Hound Association

Breed: Deerhound
hanks to the society for inviting me to judge at their hound extraganza. Wow what weekend for celebrating all about Hounds and I'm sure it is only the start of what surely could be such a sucessful weekend in the year to come

Thanks to my exceptional stewards for keeping me on track. To the exhibitors for the fantastic entry of 59 with only a few absentees.

I haven't judged or seen a deerhound entry in a long time so it was very refreshing to come at the entry with a clean slate. All I can say is WOW, guys you should be so proud the entry was full of fabulous typy Deerhounds. The essence of a running, hunting machine was in full evidence. Lovely balanced side movement, low set hocks, big hindquarters with width and depth, good ribs, decent shoulders no knuckling over, good useful feet.

I felt some heads were heavy with some approaching stops and some light eyes. There was a couple of dogs/bitches with very light bone that I just could not envisage going down a scree slope or through thick high heather. In these days of hearing doom and gloom throughout the dog game, thank you for making me very happy and I hope you could see that from my facial expressions on the day.

PD (2): Two puppies at very different stages for their development, 1 Barrett's Stranwith Tor, tall and upstanding with a lovely head, good eyes nice shoulders, length of rib and quarters, needs to stop growing but he looked that he had finished and he needs to strengthen in his movement. 2 Tighmonadh Albannach, 6 months, very together with the same attributes but for me lacks a little length and bone for a male. PD (1) 1 S Tor.

JD (3): 1 Peach's Kilbourne Jagger, nice youngster with plenty length, good head and ears decent shoulders and quaters which balance , moved soundly; 2 Vin de Chateau du Triple Bois at Lycanfold, lengthy dog that moved well but needs time which he has on his side.

YD (1): 1 Hyndsight But I Won't Do That, Lovely youngster that I really liked and was in my mind for higher honours but just didn't get it together in the challenge, I'm sure that he will make up very quickly when he gets it and concentrates. Lovely shoulders, head and eye, good length of rib, really well let down quarters, moved well in the class, great coat thick and dense.

ND (1): 1 Vin de Chateau du Triple Bois at L.

PGD(4): 1 Beardswood Xcalibur, 2 years old and still to settle into himself which is correct, lovely to go over good topline, head and feet, would prefer more bone; 2 Antonius Vertagus The Ngong Hills, a dog with lots to admire, great shape and presented in the most wonderful manner, lacks a little stature for a male; 3 Chuilin Enigma at Albaeirn.

LD (5,1): 1 F Zareef at Wolfscastle, what a lovely dog, upstanding giving a commanding appearance, lovely head and eye, great neck leading into the cleanest shoulders with layback in both blades and upper arm, great bone leading to thick neat feet, lovely length and width to ribs, good width to hips which allowed for his exceptionally good movement. Coat presented beautifully and clean, gave him the DCC, his 4th I believe, very close up for BOB, just loves to show for his mum more than his dad; 2 Kilboutne Daniyal, heavier headed male, decent topline, moved well,

OD (5,1): 1 Ch Hyndsight Steppenwolf,

Interesting dog that as you go over him he impresses for his parts, decent head, good strong neck, good deep and wide hindquarters, great width of elbow with that bone going all the way down to his good feet, moves well. 2 Ch Packwa Blue Moon, a taller dog with lovely shoulders, good length of body, moved well, close up to 1; 3 Ch Ormanstar Ezra.

MPB(1): 1 Stranwith Thalia, Litter sister to the puppy winner, lovely head and eye, decent shoulders, length, lovely bone for age, decent quarters, lovely coat, needs to gain confidence in herself but through the day she improved.

PB (1): 1 S Thalia.

JB (7,2): Two really classy young girls headed this class and it was a tussle between them, if the second had gone more willingly on the lead it would have been even closer. 1st is very together and has i believe won lots already and i can see why, very typy, curvy, beautiful head, moves really well. 2nd gorgeous type and I really liked her, moved well in fits and starts. 1 Greyflax Miss Grace; 2 Hyndsight For Your Eyes Only; 3 Kirkojax Thrilling Thistle.

YB (1,1).

NB(1): 1 Lowland Fauns Ianthe at Flaxside, lovely, harsh coated youngster that needs masses of time, pretty head, feet and topline.

SBB (1,1).

PGB (6,2): 1 Greyflax Minnie The Moocher, although she is heavier in head than I prefer she has lots of lovely points to commend her, great type with lots of lovely bone, beautiful dark eye, so balanced front and rear, moved so well, in the challenge she was handled so beautifully that i just had to reward her fabulous breed type; 2 Packway Cora Sundrop at Ollandsheart, very pretty bitch that i really liked, lovely head, good length of body with good shoulders; 3 Beardswood Xanthe.

LB (8,3): The first two are very similiar and it was a very close decision. 1 Kilbourne Danny's Annie, lovely bitch who has the essential type of Deerhound, elegance with strength of bone, lovely front and quarters, great length and depth of quarters; 2 Hyndsight Wicked Game, such a similiar type of girl, great strength but with quality, lovely front and quarters, wished she moved less erratically; 3 Kilbourne Ocean Blue of Matahari.

OB (8,2): Fabulous class. 1 Ch Hyndsight All I Have To Do Is, wow she is absolutely beautiful, strength with quality, great bone and feet, lovely typy head, great strength of neck, blanced front and rear which allowed her to power round the ring, congratulations on breeding such a beautiful bitch, she won the CC and BOB from a great line up of girls; 2 Kilbourne Flora MacDeva, girl that is so nicely put together, balanced all through, not disgraced in this fab class; 3 Ch Hyndsight Neaghley, also another fab girl.
