Midlands & Northern Rhodesian Ridgeback Club
Midland and Northern Rhodesian Ridgeback Club on Sunday 20th April 2025 held their Championship and Open Shows at Oakridge Arena, Collingham nr Newark.
Thank you to the officers and committee for a wonderful day spent judging your precious hounds. The warmth from the committee and exhibitors was very welcome, which made my job so much easier and relaxed. I take my hat off to your newly appointed secretary; you had an enormous task. A huge thank you to my two stewards, Yvonne and Paul Bullivant, who were very proficient in their jobs.

1ST - Kwanza El Faiyum at Matikiridge (Imp Nld) (Mrs N Hurn) – This young boy was more together with ample bone. Super masculine head correctly set ears framing face. His chest was well filled, and his ribs were nicely sprung, reaching well back. He moved with ease. The future is bright for this young man. 2ND - Misingi Hares N'graces (Miss N F Furnell) – with just a few weeks between these two, the difference is plain to see how raw he was. Saying that he had an appealing masculine head with harmonising eyes, he had an ample chest in front, but needed to develop in depth. His tail was set very well and held on the move.

1st - Priorpark William Wallace for Clanbruachan (Mrs N Jolly) – He has a flat skull with enough stop to the darkest of eyes, with black pigmentation and wide-open nostrils. Strength in muscular neck and firm topline. Plenty of strong bones to legs down to tight feet. Well-filled chest and clean underline, loins flexible and strong. His hind legs were muscular with a good turn of stifle and hocks well let down. He moved with power and drive. A bright future. 2nd - Carlincox Knock Em Out (Mr C, Mrs L & Mrs V Cox, Cox & Musgrave) – A close decision between these two youngsters at a similar developmental stage. He is slightly broader in skull at the moment. His chest is nicely developed, just needing his ribs to spring a little more. His topline was firm and muscular, finished with a well-set tail. On the move, his happy temperament got the better of his handler. 3RD - Dukuza Mr Day Dream and Ilizulu (Miss S & Mrs G Abbaszadeh & Hanson)

He was rather a handful today.

1ST Msingi Fancy That at Cynami (Mr L & Mrs C L Hall) – Feminine 8.5 mth old red bitch full of elegance. She had clean, flowing lines. Long neck into well-laid shoulders through to strong, straight forelegs. Her chest was well filled; her ribs were almost to her elbows, where I would expect them to be for her age. She had a strong topline with clear ridge and crowns, ample loin area that was flexible and muscular. Her balance of height to length was just right. Lovely width to thigh and turn of stifle, strong hocks and feet that were compact and well-arched toes. On the move, she was fluid and free. 2ND - Africaner Zavanna Breeze (Mr J & Mrs C & Miss E Mackfall & Mackfall & Mcintosh) – another appealing youngster full of femininity, her skull had enough breath and length of muzzle, dark eyes which were bright with an intelligent expression. She is of good height with ample bone and decent well well-knuckled feet. An appropriate length of neck into a well-placed shoulder. Her depth of rib needs a little more time. Her underline was clean with sufficient tuck-up. She had nicely developed hind legs with clean, smooth muscles and well let-down hocks. On the move, she carried her tail well. 3RD - Africaner Pasadena (Mrs G Craven)

Appropriate depth and spring of rib carried through to strong loin and super quarters with good width to second thigh. She moved soundly, straight and free. BPB, BPIS. 2ND - Africaner Zavanna Breeze (Mr J & Mrs C & Miss E Mackfall & Mackfall & Mcintosh) – see notes from MP. 3RD - Zejak Tazara (Mrs Z & Mr C Phillips)

On the move, she drove with power. 2ND - Carlincox Don’t Knock It (Mr C & Mrs L & Mrs V Cox & Cox & Musgrave) – Only just out of puppy, which showed in her general demure. I believe she will develop slowly and do very well; all the building blocks are there for her. She was full of femininity with beautiful, dark eyes with the gentlest of expressions. Her bone was plentiful and straight, with some of the best feet compact and knuckled. Her chest was suitably filled, ribs reached to her elbows, and plenty of spring. 1ST - Sonstraal Blue Moon (Miss S Rossiter) – This liver nosed girl had been here before, she was so mature in her outlook and in super condition. Her hazel eyes were most appealing with a gentle expression. Her forechest was well filled, complemented with equally sprung ribs. Her topline was firm and held well, with a very clean ridge and crowns. On the move, she was powerful with good drive and carried her tail at a correct height. 2ND - Priorpark Pucker Up for Rumialana (Mrs H Nolan) – This class was a close call. 2yr young lady who is also a liver lost out on maturity, although she had plenty of qualities to admire. Her underline could be a little more tucked up, slightly longer in loin. She had ample bone and tight feet with spring at pastern. Her depth of thigh and developed muscles were a credit as she drove around the ring with plenty of reach. 3RD - Priorpark Pride and Joy to Nzuri (Mrs L & Miss S & Mr J & Miss H Mills & Mills & Mills & Parsons)

She moved with purpose. 2ND - Negasi Elberith for Clanbruachan JW (Mrs N Jolly) – This young lady had a darker muzzle and well pigmented eyes and lips, her ear placement was slightly too high for me. Rhodesian Ridgeback - Open Bitch

1ST - Priorpark Proof in Pudding JW (Miss H Parsons) – At 17 months, this young girl has a very bright future. Full of breed qualities balanced throughout, which showed on the move. She was feminine with muscle, but not overdone. She was clean flowing from her head through her neck, firm topline with well-formed crowns and ridge. Her chest was filled, and her ribs had ample spring to them. If nitpicking, I would like slightly tighter feet, but she moved with strength and freedom. I was pleased to award her BB today. 2ND - Kazembe Orla 'bout Me (Mrs N & Mr A Webster) – I was really splitting hairs between these two fine examples. Beautiful, balanced, and well developed. A dark wheaten, her dark hazel eyes and black nose complemented each other. Her chest was full, and her ribs were well developed. Her loin was strong and flexible, and her thighs had ample width and definition. I found it hard to split these 2 girls and had to give her RBB. 3RD - Carlincox Jerseyroyal JW (Mr C & Mrs L & Mrs V Cox & Cox & Musgrave)
19. Rhodesian Ridgeback - Veteran Bitch

1ST 58 - Priorpark Pipsicle (Miss H Parsons) – Not much in age between these 2 girls. This young lady is full of substance with the bone to match. Her light wheaten colour was clean and even. Her head and expression were bright and sparkling, but dignified and aloof. Her shoulders were carefully laid with straight bone. Her feet were not her fortune, and at times a little over-angulated. Overall, she pleased me enough to award her Veteran Bitch and Best Veteran in Show. 2ND - Mutoko's Blaze of Glory (Mrs P Nash) – Just weeks between them, and both are only just in veteran. This young lady had good balance, lovely outline, pleasing head and expression, quality bone, good depth of chest and correct topline. I was pleased with her on the move.3RD - Nuthouse Queen of Clubs JW (Mr J & Mrs S Hicks)
