I thoroughly enjoyed awarding my second set of challenge certificates in Pointers at Leeds Championship Dog Show. I thought bitches were significantly stronger than males. Tail carriage and use was mixed, which is such a distinguishing feature and was disappointing. Upper arms of the correct length of angle were rare. I found heads mixed with some plainer or less typical heads. Temperaments were excellent, there was a wonderful supporting atmosphere throughout the entry – which made the experience all the more enjoyable.

1. Clinton’s Sonham Just Over The Moon at Oramiss (AI). 12 month old b/w male, good size, correct oval bone and oval feet, good condition, lovely attitude, tail carriage a touch high for my preference, correct coat and well marked, pasterns sloped slightly, much to like, moved ok but needs to settle to get a good pace, BSpB.
2. Hall’s Jilony Columbo at Dalhallpals. 3 year old exhibit, a little unsettled today which was a shame, scores in rib, bone and size, is balanced fore and rear and has a good undercarriage, would just prefer a little more depth, moved well and was sound coming and going, lovely rapport with handler and I hope they are encouraged to continue their journey.

1. Scotland’s Daledancer Victor Mcdade. 6 month old puppy dog, stood alone but really appealed, good size and shape, lovely body, nothing overdone, correct oval bone and oval feet, much to like in head with a slightly concave muzzle and pronounced occiput. Moved well, just needs to settle, one to watch with much interest, put on a good show.

1. Booth/Oddie’s Lundgarth Fly The Flag. 9 month old chap who doesn’t help himself on the stack but when it comes together there are glimpses of real quality, nothing overdone, his head really appealed, shoulders well back, short loin, adequate width at the front, moved well, just need to settle a little more but much to like and time will be his friend.

1. Wilkinson’s Stocksfell Soloflight. Junior dog, just right size and height for age, much to like, would prefer more angle to his upper arm and for him to relax his top-line on the stack because when he moves his outline is classic and typical, good depth, ribs well back and good width to first and second thigh, super head that I couldn’t resist and would happily admire at home.
2. Matthews’ Sonham Just The Ticket (AI). A rangier male, shown in first class condition and not putting a foot wrong, longer in body than 1 but not incorrect, he scores in balance fore and rear, with moderately bent pasterns, his upper arm has length and angle and his shoulders are well sloping, more moderate in head than one and that cost him today in a tough class.
3. Pearson’s Ladyhawke Desert Orchid.

1. Matthews’ Sonham Just The Ticket (AI). 2nd in JD.
2. Clinton’s Hawkfield Happy Feet at Oramiss JW. Masculine in head, correct oval bone and oval feet, really hard muscular condition, long neck and good ear set and shape, much to like on the stack, not as coordinated on the move today but he is balanced to the fore and rear, has a lovely attitude and at times holds himself well, perhaps a little more confidence would give him that competitive edge.
3. Walton’s Meadowpoint Jack O’Lantern at Pointmoor.

1. Webster’s Joneva Just Goes To Show at Errytar. Caught my eye immediately, lovely type and size, scores in top-line, ribs well back but a little long in loin for me, liked his head and showed very well, his curves flowed without being overdone in anyway, oval bone and feet and a good depth, settled enough on the move, one to watch as he progresses, it was a challenging class to sort through but he very much appealed, thought he was real quality.
2. Bell’s Deville’s Advocate at Owlspoint (AI). Plainer in head than 1 and today was not his day on the move where he was a little less than amused, really liked his bone and size, super depth and lovely construction to the fore, top-line when he settles is correct, shown in super hard condition and is a credit to his owner.
3. License’s Freebreeze Virtual Reality of Arrowmere.

1. Watkins’ Lakewinds Benchmark (imp AUS). Beautifully presented and handled, lovely size and substance, good angles both sides with well bent stifles, scores in forechest and has a super neck, pleasing head, really made use of the extensive ring and moved with soundness and style, lots of curves and a masculine but correct head too. He is challenge certificate worthy and I am sure his day will come.
2. Wardle/Newby’s Whipspan Tango With Me. An upstanding rangier chap, has a tendency to roach his top-line, scores in rib and has lovely tight oval feet and correct bone, super colour and coat and had a lovely relaxed manner, a pleasure to assess and judge with the kindest eye.
3. Hall’s Jilony Columbo at Dalhallpals.

