DACHSHUND (WIRE HAIRED)
My thanks to the Officers &Committee of the Dachshund Club of Wales for the invitation to judge Dachshund (Wire Haired) at their 14th August 2025 Championship Show held in conjunction with The Welsh Kennel Club All Breeds Championship Show. It was a very enjoyable appointment and my thanks also go to all the exhibitors for their entries and support.
Puppy Dog (2)
1st Davies’ ATAHIRA FINALE an 11-month-old well grown young male who has notable body and bone development. Satisfying overall length and balance and he is pleasing in standing profile. Attractive head shape, eye and expression; just preferred his front assembly to 2nd. True front with prominent fore-chest; pleasing angles front and rear with tight elbows in front and strong, angled hindquarters with parallel hocks behind. A very promising youngster. Moved confidently with a free purposeful action. Best Puppy in Breed.
2nd Wills’ KASALANE PIETERSITE a well bodied 10-month-old male who has an attractive head shape and expression. Sufficiently long in neck which is in proportion to the rest of him. Tends to splay in front so needs to tighten both standing and moving. Overall, he is well grown in bone and body and presents a well-proportioned, balanced picture in side profile. Free moving and has pleasing side gait.
Junior Dog (2)
1st Phillips’ CH TENDROW WILL TO SUCCEED a sound 14-month-old well bodied male who has pleasing overall length and proportions. Handsome breed typical head and furnishings set on a strong good length neck. True front with obvious fore-chest. He has stature in body which is pleasing in length, proportions and balance. Moved with a free, positive action and was the better mover of the class. One who will only improve and has a very bright future.
2nd Mountford’s INCORDEMEO HIGHFLYER a shapely 15-months-old who has pleasing body length and overall shape. Attractive head and expression. Head set on a neck of proportional length, decent front although not as tight as 1st , with enough fore-chest, spring and depth. Well covered body, firm top-line, good spring and length of ribbing. He has an attractive side profile with pleasing proportions and balance. Needs to be more enthusiastic and purposeful on the move to give of his best.
Post Graduate Dog (2)
1st Mountford’s INCORDEMEO MIDNIGHT a breed typical 15-month-old who is well made with pleasing length, proportions and overall shape. Attractive head and expression. Well made in front with pleasing fore chest and tight elbows. Good substance of body and pleasing ribbing with a firm correct top line. Presents an attractive profile appearance. Moved well in front and had the better rear movement.
2nd Clayton-Smith’s CAIRPARAVEL HARTNELL a 2½-year-old well grown, well bodied and harsh coated young male. One who is sturdy and tended to appear more substantial in front and forequarters than 1st. Attractive in head shape, furnishings and expression. Needs to tighten and strengthen in hindquarters both standing and moving.

1st Rowe’s BALORIA GOODNIGHT MR TOM JW a nearly 2-year-old male in pleasing coat and condition with an eye-catching side profile which is balanced and all in proportion. In profile he is of pleasing length and balance. Attractive head of good length being not too broad and having breed typical head furnishings. Head set on a strong neck being of correct shape and length. True in front, solid in body with firm level top line and strong well angled hindquarters of good width, parallel hocks. Moved soundly with a confident head carriage. My Reserve Dog CC winner.
2nd McCalmont’s COVELLYN’S CECIL AT SILVAE a rising 2½-year-old smart looking male who is similar in look to 1st with pleasing firm body cover. Attractive head of pleasing shape, furnishings and expression. Good length and shape of neck which is set well into shoulders. Not as pleasing in front as 1st but attractive in overall length and angles front and rear. Movement was more settled in front and rear than 3rd although could be tighter in hocks.

1st McCalmont’s SILVAE BYSTANDER a quality 14-month-old impressive male who has undeniable breed type, a clean outline and classic lines combined with sound conformation. In commendable condition having pleasing coat texture, firm substance and breed typical furnishings highlighting his attractive head and expression. His head is set-well onto a strong neck and good-width, well laid shoulders with a firm body and firm, level top line. Soundly constructed in front and forequarters having obvious fore-chest. Balanced front and rear angulations; ideal width all through with full broad hindquarters and ideal width, parallel hocks. He presents a well-proportioned and balanced picture both standing and moving. My Dog CC and BOB winner and pleased to see him later be awarded Best In Show.
2nd Robinson & Howlett’s SKYSWIFT TENNESSEE HONEY a sturdy, mature 6½-year-old well bodied male who has pleasing overall length and proportions. Handsome breed typical head set on a strong good length neck. OK front and fore-chest and pleasing spring and length of ribbing. Just preferred his standing profile to 3rd. Moved with a free, positive action but needed to be more settled in rear action.

