Bournemouth Canine Association Championship Dog Show

Sunday 10th August 2025

This was an appointment I was greatly looking forward too and it did not disappoint! I’m very grateful to Bournemouth Canine Association for the invitation to judge and to my very capable and supportive stewards on the day! A heartfelt thank you to all the exhibitors that entered; giving me the honour of going over your wonderful dogs. I was thrilled with the quality on the day.

Special Beginners Dog or Bitch (0,0)

Veteran Dog or Bitch (3,0)

1. Hughes, Mrs M. UK Cobblehill Gucci with Beauborne. A wonderful black and tan rough bitch who really showed her socks off today. Excellent overall size and proportions, presenting a balanced profile both standing and moving. Classic expression, good depth of chest and spring of rib which met a muscular loin. She moved out with purpose, holding a level topline and correct tail set. She was certainly top 3 in the challenge for me today; a wonderful example of the breed. Best Veteran.

2. Swinge, Miss M. Balthazar Johnny Angel. A red rough dog who displayed a wonderful outgoing temperament. Cobby and square in profile, with correct substance for size. Pleasing head of correct proportions; large round eyes, nose laid back with wide nostrils and good turn up of chin. Moved with drive and worked hard for his handler. Preferred the topline of 1 today.

3. Hershaw, Mrs T. Beauview Sun Blessed

Puppy Dog or Bitch (2,0)

1. Price, Miss F & Burns, Mrs L. Marquant New Order. A red rough dog presenting picture perfect in profile. Liked his overall size; square, cobby, balanced front and rear. Good sized head with a great expression finished off with high set ears used to full effect. A very smart little dog; I would like to see more confidence on the table as he matures but performed well on the move, holding his topline and tail.

2. Swinge, Miss M. Balthazar Mr Blu Zkye. A younger red rough dog; larger make and shape to 1st. This boy had a sweet head and expression; he wore his personality on his sleeve. Although bigger in type, I liked his balance, good lay of shoulder and well angulated rear. He moved around the ring with confident drive. Still plenty to settle in this youngster.

Junior Dog or Bitch (7, 3)

1. Donnellan, Mrs Y & Roberts, Mrs K. Vonici Vanity. A striking black and tan rough bitch with a real ‘look at me’ presence. Only just out of puppy class yet so well put together and composed in the ring. Loved her expressive head – wonderful placing of eyes and nose, correct turn up of chin and high set ears held to perfection to finish off the expression. Pleasing angulation front and rear which she put to good use on the move demonstrating balanced reach and drive. She held her topline and correct tail carriage from start to finish. Shown in beautiful condition. Happy to award her Best Bitch today.

2. Wood, Miss L. Delightbull Lady in Red. A beautiful red rough bitch with so much to like. She caught my eye on the initial line up; loved her size, cobby profile and overall balance. Good size head with great expression. Muscular neck, good lay of shoulder and solid topline. Moved well although dropped her tail carriage on occasion today. A very promising bitch.

3. Donnellan, Mrs Y. Griselda Too Much Love (Imp Sk)

4. Hershaw, Mrs T. Beauborne Vanda Via Tremaloy

Post Graduate Dog (4, 1)

1. Swinge, Miss M & Price, Miss F. Marquant Remember Me. A delightful red rough puppy dog who wore his personality on his sleeve today. I loved his overall size and profile on the stand; square with moderate substance for size. Displays a wonderful head and expression. He’s well-made throughout with balanced angulation. Good depth of chest, ribs well sprung and a short level back. Moved with excellent drive, maintaining his topline and tail carriage. Happy to award him Best Puppy today.

2. Donnellan, Mrs Y & Roberts, Mrs K. Pierre Cardin Bargest Vonici (Imp Pol). A smart red rough dog similar in make and shape to 1st. Presented cobby and square in profile when standing. I particularly liked his head, wonderful small ears set on high which he used to full effect. Maturing nicely and shown in good muscular condition. A little lively on the move at times causing him to lose his front but when settled he displayed a pleasing side gait.

3. Hughes, Mrs M. Beauborne Redvalentino

Limit Dog (1, 0)

1. Hughes, Mrs M. Bruneaver Space Oddity from Beauborne. A very handsome red smooth shown in gorgeous condition, who paints a wonderful picture on the stand. His angles were clear to see; excellent front and rear angulation, solid topline and high set tail carried up and arched over the back. Slightly heavy on the ear but presents a great facial expression nonetheless. He wasn’t himself on the move today.

Open Dog (3, 1)

1. Donnellan, Mrs Y & Roberts, Mrs K. Ch Kinder Surprise Rimarose Vonici (Imp Pl) A very smart red rough who stands foot perfect and is full of breed type. Particularly loved his size, cobby profile and overall balance. Pleasing head with high set ears to finish off his alert expression. Well-made throughout; good width of chest with well sprung ribs. Defined stifle and strong hocks. An example that is in great muscular condition. Moved with purpose; balanced reach and drive; maintaining his topline. Pleasure to award Best Dog and ultimately Best of Breed today.

2. Swinge, Miss M. Balthazar Supersonic Shcex. Another quality red rough with so much to like. Striking expression with large round dark eyes and wide muzzle. Muscular neck leading to good lay of shoulder and short level back. Balanced angulation front and rear. Correct tail set and carriage both standing and on the move. Displayed a pleasing side gait on the move, driving from strong hocks. Shown in excellent coat condition. Unlucky to meet 1 on great form today. Reserve Best Dog.

Post Graduate Bitch (3, 1)

1. Swinge, Miss M. Balthazar Shake It Off. A sweet red rough full of personality, very much enjoying her day today. Only 9months old and plenty more to settle in this youngster. Presents a square profile with moderate substance for size. Nicely angulated enabling her to open her stride on the move. She maintained her topline and tail carriage.

2. Donnellan, Mrs Y. Vonici Vara Dellrey. Another smart red rough. Overall, smaller in make and shape than 1 but still holds plenty of substance for her size. She has the sweetest head and expression. Particularly liked her small high set ears which she used to full effect. Balanced mover with pleasing side gait. Would like a touch more height.

1. Guy, Mr D. Donzeata Royal Elite. A wonderful compact red rough, presenting a square and cobby profile. Very sweet head and expression with excellent small ears set high. Good substance for size. Ribs well sprung meeting a strong short loin. Stifle well defined. Pleasing tail set and carriage. Sound on the move demonstrating balanced reach and drive.

1. Guy, Mr D. Donzeata Royal Etiquette. This red smooth took my attention as soon as she entered the ring. Loved her make and shape; cobby in profile and beautifully balanced. Wonderful head with large dark eyes, wide muzzle and prominent chin. Good layback of shoulder, wide chest and ribs well sprung. Muscular rear, stifles well bent and high set tail. Moved around the ring with spirit and drive. Reserve Best Bitch.

2. Donnellan, Mrs Y. Int Ch Shevilan Everyone Knows Alice (Imp Lva). A delightful black rough veteran who certainly doesn’t look her age. The breed characteristics ‘alert and lively’ are spot on for this lady. Cobby with good amount of bone. Expressive head with large round eyes and a wide well-furnished muzzle. Balanced angulation front and rear, she moved out with purpose.
