Midshires Bearded Collie Club
MIDSHIRES BEARDED COLLIE CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW
Sunday, 13 July 2025
I would like to sincerely thank the Club for inviting me to judge at this show; after missing out on the appointment during Covid it was a lovely surprise to be asked to judge again. The show was well run but very hot. The decision to judge outside was already made when I arrived, so I tried my best to offer shade for the exhibitors and their dogs with the limited facilities of a single gazebo. A few dogs were showing signs of being too hot, but most exhibits appeared to be unphased by the conditions.
Thank you to all the exhibitors who attended today. I was very pleased with the quality and numbers of my entry given today’s general size of entry for the boys, and I found several dogs who I felt were worthy of high honours.
Thank you to Tony Burscough, today’s Best In Show judge, for awarding BIS to my CC winner, BVIS to my best BVD winner, and BPIS to my BPD winner. You really made my day!
Minor Puppy Dog (1:0)
1 Osborne’s Potterdale Prime Edition. Just a little over six months and showing like a trooper, this black & white puppy moved well for his handler, not putting a foot out of place. Handsome chap with lovely dark eye, good dentition, and a skull that’s shaping up to be square and flat as he grows. He has good reach and drive and a well-placed shoulder and nicely arched neck, good length and depth of rib and angles that match front and rear. I will be interested to see him grow, and whilst he stood alone today, I’m sure he will win again on many occasions. BPD and ultimately awarded BPIS by the BIS judge.
Puppy Dog (3:0)
1 Mogford’s Monarkshyre Autumnal Guild. Coming up for 10 months, this black & white pup put on a good show for one so young. Very striking in his darkness, he has a dark eye, good dentition, and a good head, leading to a well arched neck. Angles matching front and rear, and he stood with a strong topline. He moved well but just couldn’t match the MPD for BPD.
2 Jellie’s Kiltondale Johnny Cash at Jellwell. Slate & white, heavier set lad of 10.1/2 months. Nicely made and moved well. Just preferred 1 at the moment, but this could change as they grow.3 Buswell’s Chelsasa Private Eye on Scotesham.
Junior Dog (5:0)
1 Collins’ Full Of The Dickens Winner Takes It All for Kingswud (Imp Deu). Slate & white of almost 18 months old. Nice head, eye tones with coat, good bite. Good neck, length and depth of rib, short loin, balanced throughout he moved with good reach and drive to take this class.
2 Carter’s Memorylane Emotions In Motion for Ravenswyre (Imp Fin). I usually dislike cliché’s but the one about “unlucky to meet 1” certainly applies to this lad behind this particular winner. Black & white of almost 18 months this lad is very striking, but just couldn’t match 1 on the move today. Good head and eye, correct dentition, balanced fore and aft and moving well. I’m sure 1 and 2 will change places on many occasions in the future.
3 Reynold’s Beabeardies Bue Velvet
Yearling Dog (4:1)
1 Full Of The Dickens Winner Taks It All for Kingswud (Imp Deu). Took this class on movement again.
2 Bowden’s Subessen The Wonder Of You. Lighter slate of 18 months. Lovely eye colour, good mouth, ok for neck leading to well angled shoulders. Moved with reach and drive but just couldn’t match 1 on the move today. Preferred the shape of this lad to 3.
3 Handley’s Struffingill Maverick at Barkenbear.
Veteran Dog (10:3)
What a class this was. Lots of quality and all a credit to their owners, especially on the move.
1 Garrity/Tibbetts’ Ch Potterdale Andante. Dark slate & white, classically marked dog of just over 8 ½ years. Excellent coat, lovely on the stand, excelled on the move today made possible by his balanced construction. Took this class, beating a litter brother, with ease. Pleased to award him BVD, and he ultimately was awarded BVIS by the BIS judge.
2 Salmon’s Ch Potterdale Piper. Litter brother to 1 and built on similar lines. Very similar to look at, lovely coat, stood and moved well with everything in the right place. I just preferred 1 on the move today.
