named she was full of breed type, she had the carriage and symmetrical outline defined by her breed and looked as though she could carry on all day, her coat gleamed with condition, her musculature hard & clean as a whistle not putting a foot out of place she covered the ring size with ease & accuracy. Group 2 Ch Dyfrgi’s Explosion W With Soletrader (Basset Fauve de Bretagne) captivating & lively & on the stack looked so breed typical with his rough dense coat & a most wonderful expression, good front, depth & ribs, using his super construction to great advantage here just powering around the ring with absolute ease, quite the star. Group 3 Ch/Int.Ch Lux/Nld Ch Popovs Aladdin at Sarakhan (imp NLD) JW (Afghan Hound) displaying all the qualities of this superb breed, looking at and through me with defiance & aloofness, no exaggerations, nice & square angled outline in profile, ringed tail, he displayed a style of high order on the move with a very nice smooth and springy action, immaculate coat & condition. Group 4 Ir. Ch Glenariff You’re Excused Cwmdarhian, sleek & impressive male with lovely conical head sloping gradually, superb expression, scissor bite, very good forechest, strong ribcage extending well back, good shoulder set & upper arm set off his front well, great for balance & topline, broad strong quarters, on the move he displayed a very free flowing action & sound towards & away, superb condition & gleaming coat.
