Border Union Agricultural Society

Breed: Spaniel (Cocker)

Thank you to the exhibitors for braving the weather conditions and for accepting my decisions in a sporting manner and to my stewards for keeping me on track.

I was disappointed to find dentition issues, a level bite is not a scissor bite!

Minor Puppy Dog (1-1)

Puppy Dog (4-0)

1. Brennan’s - Charbonnel Chaperone at Kerrijoy – BPD

Black with a pleasing outline and presentation A1. Balanced head with a melting expression, wonderful sweep of neck into excellent shoulder placement. Moved with drive and purpose, holding a level topline & best forward reach in the class. One to watch for the future!

2. Lawrie’s - Inverella Hugo Boss

Another black built on slightly smaller lines to the first, but everything in good order, would have preferred a little more width and depth to brisket. However, moved well with powerful rear driving action.

3. Paton’s - Dunherl True Blue

4. Flynn’s - Plaiglen Haribo

Junior Dog (8-0)

1. Fairbairn & Madigan’s - Carmelfair Cesare from Misperros – RDCC

Blue from the top drawer and one I have admired from the ringside and did not disappoint on handling. Loved his head proportions and expression. Correct angles fore and aft and came to life on the move, working in harmony with his handler, used his tail well and carried level off the back. Well-muscled quarters which propelled him around the ring with a level topline.

2. Bodzak’s - Whinburn Dearg Aurora

Red boy who is all male, stood four square and had nothing exaggerated. A really pleasant cocker who moved with ease, propelled by well-muscled quarters, presented to advantage.

3. Ward’s - Whinburn Walk The Monn to Wensum

4. Brennan’s - Kerrijoy King of the Celts

Yearling Dog (3-0)

1. Gladman’s - Chativore Ocean Commotion

Blue boy with a masculine head and kind dark eye, well off for substance and has everything in good order - stood four square. Lots of substance, with ample heart room and depth and stood on neat tight feet. Moved with purpose and moved true.

2. MacLean & Scotland’s – Rosecourt Tuxedo

Blue who is built on slightly longer lines that the 1st, pleasing head and tight dark eye. Correct shoulder placement and excels in front assembly, covers the ground with ease. Close decision with 1.

3. Dolan’s – Snowgate Shine On

Novice Dog (8-0)

1. Kengyelics’ – Chataway Tradeoff with Hebdene

Black dog whose presentation is a master class. Excellently made, although not the shortest, which I could forgive, due to all his other redeeming qualities. On the move he held his topline and used his tail as a cocker should. Shortlisted for the CC, however, just lost out on “middle piece” development, which will come with age.

2. Ward’s - Whinburn Walk The Moon to Wensum

Black built on slightly smaller lines, a lot to like, specifically the head with an expression to die for. Well balanced exhibit with everything as it should be, on the move held topline.

3. Flowers’ – Totenkopf Dutch Devotion

4. Lawrie’s – Totenkopf Dancin on the Ceiling

5. Paton’s - Dunherl True Blue

Graduate Dog (6-0)

1. Vere’s – Adrona Continental

Well proportioned balanced black, pleasing head, eye and soft expression. Won this class by being well muscled and on movement, moved with a zip and drove out from the rear, propelled by short hocks. Well presented.

2. MacFarlane’s – Lochranza Celtic Ray

Fair example of the breed, B&T with pleasing head, eye and expression. Well made all through with everything in good order. Pleasing sweep of neck into correct shoulders. Slightly longer in back than the 1st.

3. Wiggins’ – Plaiglen Follow That Bike to Scapafield

4. Watson’s – Quettadene Stars Aligned over Bordacity JW

5. Tait’s – Crimcar Midnight Destiny

Post Graduate Dog (3-1)

1. Davidson’s – Annilann Mister Boo

Blue boy of a good type loved his headpiece for balance and the width of muzzle. Ample heart room, well off for substance and neat feet. Well-muscled quarters and excellent length to 2nd thigh. Move with drive and purpose on short hocks.

2. Duncan’s – Yodelmeister Von Magiccircle in Bartonholm

Tri whose head appeals for balance and expression. Well angled at both ends, good shoulder placement but needs to develop in middle piece. Moved well, just preferred the type of the 1st.

Limit Dog (5-2)

1. Duncan’s – More Than Amazing Time Traveller to Kenwad for Dunherl

A new one to me, chocolate roan with a strong masculine head, a well-muscled neck set into correct shoulders. Excels in substance with complimentary depth and width. Angles correct all through, excels in ribbing, could carry a little less weight to trouble the best but did not impair his movement.

2. Duncan & Hacking’s – Eastriding Blue Ambition

An honest blue boy that is very typey. Balanced head and with a kind expression and kind dark eye. Enough depth and width with correct spring of rib and matching angles. Moved well with a level topline and is well muscled.

3. Davidson’s – Rancecraig A Million Dreams

Open Dog (4-0)

1. Williams’ – Sh Ch Wilmerella Outlander JW – CC & BOB

There is not a lot I can add to what has already been said about this dog, except that he is a true stallion of a male. Well-muscled in middle piece which won him this class, balanced all through, terrific movement from his correct front extension to his powerful rear driving action. Great top line and tail set with ever wagging tail. Was really “up for it” today and topped off with A1 presentation.