1. Adams’ Sh Ch. Carofel Wings of Hope JW ww23 Swiss JrCh. Wasn’t settled to start with but got better as the class went on, he is balanced, and not overdone with lovely top-line, super condition, lovely long lean head which is masculine and typical with pronounced occiput, oval feet, today he topped this class on this drive and determination on the move, he was later the stand out winner for the challenge certificate, DCC.
2. Bond’s Sh Ch. Joneva Just My Style. This was my class winner at the outset, he has substance that many lacked and really scores in body, his condition his hard and I was convinced he could do a day’s work, lovely shoulder and well bent stifles, he oozed type and quality, today was not his day on the move and he gave way to the more enthusiastic exhibit. Pleased to award him the RDCC.
3. Ram’s Jilony Brown Velvet.

1. Anderson Rowell’s Daledancer Frances Mullen. 6 month old b/w puppy bitch, very feminine and raw, lovely rib, good tail set, nice head with a little work still to come, on the move when she settled she was sound and appealing with a lovely top-line, great to see her so enjoying her day.

1. Booth’s Lundgarth Ticket To Fly. Feminine lady with the most gentle of temperaments, quite lovely on the stack and settled on the move, had an air of aristocracy about her, she is balanced fore and rear with correct bone, I liked her size for her age and scores in neck, not overdone, lovely type and a pleasure to judge, sorry that she stood alone, BP.

1. Wilkinson’s Ferndel Sapphire Mist over Stocksfell. The first exhibit of the day that I got really excited about, typy bitch of correct size, lovely tail set, carriage and use, substance without heaviness and most of all a series of curves with nothing overdone, she has depth and balance with ribs well back and a forechest and upper arm that many would envy, her head is typical but not overdone, crucially I thought she was right for age, RBCC.
2. Matthews’ Sonham Just A Pretty Belle JW (AI). Not to be outdone this bitch is rangier but not in any way incorrect, very feminine and a little more aloof than one but nothing to criticise, she was very unlucky to meet one in such good condition, she had femininity in abundance, super coat and moved very well around the big ring, much to like and another to watch.
3. Fox/Stilgoe’s Teisgol Rose Campion.
YB 3(0)
1. Gates’ Sharnphilly Dizzy Blonde at Linosa. Unassuming bitch but so much to like, she would benefit from more impulsion and enthusiasm but she was curvy with a lovely pretty head, expression and oval bone, liked her for size and substance and in outline, lovely top-line and moved typically and soundly.
2. Fox/Stilgoe’s Teisgol Rose Campion. Liked this bitch who was also third in the last class, much to like, just not as settled in top-line, scores in front assembly with well bent stifles to match on the move, she is freely flowing and sound, would like a little concave shape to her muzzle to complete the picture.
3. Matthews’ Sonham Just Good Friends (AI).
PGB 5(1)
1. Anthony’s Jilony Zelda. Honest bitch, balanced with lovely angles, good upper arm, lovely body and bone, super top-line, quality throughout and didn’t disappoint in any respect, doesn’t have the ‘look at me’ attitude of others, she was pushed by 2 all the way today but I preferred the head on the winner which was as expected with a slightly concave muzzle and balanced in proportions.
2. Booth’s Lundgarth Jubilee JW. Ultra feminine bitch on the more petite side but I liked her on the stack, she really appealed and didn’t disappoint on the move, I would just prefer more work in her head but she has time on her side, and I suspect it will serve her well.
3. Nelis’ Freebreeze Special Effects JW.
LB 7(2)
Super class, the first two will not doubt gain their titles with ease.
1. Adams’ Joneva Just One Wish. Classy bitch that I haven’t seen before, she was a touch lacklustre on the move but otherwise so very much to like, can stand looking a little ordinary but when she engages she shows off her curves and has the most super outline, I adore her top-line, thought she was feminine with correct bone and the sweetest of nature, oozed quality and I suspect she has more to come.
2. Moss’ Davigdor Poppies. A puppy last time I judged and I am thrilled to see she has fulfilled her early promise, today she was over stimulated on the move and it cost her the class which is a shame as I adored her then and adored her now, I hope to see her again and wish them both well, I suspect that these two swap places many times and I wish them both the best. She scores in balance and has a super forechest, a nice size but with substance, once she settles she’ll challenge the best.
3. Booth’s Lundgarth Everest JW.
OB 4(2)
1. Siddle/Medeir’s Sh Ch. Wilchrimane Frankly Darlin. This bitch showed and was handled to perfection, she scores in body and forechest and lovely long neck, super upper arm, settled top-line, correct oval bone, like her for size, stifles well bent and moved calmly, soundly and efficiently around the ring, she was a joy to handle, BCC & BOB.
2. Blackburn-Bennett/Macara’s Sh Ch. Kanix Sooty at Stargang. Different type to one but very little to dislike, she is of super size, great hard condition and was a series of graceful curves, another that scores in front assembly, perhaps not quite the attitude of one which cost her today, however she pushed one all the way and it was a joy to see them stand and move together.
