Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Club Championship Show 1 March 2025
I had looked forward to judging the bitches at this year’s Club Show. The committee dealt with the last minute change of venue heroically with “ The Show Must Go On” attitude. I am thankful for the calm efficiency of my ring stewards Donald Young and Becky Wileman. We quickly adapted to the limited space for judging the larger classes and minimising the effects of the floor vibrations and the very crowded spectating area.
BITCHES
Baby Puppy 10 (3)
Not the most ideal conditions for young puppies making their debut in the showring. However most took it in their stride. Those with previous training showed themselves off to advantage but some of the others were simply having a good time and an early introduction to a show environment can be beneficial in their socialising. Showing needs to be fun at this tender age and they can be forgiven if their agenda was a bit different from their owners
1 Chapman & Ireland’s Ellemich Love and Roses
This Black and Tan almost 6 months is nicely balanced and developed in body. Confident and assured on the move. Coat coming on well. Pleasing head and expression. Presented in excellent condition. BEST BABY PUPPY IN SHOW
2 Chapman & Ireland’s Kiss Kiss Du Chateau Noblesse at Ellemich
Blenheim kennelmate of the above. 2 weeks younger but just a shade taller at present. Good head properties, dark eyes and soft expression. She too was well schooled. Moved confidently, if a bit untidily in front. Could easily end up the more balanced and shapely of the 2. Nice position to be in with such quality of choice.
3 Spiders’ Caramoone Spring Breeze
4 Taylor’s Luvtayls Faith in Dreams
5 Konoike’s Ainrose Cherry Apple
Veteran 8 (3)
1 Colavecchia’s Carolus Miss Elsie
Feminine Blenheim aged 7 who was presented in a well marked conditioned coat. Such a pretty girl who appealed for soft, gentle expression, correct size and neat compact body shape. Neck led into well placed shoulders, continued with level topline and finished with correctly set tail. Complimentary angles front and rear. She has instant attraction with her constantly wagging tail. Miss Personalty plus who had style and moved soundly with a spring in her step. Lovely to see a Veteran with such zest. Went on to win BEST VETERAN IN SHOW.
2 Loades Rosirius Bluebell
Gentle faced Blenheim with loads of appeal who scored for breed type and her face features will always merit a second look. Large, expressive eyes. Text book marked coat and lots of care and attention had clearly been spent on her presentation. Must be a source of pride for her owner/ breeder. Just a bit sluggish today and not giving her all on the stand or in action.
3 Taylor’s Chambecc Shimmer at Luvtayl
4 Owen’s Hansowen Rising Star
5 Bailey’s Aldoricka Liana
Minor Puppy 8(3)
Two pretty Blenheims headed this class. Both a week short of 7 months.
1 Cox’s Emberlace Christina
Willing showgirl who was pleasing in outline, with good angles front and rear. Could come up on the leg to advantage but has time. Soft gentle eyes giving an attractive expression. Very biddable and stood happily showing. Steady on the move and a comfortable winner of this class.
2 Li’s Avalcier Orientale Flos
Felt the noisy moving floor unsettled this youngster and she was less confident on the move than winner. Good head type which is still obviously developing. A shade bigger than 1 but her angles at this stage of her growth are less distinct.
3 Spiers’ Caramoone Glass Slipper
4 Brewer & Moody’s Bowfort I Am Cleo
5 Graham’s Aidanmoss Bright Eyes
Puppy 15(4)
1 Jackson’s Applebroad Candy Spice via Fortunamajor
This very pretty headed Blenheim has large, dark eyes and a most appealing expression. Good length of ears and correct muzzle shape. Lighter body markings, with a predominantly white show side which exhibitor reversed on the stand to show off the well broken markings. I actually liked the white side as it showed her clean outline from neck, shoulders, topline to tailset. Well off for coat, she was presented in top class order, moving accurately with some style to win this competetive class. BEST PUPPY BITCH and at the end of the day BEST PUPPY IN SHOW over a very high quality dog that I also found quite endearing and so typical.
2 Rizzi’s Giò Cavalier Morning Star of Renaissance
Another lightly marked Blenheim of satisfying size and shape. Again her angles front and rear drew my attention and she presents a pleasing profile. Turned out in fine order as regards coat and condition, but could not match the winner’s head and expression, nor the flow and style of her on the move. Nevertheless, two top quality yougsters with the prospect of successful show careers ahead.
