Southern Counties Canine Association

Breed: Scottish Terrier

Thank you to the Society for inviting me to judge this lovely breed. Thank you to Pat Lewis and Jane Hawkins for being such excellent stewards. I was delighted to see two of my winners were well placed in their respective Terrier groups.

PUPPY DOG (2)

1. Taylor’s Karmaristol Ericsson for Pamaswater. A lovely 8-month brindle dog puppy, who should have great potential. I see his sire was the Reserve Best Dog. Thick-set and shapely outline. Attractive, long, well-proportioned masculine head. Lovely almond shaped dark brown eyes giving an intelligent, keen expression. Neat, fine textured, pointed ears, well set and good scissor bite. Strong neck, flowing into super shoulders. Chest fairly broad and developing well. Well-rounded ribs, firm level topline and well-set tail. Deep thighs and well bent stifles. Moved so well, his well-muscled hindquarters and strong hocks enabled him to drive from behind. Presented and handled very well, sporting a harsh jacket. BEST PUPPY.

POST GRADUATE DOG (3)

1. Bodman’s Severus Snape. A black dog with strong head and plenty of bone. Compact and solid square dog with good ribs. Ground clearance not so good. Grooming could be better, moved ok.

OPEN DOG (6)

1. Plane’s Stuane Craftsman. A spirited, rather naughty young dog, of very high quality. Thick-set, complying with the breed standard very well. Really solidly built with the most wonderful muscle. Impressive well balanced long head. Beautiful fine textured neat, pointed ears set on top of his skull and dark expressive almond eyes. Strong, muscular neck, flowing into super sloping shoulders. Chest fairly broad and ‘hung’ between forelegs, with correct clearance of the ground. Good fore chest. Well sprung ribs, muscular loin and firm level topline. Powerful hindquarters with good tail set. Moved very well when settled. Full of Terrier character. Presented in a super weather-resistant double coat, as expected from this kennel. BEST DOG.

2. Nixon’s Tout Nouveau Tout Beau Du Clan Des Petits Colonel Karmaristol JW ShCEx. Appeared longer in back than the above, but very nice. I have judged him before and he has developed into a smart black brindle dog, beautifully presented in a wonderful harsh double coat. Good outline and balance. Super long, well-proportioned head. Dark almond eyes and correct neat ears. Long sloping shoulders, fairly broad chest hung between forelegs. Topline level, hindquarters are muscled and toned with nice tail set. He moved very well, smoothly and freely. RESERVE BEST DOG.

3. Greenwood’s Petmon Royal Ruffian JW

4. Taylor’s Pamaswater Hakuna Matata JW.

5. Bodman’s Severus Snape.

SPECIAL BEGINNERS (4)

1. Nixon’s Tout Nouveau Tout Beau Du Clan Des Petits Colonel Karmaristol JW ShCEx. AS ABOVE. BEST SPECIAL BEGINNER. I was so pleased to see he was second in the Special Beginners Terrier Group.

2. Greenwood’s Petmon Royal Gift JW. A very nice 3-year-old black feminine bitch. Nicely proportioned head with expressive almond-shaped eyes, ears set on well, clean through the cheeks and correct dentition. Muscular neck of good length to balance. Ribbing carried well back, short loin, tail well set and carried. She has pleasing angles both front and rear, plus good ground clearance. Moved very well, smoothly and freely, with drive. Good harsh coat texture.

3. Bodman’s Severus Snape.

PUPPY BITCH (1)

1. Nixon’s Karmaristol Ice Ice Baby. Sister to the dog puppy, of a very attractive red wheaten colour, also very promising. Thick set and well-constructed. Good head, clean cut with a keen and alert expression. Nice neck flowing into well laid shoulders. Chest developing well. Level topline, well-muscled hindquarters and nicely set tail. Wonderful mover for a bitch puppy. Smooth, free with drive from the rear. More of an unusual colour, harsh coat coming through.

POST GRADUATE BITCH (4)

1. Taylor’s Pamaswater Flaron. Nearly 3-year-old, wheaten bitch, whose chest has not fully dropped to create the correct Scottie front. A shame because she is a very nice overall type. Correct length of head with nearly flat skull, good eyes and ears. Strong in back with rounded ribs, good loin and tail set, providing a balanced outline. Moved OK, not quite the reach of some. Presented in good textured jacket.

2. Greenwood’s Carisco Return Amber to Petmon. Nearly 7 years old in super condition and good for her age. Long head with a slight stop and not such a flat skull as some. Dark eyes and good ear set. Deep chest and sufficient angulation. Level topline. Thick set with good bone. Moved OK. Black colour, with harsh double coat.

OPEN BITCH (3)

1. Plane’s Stuane Special Surprise. Full sister to the Best Dog. She is slightly more mature, ‘grown up’ and absolutely gorgeous. Feminine, but solidly built, who presents a super outline and she was so good to go over. Well-proportioned feminine head with strength and good planes. Expressive almond-shaped eyes, ears of correct set, clean through the cheeks, powerful jaws and scissor bite. Muscular neck of correct length flowing into long sloping shoulders. Super pronounced fore chest, deep brisket with good drop of chest and clearance. Nice elbows, firm topline, good ribbing, muscular loin, powerful hindquarters, tail set on correctly, with shelf behind. She moved out with purpose, smoothly and freely with drive from the rear. Excellently presented, as expected, in super coat. I understand that both brother and sister are champions, well deserved. I was delighted to see she was Third in a strong Terrier Group. BEST BITCH & BEST OF BREED.

2. Greenwood’s Petmon Royal Gift JW. AS ABOVE. RESERVE BEST BITCH.

3. Coley’s Kingsview Just Elizabeth.
