Driffield Championship Dog Show

Breed: Breeders Competition Hounds & Utility

Driffield Championship show Sunday 24th August 2025 – Held at Wetherby Racecourse.

This year, the show was blessed with good weather ranging from hot sunshine to a little drizzle and light wind. A new layout with in and out rings and much much-appreciated benching it all worked very well. Congratulations to the show and the committee who worked so hard before and after.

At this show, I had the pleasure of judging the Breeders Competitions for hounds and utility breeds.

Hound’s from the entry 9 – 4abs

Judging the breeders’ competition was not an easy task, as I liked them all and, on another occasion, they would be in different places

1. McAlpines – Deerhounds – A pleasing trio, all in good coat and even temperament, with a range of ages. A reasonable depth and width to chest across all. On the move, they were in complete unison, matching each other for stride.

2. Dunsdon – Basenji – Very smart team, and 2 of the team were litter sisters. All were red and white with very similar markings. On the move, not all were settled when moving together.

3. Middleton – Basset Bleu De Gascogne – A distinct breed with a good mix of 3 bitches and 1 dog, all closely related, you could see how they are developing within the breed.

4. Webster – Rhodesian Ridgeback – A lovely team, very clean in outline with high set ears framing their face, bright eyes, dark and expressive with black pigmentation.

5. Allenby – Basset Fauve De Bretage – What characters this team was. A good age range and coats were in respectable order. On the move, they were lively and friendly. Some may say naughty.

Utility from the entry 5 – 2abs

1. Chance & Dodds – Dalmatians – They were very much of a type 2 bitches and 1 dog, all liver and white. Once settled, together gave a good show of themselves. Moving without effort in unison.

2. Roberts – Lhasa Apso – A lovely matching team of Black and White who could easily have won this group. They moved very well together well schooled for the task. Well done.

3. Wright – Xoloitzuintie – This trio was made up of 2 dogs and a young girl just out of puppy. She was a little unsettled and needed a little more time although the boys settled well. There shape was well balanced and of a type. They moved nicely together.