3 Kilcoyne’s Granasil Little Bird Told Me
4 Kerr’s Kinvaar Pinky Promise
5 Waters’ Sweetbriar Sarsaparilla
Junior 16(3)
1 Lovel’s Lovetrac Angelica
Very pretty Blenheim that appealed in size and proportions. Sweet and gentle in expression with pleasing eye size and colour. Shapely muzzle with good ears. I liked her shoulders, neck and topline, presenting a satisfying profile. Steady on the move, although front could be tidier. Presented in top class order
2 Horner’s Toraylac Felicia
Sweet little Blenheim of 15 months with lots of self assurance. Very eye catching with her well distributed chestnut and white marked coat. Not fazed by the overcrowded ring and was very curious of all the bustle, taking it all in. Good make and shape with lots of positive breed characteristics. Went well.
3 Jackson’s Fortunamajor Pumpkin Spice
4 Hazeltine’s Juzandia Relight My Fire
5 Parson’s Anjomil Moonflower JW
Yearling 18(3)
1 Atkins’ Lacerta Luisa
I really liked the size and proportions of this Blenheim. Correct angles front and rear and a compact body. She had so much I was looking for. Complimentary markings on a coat of rich colouring. She was enthusiastic in displaying her virtues with some style. In movement she was accurate going and coming. In profile displayed good neck shoulders and topline, altough tail could rise at times, but not offensively. Her head properties were attractive with a soft outlook, gentle eyes and shapely muzzle. Totally moderate in every way. In my final 4 today.
2 Ireland’s Charnell Here Comes Summer JW
Probably one the best headed bitches I judged today. She is sweetness itself, with an expression that would melt the hardest of hearts. So typically Cavalier! She also wanted to be a friend to everyone she met - again so typically Cavalier! Satisfying to go over with all the right shapes and angles with a quality coat of rich colouring, pleasingly marked. Just fails to hold it together on the move sinking down into her shoulders.
3 Conlon & Kotani’s Rathbrist A Million Dreams
4 Sharp-Dixon & Leach’s Ouzlewell's Spring Blossom
5 Mooney’s Oh What A Night of An Excellent Choice Nld/Lux Jch W24
Novice 20(3)
1 Searle’s Stonepit Dominique
A well-conditioned coat of some length clothed the striking outline of this young lightly marked Blenheim, drawing my eye immediately. Very satisfying to handle on the table and to view and appreciate her facial features. Fulfilled my requirements in head and she moved freely. Would probably benefit from a bigger ring to allow her more room to step out
2 Holme’s Leogem Venetzia
Attractive, well distributed markings on this classy Tricolour. Although this should be the icing on the cake, I have found that the distribution of the colours, particularly on the head and face, can so affect the expression. I liked her size and balanced shape, displaying her elegant outline to advantage. Everything in moderation.
3 Spall & Clark’s Llapsttam's Phyllis
4 O’Grady’s Culverhill Cecilia
5 Sharp-Dixon & Reyes’ Mitapip Blossom
Special Graduate Blenheim/Tricolour 10(3)
1 Waters’ Sweetbriar A Singer
Perfect size for me this richly marked, compact Blenheim. Good in profile enhanced by white markings on shoulder line and stifle. Pretty head with appealing eyes, just missing a bit of nose pigment. Good action going and coming, but a bit unsettled by the floor
2 Chadwick’s Juzandia Lady Bug at Chadlia
Glamorous Blenheim with well broken markings. A pretty girl with large, dark eyes and good earset framing her face. Make and shape appealed with bone to match her frame. Overexuberant going away upsetting her rear action. Easy on the eye with lots to like.
3 Lee’s Kelrick Trinity
4 Liverton-Ovey’ Chantismere Conchetta for Halosey (IKC) JW
5 Snook’s Coralvalley Special Gift
Special Graduate Black & Tan /Ruby 8(3)
1 Smith’s Beaudale Little Bit Naughty
Sweet faced Ruby with good eyes of the correct size and colour. Ideal tapering to muzzle and high set ears. Excellent nose pigment. Liked her size and short back. Reachy neck. Coat colouring is rich red and she gleamed. At almost 2 , I felt her still a tad immature and has more to come in development and furnishings.
2 Owens’ Hansowens Night Star
Shapely Black and Tan with sunny personality. Attractive head with round, dark eyes and plenty of cushioning below eyes. Soft, silky coat and turned out a treat. Lots of wag.
3 Price’s Glorious Charm
4 Bailey’s Magiro Miss Dolly at Aldoricka
5 Workman’s Toraylac Georgianna of Costara
Post Graduate 13(1)
1 Corner’s Toyswood Magic Dance at Delaby
Well bodied Black/tan who scored for her size, soft, genial expression and silky coat. Jet black with bright tan points. Friendly and sweet natured. Being more in sync with her handler on the move would improve her deportment as she has a tendency to do her own thing.
2 Galloway’s Revdvicki Heaven Sent at Sailcross
3 year old richly coloured Blenheim with pleasing expression. Decent angles both front and rear and she carried herself with good posture. Another with typical friendly Cavalier demeanour.
