I would like to thank the committee of the United Retriever Club for inviting me to judge at their championship show, an appointment I had been looking forward for some time. The weather was perfect, rings were large, and I was blessed with the very capable Nadine Barber and Federica Biden supervising my ring for me, all I had to do was enjoy going over this top quality entry. I had many really super bitches, lovely puppies going through different stages of their development, all of my class winners were out of the top drawer, a couple of points that struck me, firstly quite a few light eyes, and low tail sets. Also a number of exhibits had tails trailing well below the hock, some of course were the correct length when I felt but they hadn’t been trimmed to advantage, the tail should reach the hock, not travel well past it! it makes them look so short on the leg if the tail is left too long. Quite a few outstanding bitches were either throwing or not back into coat, hardly surprising taking into account the recent heatwaves we have had, sadly this cost them higher placings which in full coat they would take with ease. I was delighted to see my Bitch ticket winner Multi Ch LINWOOD HYPNOTIZER represent our breed in the big ring and take BEST IN SHOW, well done to her. The Bitch RCC winner, our Reserve Best of Breed was called for to challenge for RBIS but after a wait it was concluded she had left the showground which was a pity, but the breed still did well. The Golden Retriever best puppy LOUELLABROOK ATLANTIC STAR WITH SANSUE went straight to the Top Spot of BPIS what a cracker he is, our best veteran the bitch Sh Ch QUAKERHALL PANDORA’S BOUNTY JW still had plenty to give and was reserve best veteran in show and the best special beginners in breed, the bitch ASTLEYFOLD SPRING PRIMROSE went reserve best beginner in show. Well done to you all, you did the breed proud.

A real baby at her first show. She has the legs of a supermodel! and a balanced outline which will take some time to fill, but goodness me what promise she has. Everything in the right place, melting head and expression, dark eyes and a correct scissor bite. Super forehand assembly and well laid shoulders her elbows neatly tucked in. Short coupled and a level topline. Good stride she made a very good account of herself.

Good length of neck leading into good shoulder, well laid into a level topline and correct tail set. Her coat is stunning, true double coat of course and it has been expertly trimmed and groomed to perfection. Moved with purpose, I liked her a lot. Understand her first two wins gave her the last points she needed for her Junior Warrant. Congratulations, well deserved.

Litter sister to my second in yearling and they really are like peas in a pod. How fortunate to have two such outstanding bitches in the same ownership, I wish you all the best going forward with both of them, fun times ahead I suspect from these two. They were unlucky to meet class winner in such perfect condition and in both classes but she pushed hard to take the class unfortunately wasn’t in best coat, this is another ticket winner in the making in my opinion.

A glorious gold coat which looked fabulous in the sunshine, she has well bent stifles and straight hocks. Good width of quarters used to full advantage with her powerful movement. A worthy winner.

This certainly was a case of Deja Vu, when looking up the pedigree of this bitch she has the same sire as my MLB winner out of a strong bitch line, that comes up with consistently outstanding examples of the breed. Exemplary goldens from a clever breeder. Certainly this is once again champion material, with all the essentials to take her to the top. Utterly balanced, superb in upper arm, well laid shoulders and a dead level topline.

This is the prettiest of bitches, coal black pigment and soft dark eyes. I love her... so well put together, but best of all on the move she is effortless, covers the ground with good drive, she is absolutely true both coming and away, her stride is long and fluid giving the impression she could out run everyone with no effort at all. Unfortunately her coat has paid the price of the recent heatwaves otherwise she really would have troubled the best today.

This was the most beautiful class, and to stand at the front of it you really had to be something special. This bitch is in my opinion at her very best, mature and ready to take on all comers. She is symmetrical and powerful on the move, nothing was going to stand in her way today. A very level mover, I felt you could have balanced a platter on her back and it wouldn’t have shifted. She has a very feminine head and expression, with a kindly look to her eye. Her neck is well set onto to a text book forehand, long shoulder blades with a good angle of upper arm, her elbows were well tucked in and the front straight. Correct round feet, and well up on her pasterns. Her ribs were well sprung giving her plenty of heart room and her topline was the best. Tail set perfect, carried level with her back on the move. She moves with power and a correct foot fall viewed from any angle. Her coat is dense with good undercoat, and presented in great condition, trimmed to advantage with nothing overdone. She never put a foot wrong, handled superbly to show her to full advantage. I was delighted to send her forward with the agreement of my co-judge to represent the breed in the Best In Show Ring, and she did not disappoint. Well done on your CC and going forward to win BEST IN SHOW you did the breed proud.

This bitch is a slightly different package to my ticket winner, utterly feminine and very animated at every stage of her assessment. Happily wagging her tail and being shown free standing her personality shone through giving a kindly and intellgent impression of herself. It is of course impossible to assess any working ability in the showring but this bitch gives the impression that she would be up for anything expecially if it was going to be fun, I loved her energy as well as her conformation, she was my reserve CC winner today and with the referree’s decision took RESERVE BEST OF BREED
