Breed: Bernese Mountain Dog

The Welsh Kennel Club Championship Show 16th August 2025 Bernese Mountain Dog First I would like to say thank you to The Welsh Kennel Club for giving me the honour to give CC’s in this fantastic breed. I enjoyed it extremely. It was absolutely fantastic to be able to go over so many wonderful dogs. Thank you to my ring stewards for running the ring so smoothly. It was a very busy day but a very enjoyable one with lots of dogs and different breeds. Thank you to the exhibitors for giving me the honour to judge your lovely dogs and accepting my decisions and placing’s. Veteran Dog (1,O) 1st 3840 Cotton’s Ch Kernow Billy No Mates At Jukesbern. 71⁄2 years outstanding veteran male of good size who was nicely balanced, strong and active and he delivered a great performance. I loved his self-confidence and his friendly temperament. His skull was strong with an even and proportioned strong muzzle. Very dark brown eye with an alert expression. A bit wide white blaze on his skull. Correct ears, close to his head. Strong neck of good length flowing into a level and strong topline which he held on the move. Correct in broad chest, well ribbed and beautiful bone, strong pasterns and short compact feet. He moved with great stride, balanced and coordinated. Well angulated front and rear. He had a beautiful jet black coat, long with a bushy tail, correct rich markings. He was the first to be judged that day and he set the bar high right away. Happy to award him Best Veteran of the day. Minor Puppy Dog (1,0) 1st 3852 Dybdall & Lydon’s Dovre Av Hiselfoss For Rodiveco (Imp Nor). 6 months old lovely puppy dog which I had the privilege of judging him for the second time in his young life and I must say he is developing well. He still has a very balanced appearance. Nice flat skull, correct defined stop and strong muzzle. Nice expression. For his age a super neck and topline, enough forechest, nicely compact in body, super hind angulations and enough lay of shoulder. Strong pasterns and round compact feet. Excellent black puppy coat and bushy tail with good markings. Nice bone and substance for his young age. Moves with good reach and drive. He just needs to get a bit stronger in the rear but he has enough time for that. Lovely temperament and well handled. I foresee a bright future for him if he keeps developing like this. Puppy Dog (1,0) 1st 3866 Love & Johnson’s Gorsebern Mister Twister. Nice puppy dog of 9 months, masculine, correct size and great proportions. Already strong in muzzle, enough stop with correct development in skull of good shape. Correct dark eye. Bite not okay, hopefully it will improve with some time. Well developed in body and brisket, reaching to elbows. Excellent forechest, correct in bone, feet and pasterns. He moved very balanced and coordinated with correct drive holding a nice topline for this age. Soft temperament, excellent coat quality and dark rich markings.

Junior Dog (2,0) 1st 3842 Cotton’s Etterbern Baz Vegas At Jukesbern. 16 months masculine dog of correct size and proportions. Correct head shape, strong muzzle of good length. Well developed in skull. Dark eye with kind expression. Excellent forechest, good ribcage and enough correct angulations front and rear. Nicely rounded croupe. Correct reach of neck and topline. Jet black coat of good texture and bushy tail, well carried on the move. He moved with drive, showing a nice temperament and presence. Nicely presented in excellent condition. 2nd 3873 Meakin’s Angelrain Dark Prince. 17 months old masculine dog of very good quality. Lovely head with good length and a strong muzzle. Stop is well defined. He has a dark eye with a very sweet expression. Good length of neck. Topline has to be a bit stronger standing and on the move. Excellent jet black but not in his best jacket today. Correct white markings. Nice bone and he stands on good feet with strong pasterns. Tail carriage a bit high on the move and could be more bushy. Movement was balanced with enough drive. Correct angulations. He needs time to mature, develop more in ribs and overall strength. Nice temperament. Yearling Dog (3,0) 1st 3854 Ellis’ Kernow Sealion At Fitzford. 21 months old fellow, good size masculine dog, well developed for his age. Correct in head proportions, strong muzzle and correct bite. Nice dark eye with attentive expression. Strong flat skull, correct ears, medium sized. Excellent bone, strong pasterns and nice compact round feet, well arched toes. Correct broad forechest. Enough depth of chest and well rounded in croupe. I would like to see a fraction more angulations front and rear. Balanced in movement but a bit more drive from behind would benefit him even more. Holds his topline on the move. Correct in coat and colour. Later on rewarded him Best Special Beginners. 2nd 3883 Reid & Givens’ Fortonpark Senator At Mytrue. A 21 months old lad with a very masculine head, very deep in muzzle. I would prefer a tat more length in muzzle and skull. Lovely almond shaped dark eye, nice expression. Level bite. Nice temperament. 2nd 3827 Bennett’s Norburylou Karias Star. 21⁄2 years old masculine lad who was not in his best jacket today. Not much of a bushy tail, which hopefully comes back when he puts on his nice black coat again. Deep in muzzle, correct in stop, flat skull, lovely dark eye. Good reach of neck. Ribcage could be a bit more developed. Balanced in angulations front and rear with a lovely amount of bone. Pasterns strong enough, good feet. He is