3 Jaramillo’s Conabec Lady Madonna
4 Guvercin’s Glebeheath Jelly Bean
5 Williams’ Granasil Tea House Moon On Sancana
Mid Limit 12(5)
1 Rizzi’s Giócavalier Filippa The Rebel Int/It/Fr/Mne JCh
A real glamour girl. Another contender for the best head in my entry. Superb eyes dominate her facial features. They are massive, dark, round and lustrous with huge bell shaped ears framing a shapely muzzle with sufficent cheek filling and a neat lip line. Perfect for size with such a clean outline, with neck, shoulders and backline fitting so well together. Her well-defined Blenheim markings complete a most appealing picture, with a coat of quality presented in fine order. Moving very well holding her shape and tail carried perfectly. Would have liked more drive from behind.
2 Tremain’sBonitos Companeros First Class (Imp Deu)
Sweet faced Blenheim who handled nicely on the table and I found lots to like. Handy size with amiable expression. Eyes, ear set, stop, tapered muzzle all fitted the bill. Liked her balance with good ratio of height to length. Did not disappoint on the move and she had a quiet confidence. Her owner brings out her best with gentle, encouraging handling. Should continue to do well.
3 Debiak’s Glamour Lady Magic Oak
4 Wilson’s Peters Cavalier Naomy Black Medgic
5 Leaver’s Revaelann Scrumptious
Limit 12(2)
Two Blenheims headed this class. They were similar in so many ways which was not surprising, as the catalogue subsequently revealed to me they are full sisters. They both have large dark and soulful eyes and sweet expressions, correct foreface proportions and framed by well-feathered ear leathers. Body profiles equally satisfying; angles front and rear, neck, shoulders, topline and tailset. Steady and accurate action on the move. It was literally a hair-splitting decision, my preference on the day going to the younger of the two, who surpringly is a shade more mature in body development and finish of coat, and she featured in my final four in the Challenge.

1 Homes’ Leogem Campanula
With a crystal ball and looking at this class in the catalogue,I would have speculated on this class being a duel between Shanice and Boogie, whom I’d seen and been impressed with at the few shows I attended in 2024. Instead, it was this little flower that rang my bell. She suited me perfectly in size, structure and attitude. She has a sweet face and enchanting eyes, with no exaggeration whatsoever. She fits the bill construction-wise, with a pleasing outline both in repose and on the move. Her deportment is relaxed but attentive, covering the ground with accuracy and ease. Well broken markings on a coat of quality in great condition.
I awarded her the RESERVE CC today and her owner told me this qualifies her for her Champion title under the new post-July 2023 rules. Congratulations on this great achievement.
I noted afterwards that she has the same sire as the two sisters in the preceding class as well as my Special Graduate winner. It was nice that he was entered today and won Best Veteran Dog
2 Levy & Sedgwick’s Pascavale Shanice
I have a soft spot for tricolours as they are arguably the hardest to breed true to the standard. Three colours to juggle….not easy. So when one with this quality comes along it is exciting. Petite tricolour with stunning face features that combine to make up the sweetest expression. Eyes large, dark and round. Well spaced and forward looking. Flat skull and long feathered ears. Good neck blending with laid back shoulders. Compact body with good ribs. Tail carried tidily. Her soft, silky coat gleamed and her markings were cosmetically pleasing. Viewed from across the ring she stands happily in show stance with gently wafting tail but the noisy floor seemed to unsettle her on the move

1 Derleta & Tracz’s Int Ch Gummi Grammi Snukraina
I see that this glamorous Blenheim is now over 4 years old. I first met her in May 2022 when she was just a junior at the Slovakian Cavalier Club’s Championship Show, where I gave her the top Bitch award. The show was held in the grounds of an old castle which was most appropriate, given our Breed’s royal connections. I learned that she has had great success in many European countries since then and I was pleased to add a UK Challenge Certificate to her list and with Lindsay’s aggreement BEST IN SHOW.
Correct head qualities, including high-set well fringed ears, shapely muzzle and enough filling in foreface with nothing overdone. She was accurate and fluent moving , displaying a fearless yet happy character,as well as devotion and a willingness to please. The rapport between handler and dog was apparent and admirable with each relishing in the other’s company and presence. You could not fail to enjoy seeing this human-to-canine connection. It was like seeing Ginger Rogers interact with her dancing partner, moving as one. Pure old-style Hollywood.
2 Robb, Chapman & Ireland’s Ch Ellemich Good Trouble with Gleniren
Super sized and tidy blenheim with no exaggerations. Face features appeal and her Blenheim markings are rich and well broken adding to her appeal. Short coupled with well sprung ribs and firm topline. Displays a lovely temperament and puts on a good show both standing and circling the ring. She commands attention and I brought her back in to challenge for the RCC.