1st Phillips’ CH ROYAL PEPPER’S VICE VERSA an attractive 7-year-old mature male who has a pleasing head and expression, good reach of neck with clean, angled shoulders. True front with obvious fore-chest, good spring and depth of chest. Firm, well covered body with correct top-line. Moved well and free which I preferred to 2nd.
2nd Clayton-Smith’s CAIRPARAVEL KISS FROM ROSE a 7-year-old mature bitch who has a very attractive head and expression. Standing she has a true front, with pleasing ribbing and depth. Firm and good length body with pleasing proportions and balanced. Needs to extend and be more controlled on the move.
Minor Puppy Bitch (1)
1st Gill’s DRAKKINA DRAGON’S GIRL FOR JOCAGIL a very promising 6-month-old youngster who has notable bone and body development. Attractive head and expression. Desirable conformation in front, body and hindquarters. She has an excellent foundation structure to develop and grow-on into a quality adult. Free moving in typical, playful puppy style.
Puppy Bitch (1)
1st Wills’ KASALANE APACHE’S TEAR a shapely 10-month-old young bitch. She has an attractive head and pleasing expression. She presents a very smart, well-proportioned profile; true enough front scope to mature in fore chest, body and strengthen in hindquarters. Free and true movement.
Junior Bitch (3)
1st McCalmont’s SILVAE FAN THE FLAMES a 14-month-old typy, well-constructed, shapely bitch who has satisfying body length and overall shape. Attractive head and expression, true well-made front and forequarters which I just preferred to 2nd. Pleasing body development with enough spring, depth and being tight in elbows. Breed typical in coat and coat texture. She has an attractive side profile with pleasing proportion and balance. Better mover of the class.
2nd Mountford’s INCORDEMEO REMEMBER ME a 15-month-old of similar profile shape to 1st but not as good in front or forequarters. Attractive head shape, good length neck but would be the better with more obvious fore-chest. Satisfying overall length, proportions of body and angulations front and rear. Preferred her coat and coat texture and free movement to 3rd.

1st Beagrie’s FELDHUND SHOW THE WAY JW a shapely 20-month-old who is attractive in general appearance having a clean, well-defined profile with good proportions and balance in body and angulations front and rear. Smart, attractive head and attentive in expression; head set on good length neck with a firm nicely covered body; obvious fore chest, pleasing top-line, strong well angled hindquarters which I preferred to 2nd. Moved well especially in front and was the better mover of the class.
2nd Hepner & Hepner-Chapman’s CLIPPERDOWN VIVIEN LEIGH a shapely, long and low 16-month-old red with enough leg length to move freely. She has a smart typy, feminine head and expression. Pleasing body proportions and overall development in make and shape. Well-constructed front with fore chest which I preferred to 3rd. Satisfying length of body and decent angles front and rear. A bit of a handful today and needs to settles both standing and on the move to give of her best.

1st Seath’s SUNSONG HOPES AND DREAMS a quality looking 2¾-year-old who has pleasing overall construction and was good to go over. Attractive, feminine and breed typical in head and expression. True and tight front having fore-chest, tight elbows and desirable angulation front and rear. Satisfying in body length, firm in top-line and is of ‘just right’ proportions and balance. Free moving, settled in movement with parallel width behind
2nd Hutchings’ COLLIDACH RAYNEE DAY JW a 3-year-old very shapely bitch who was a little bit sensitive today and not helping her handler. Presented herself to best advantage when standing naturally. Attractive head and expression which I preferred to 3rd. Pleasing overall length, proportions length to height and balance in angulations front and rear. Positive, free and steady movement.

1st Howlett & Rowe’s CH BOLORIA OH DARLING JW a classy looking junior bitch who is in impressive coat and condition. Eye-catching side profile which is balanced and all in proportion with pleasing breed characteristics. She is of pleasing length to height proportions and balance front to rear angulations. She has a head and expression I liked being satisfying in length, not too broad, with typical head furnishings. Sound in front, solid in body with firm level top line and strong well angled hindquarters with parallel good width hocks. Moved soundly, confidently and with a noble head carriage. My Bitch CC winner.
2nd McCalmont’s CH SILVAE TIME AFTER TIME a 5-year-old mature impressive bitch who presents a clean outline together with sound conformation. Presented in excellent coat and condition. She is firm in body with furnishings complementing her attractive head and expression. Her head is set-well onto a strong neck of elegant shape and proportional length. Pleasing well laid shoulders and firm body with strong level top line. Well-made in front and forequarters having obvious fore-chest. Balanced front and rear angulations; ideal width all through with full broad hindquarters and good width hocks. Free moving with better rear action than 3rd.