2. Darby’s – Sh Ch Classicway Call Time JW

Different type to 1st, Classic cocker well balanced head with a soft appealing expression, all male without a hint of coarseness. Well made all through, super angles and moved well enough, just preferred the “go get em” attitude of 1st.

3. Wilson’s – Kenwad Wilbur Force at Mabelhope

4. Holland’s – Crimcar Indigo Magic to Holchancer

Veteran Dog (3-0)

1. Smith’s – Pearkim Pokemon at Luanshya JW VW

Well made orange boy, lovely balanced head and kind dark eye. Good length of neck set into fine shoulders, adequate substance. Well-muscled and short in loin, moved with animation using his tail well. Presented to advantage.

2. Clelland’s – Belltrees Kandyman

Red of a really good type and a close decision with 1st. Stronger in head than 1 but still balanced with a square muzzle. Well made all through and put down in good order. Well-muscled quarters and moved with drive.

3. Hynd’s – Scomar Magic Flute VW

Minor Puppy Bitch (5-2)

1. Gladman’s Classagh’s Footsteps to Chativore

Light blue with a divine head and eye, lovely width to muzzle. Well off for substance and set on the best of feet. Ample heart room and depth, well ribbed for age and short in loin. Was a little unsettled on the move but saw enough to award her the class.

2. Brindle’s – Ordhaway Sun Dance Girl

Red baby who was not as mature as 1st. Still a lot to like, built on more racier lines, everything was in good order with correct angles front and back. Moved with drive and purpose and was well muscled for age.

3. Kennedy’s – Kenwad Ravell

Puppy Bitch (10-4)

1. Masters & Dott’s – Manchela Soul Sister

Very typey blue from this kennel, a close decision between 1st and 2nd as similar remarks applies, won this class on a touch more return of forearm. Sweetest of heads with a soft appealing expression, short in back and well off for ribs for age. Move soundly, holding toppling, short hock provided the drive I was looking for. Put down in tip top order.

2. Fairbairn (handling for Maddigan) – Misperros Sapphira

Blue who I liked a lot, typical from this kennel, balanced head, dark eye and a square muzzle. Good length to neck set into correct shoulders, enough width and depth for age. Moved well holding topline, presented and handles to advantage.

3. MacLean & Scotland’s – Lynwater Flamenco

4. Vere’s Laveris Dream Design

Junior Bitch (7-2)

1. Masters & Dott’s – Manchela Sister Sledge – BPB & BP – Puppy Group 1

Litter sister to previous class winner, this young lady was a tad more mature, cleaner over her shoulders and felt she covered more ground more on the move than her sister. Classic headpiece with correct head planes and a soft melting expression. Everything in good order – handled sympathetically to advantage.

2. Marris-Bray’s – Plaiglen Biker Babe to Helenwood JW

Black who I have always admired from the ringside, a beautiful balanced head with a divine expression. Good length of neck set into fine correct shoulders. Good substance and excellent feet, moved with drive and purpose. Unlucky to meet 1st.

2. McGill’s – Carmelfair Calista of Gillchoman

Another lovely blue, bred by this clever breeder. Loved her type and shape, very cockery in profile. Lovely head and eye, everything else in good order. Unfortunately, was playing her handler up on the move, saw enough to assess, but for top honours, which she is worthy, needs a bit more practice.

3. Fletcher & Coupe’s – Zheridons Orange Sunset at Dalimese

4. Torbett’s – Kirlinjis Gold Beach

5. Burton’s – Snowgate Destiny to Dreamist

Graduate Bitch (5-0)

Always like this blue from being a puppy and did not disappoint on handling. Close decision between 1 & 2. Pleasing balanced head and eye. 4. Davies’ – Annaside You Are My Sunshine

Light blue bitch who headed up the strongest class of the day. Loved everything about her, balanced head with great width to muzzle. Darkest eye with a kind expression. Great substance all through without being overdone, ample heart room and with correct angles, front and back. Sparkled on the move with a level topline, using her well-muscled quarters to advantage. Had an ever wagging tail carried correctly and presentation A1.

2. Barry’s – Kenwad Katarina at Lindalloch

Dark blue, not the substance of 1st that said, moved with style and grace, covered the ground with excellent foot fall. Loved her shape, moderate neck set into fine shoulders, good ribbing, well-muscled with good angles and short in loin.

One I have judged before, and she impressed for overall balance with steadier movement this time compared to last. A lot to like, pleasing head and eye, well-muscled neck set into correct shoulders, with complimentary return of forearm. Well off for bone, with the sweetest of feet. Won this top quality class with her “verve” on the move.

2. Brennan’s – Ir Sh Ch Sparklette Shines at Charbonnel JW IR/INT JCH

Black with a lot of admirable qualities, you will go a long way to find one with a prettier balanced head with a divine expression. Very typey cocker and moved well holding her topline. Good front extension and covered the ground with ease. Close decision with 1.
