Welsh Kennel Club

Breed: Kooikerhondje

The Welsh Kennel Club Championship Show 17th August 2025 Kooikerhondje A lovely honour for me to be invited and judge this wonderful Dutch Breed at The Welsh Kennel Club Championship Show. Thank you so much to the exhibitors for showing your wonderful dogs to me. It was an absolute pleasure. Also thank you to my ring stewards for keeping the ring running and have the patience whilst I took my time. It was a treat because no other breeds were judged in the ring that day so I had all the time in the world to talk about the dogs to the exhibitors. Thank you for your sportsmanship, for accepting my decisions and placing’s. It was an overall excellent quality, lots of high quality dogs with great temperaments, nearly square body proportions and correct head and tail carriages. The orange-red patches could sometimes be a bit smaller and better divided over the body. Please always keep in mind that the breed is called ‘Kooikerhondje’. This means in Dutch ‘a small version’ of a dog. A Kooikerhondje is small, so please keep the height in mind for future breeding. Puppy Dog No entries Junior Dog (1,0) 1st 5635 Guy’s Middanwinter War Horse At Kerelkoor. 14 months old lovely junior masculine dog. Top size and very balanced. Good body proportions. Lovely head with excellent breed characteristics. Moderately curved skull, correct length of muzzle. Correct dentition, nice wedge shaped muzzle. Correct filling under his dark almond shaped eye giving him a very friendly expression. Lovely carried ears, close to the head, well feathered and nice ear rings. Could have had a fraction more forechest. Enough bone but he has time to develop this a little more. Nice oval feet. Enough angulation in front, well angulated in the rear. Moved with a lovely springy gait not narrow behind at all. Correct in chest at the moment, deep enough. Excellent coat condition, clear white with correct orange-red patches. Super tail, well very typical carried on the move. Friendly and free temperament. I foresee a great future for him. Post Graduate Dog (1,0) 1st 5630 Davies’ Twybrook Barenhauter. 2 years old beautiful, very typical Kooikerhondje! Super size. Ticked a lot of my boxes. He is a masculine, friendly and alert lad. Stunning head, almond shaped eye, correct colour and expression. Wedge shaped muzzle of excellent length. Correct dentition. Visible stop, nice pigmentation. Excellent earset, well carried with correct ear rings. Beautiful head piece. Excellent neck and topline, strong level back and good croup. He has enough forechest. Correct lay of shoulder, nice spring of well developed ribs. His bone is excellent, with strong pasterns and nice oval shaped feet. Well angulated in front and rear with good bend of stifle. Beautiful tail, well set on and lovely carried in the ring during movement. Excellent high head carriage. He is nicely balanced standing and on the move. Excellent medium long coat texture, well feathered. White with orange-red patches. If he was a tat more square then he would have been absolutely perfect but for me he was perfect enough. Well deserved Best Dog and Best of Breed.

Limit Dog No Entries Open Dog (3,1) 1st 5631 Gutteridge’s Benitin Trojan Of Geduld. 6 years old masculine dog, a little on the bigger size. He has a lovely head, correct moderately curved skull. Excellent wedge shaped muzzle and correct bite. Beautiful dark eye, almond shaped with a friendly, kind expression. Nice pigmentation. Excellent ears, well set on, just above eye level, carried close to the cheeks which are not prominent with nice ear rings. Excellent neck and topline with a good croup and tailset. Enough bone and correct oval feet, a bit turned out. He has enough forechest but his ribs needed to be filled out more and elbows could be closer fitting to the body, which you could also see on the move. Needs a bit more angulations too but he moved quite in balance with a springy gait and not narrow behind. He shows a nice temperament with a good head and tail carriage. A little ticking in his white coat with big orange-red patches. 2nd 5646 Williams’ Cairnbraid Onwaba Lukimbi Of Gladsheim (Imp Bel) Vw. 10 years old lovely dog in excellent condition and size with correct proportions. Nice head, shows his age a little but correct muzzle and good bite. Very sweet expression, correct pigmentation. Correct earset with nice ear rings. Good neck and topline. Lovely bone on him with the correct strong pasterns and oval shaped feet. Correctly developed in his ribs with balanced angulations in front and rear. He had a good springy gait, not narrow behind with enough reach and drive and good tail carriage. Lovely white coat in good condition with orange-red patches. He was alert and focussed. Correct ears with lovely ear rings. Super neck and topline with correct lay of shoulder. Correct front assembly. Nicely boned and excellent oval feet. His ribcage is well developed with correct elbows. His tail is a lovely plume, excellent carriage on the move with good head carriage. His movement is springy with correct reach and drive. Excellent in forechest, good angulations in front and rear. Well boned and feet are strong and oval enough. Well developed in ribs. Correct coat condition, lovely tail and feathering. A little bit ticking in white. Lovely orange-red patches. A very sweet and soft temperament. 3rd 5638 Johnson’s Sensation Vom Tespelkooi Of Valleyrise Vw.

Well deserved Reserve Best Bitch. 2nd 5640 Johnson’s Gladsheim Storm Chaser Of Valleyrise. 15 months feminine girl of excellent quality with a nice head and a bit longer in body because of her loins. She has a lovely attentive expression from a beautiful dark eye. Enough length of muzzle. Strong in under jaw. Unfortunately bite is not correct. Lovely ears and ear rings. Nice pigmentation. Enough forechest and a good spring of rib. Front a bit out but nice oval feet. Well angulated in the rear, enough in front. In profile she shows good movement, going a bit narrow behind. Lovely bone and correct coat condition, lovely orange patches. Nice temperament. Post Graduate Bitch (3,0) 1st 5632 Gutteridge’s Twybrook Rotkappchen Of Geduld. 2 years old bitch of good quality with a lovely head, very typical, good moderately curved skull and excellent length of muzzle. Strong with correct dentition. Almond shaped eye with correct expression. Nice pigmentation. Ear carriage could be better but good ear rings. She needs a better front assembly, a bit straight in upper arm and she needs more forechest. A tat bigger in size, enough bone and oval shaped feet. She needs a fraction more angulation in the rear but she moves in good coordination with just a enough ground coverage. Excellent coat condition and feathering. Lovely plume tail, which tends to go a bit too much over the back while moving. Lovely, free, friendly temperament. 2nd 5643 Norman’s Kerfkooiker Pandora. 4 years old feminine bitch, somewhat bigger size and unfortunately not in her best jacket. Although she does have a lovely head of excellent breed quality, lovely wedge shaped muzzle. Nice pigmentation, correct dentition. Excellent length of muzzle, which is strong, correct visible stop and beautiful almond shaped dark eyes. Her body is not there yet. She needs more forechest and more

spring of rib. Elbows need to be closer to the body. Her legs have enough bone but need more coat and feathering. Legs are nicely straight with oval feet. Tail could be a better plume but very nice typical carriage on the move. She needs more angulation in front and in the rear. Moved with enough drive. She moved with a flowing and springy gait, very balanced and coordinated provided by her excellent angulations front and rear. She has a lovely free and friendly temperament.