3 Steer-Eldridge’s Gwalltafwyn Rhodd Unigryw
Special Vintage Dog (3:0)
1 Hodgson/McCourt’s Malandex Xtremely Brown. What a beautiful brown this 10y is, and still striding out around the ring with ease. Great coat, nice head, eyes and correct mouth. A touch bigger than my preference, but there’s no denying his masculinity whatever his size. BVintD
2 Griffiths’ Nellbrook It’s A Mystery at Whizzbomb. 11yr old slate with dark eyes, correct mouth and a lovely coat. Moved well.
3 Buswell’s Corimist Soul Legend of Scotesham
Maiden Dog (1:0)
1 Buswell’s Chelsasa Private Eye on Scotesham. 3rd in PD. Brown & white puppy of 10 months. Not showing at his best today, seemed to be very distracted. Nice eye and head, and correct mouth. Well put together with a lovely length of rib.
Novice Dog (2:0)
1 Brown’s Highglade Reason To Believe. 2yr old slate boy who is taking his time to mature, especially in the coat department. So obviously masculine, there was no denying that, his head is shaping up well and his eye tones with his coat. Correct mouth, nice length of rib and loin. Would like to see him again in another 12 months to see how he’s progressing.
2 Chelsasa Private Eye on Scotesham
Debutant Dog (No entries)
Graduate Dog (7:2)
1 Groenier’s Braemoor’s Bound To Enjoy (Nld). 3yr old dark slate. Nice overall shape, good head and well arched neck. Balanced angulation front and rear, nice length of rib and strong loin. Well-muscled and moved with good reach and drive to win this class.
2 Subessen The Wonder Of You. Second in Yearling.
3 Highglade Reason To Believe. First in Novice.
Post Graduate Dog (3:0)
1 Braemoor’s Bound To Enjoy (Nld) . First in Graduate.
2 Butcher’s Sylvabrae Newton’s Law. Lovely 3yr old blue boy, maturing nicely. Correct mouth, eyes toning with coat, nice angles front and rear. Moved with purpose showing good reach and drive.
3 Cox’s Braesnobel Salt N’Pepper for Coirantee.
Mid Limit Dog (2:0)
1 Glasspool/Gray’s Ungaro De Chester (Imp Fra). 2yr old very dark slate with lovely coat. Liked his size and shape, and correct angles all round. Strong head, good eye and mouth. Nice length of rib and loin. Well muscled, moved with ease. Well deserved RDCC.
2 Braemoor’s Bound To Enjoy (Nld). First in Grad & Post Grad.
Limit Dog (6:1)
1 Moir’s Winaria Wellington JW. Very dark slate 3yr old who was a picture on the stand. Lovely mature coat, good head with dark eyes and correct mouth. Liked his forechest, well arched neck and rib to loin ratio. This lad moved easily around the ring covering the ground with excellent reach and drive to ultimately take the DCC in the Challenge.
2 Lewis’s Potterdale Platnum Jubilee. 3yr old slate, coat maturing nicely. Everything where it should be, he moved around the ring with ease, giving 1 a run for his money.
3 White’s Moonhill Rodney Trotter JW.
Open Dog (8:1)
1 Jay’s Ch Farmaren’s Drums Of Spring at Talraz (Imp Swe) JW. 6yr old dark slate. Nice shape on the stand and held his topline on the move. Masculine head, good eye colour and correct dentition. Nice length of rib and loin. Moved well.
2 Brooks/Grundy’s Ch Fraglestone Family Affair. 5yr old medium slate. Very similar to 1 and much of 1’s critique applies to both. Split decision between these two on the move.
3 Wood’s Pepperjay Bartholomew JW.
Special Open Health Dog (3:0)
1 Bowden’s Subessen Heart Of Rome (Re-import). 6yr old slate of smaller size than some. He has a masculine head with good eye colour and correct mouth. Liked his length of rib. Moved ok.
2 Dumbrell’s Brodaty Limited Edition at Bethlyntee. 6yr old brown who presents a nice shape on the stand. Nice eye, masculine head, good mouth. Just not moving out today.
