Crufts

Breed: Bearded Collie

CRUFTS Breed Results: Bearded Collie Dog (Day 4)

DCC 16228 - Ch Farmarens Drums of Spring at Talraz (Imp Swe) JW (Mr M J, Mrs E A & Miss L Jay)

RDCC 16295 - Int/multi Ch Irisaddition Greatest Show (Mr R Otto)

BP 16171 - Full of The Dickens Winner Takes It All for Kingswud (Mrs S Collins)

I would like to thank all the exhibitors for the honour of their entries, and I know a number of whom had travelled considerable distances. Also, a special thank you to my stewards, Shelagh Needham, and Alan Hards for their friendly efficiency throughout the day. It makes judging a real pleasure, when you have stewards taking care of everything, with efficiency, and who don’t intrude. I thought that the venue was excellent, and provided a good sized ring.

My big disappointment was the bitch getting Best of Breed. I feel she lacks feminity, and wouldn’t have looked out of place in the Open Dog Class. I also feel the Dog CC showed far superior free flowing movement. If you look at my Bitch CC, and Res CC from Wales a few years ago, Nellbrook Pure Imagination (now Ch), and Nellbrook Incantation of Woodacre, these are both ultra feminine bitches. Have we now sadly got to the stage where size counts for more than femininity, and grace?

1ST 16228 - Ch Farmarens Drums of Spring at Talraz (Imp Swe) JW (Mr M J, Mrs E A & Miss L Jay)

A super class, and I’d have been more than happy to hand out three CCs, it’s just a shame I couldn’t give third in this class a write up. What can one say about this superb dog which hasn’t already been said. Outstanding slate, wonderful head and expression, good solid pigment, dark eyes, correct bite, good length of back coming from the rib, and not the loin, good deep chest, correct angulation, superb movement, looked as though he could have flowed around the ring all day. Yet another who was an object lesșon in presentation and handling. If he can pass on his many good points to his progeny, then the breed has a bright future.

Please to award him the CC.

2ND 16295 - Int/multi Ch Irisaddition Greatest Show (Mr R Otto)

A dog I’ve seen from the ringside a couple of times, he looked outstanding, and I wondered what he was like to go over, and also wondered if I might be disappointed. Well I can say I certainly wasn’t disappointed.

Slate in wonderful condition, had that majestic presence, and I just couldn’t take my eyes off him. Quality head, dark eye, correctly made with a nicely arched neck, correct scissor bite, his length of back comes from the rib, and not the loin. Moved really well, and kept his topline on the move. So very unlucky to meet 1 as he is such an outstanding dog.

Unlucky today in so much as he came up against the winner, who I felt was in unstoppable form. He was pushed very hard by 3, who was expertly handled.

Pleased to award him the RCC.

Another nice slate. Good overall construction, nicely balanced. Nice dark eye. Giving away some four and half years to the winner, so obviously lacked the maturity of the winner.
