Bath Championship Show
26th July 2025
Siberian Huskies.
I was thrilled and delighted to be invited to judge Siberian Huskies at this show and would like to thank the Committee for inviting me. I would also like to take the time to thank my lovely steward who worked hard to keep things moving and me on the straight and narrow! Also, my thanks to all the Siberian folk who took the time to enter under me I had some lovely dogs to go over.
I do have one general remark to make on the breed which is that I was finding too many straight pasterns which are pretty essential for a working breed. Having said that I was very pleased with my main winners and was surprised to see that some of these were related.
Class 2521
Veteran Dog 2 (0)
1. Mrs H J Snelson’s Ch Salazka’s Mr Abernethy at Ashtrax 7 year old black boy who won this class on his movement. Medium sized head with good fox like expression with moderate stop. Ear placement good. Nice tight fitting well pigmented lips. Moderate neck length Well laid shoulder and rear angulation. Good level topline with deep chest and nice spring of rib. Presented in well muscled condition. I was pleased to award him BVIB.
2. Mrs K Tinker’s Multi Ch Zaltana Kiss My Paws at Lolotea JW ShCEx (Imp Pol). Slightly heavier build than one. Really liked this boy’s head which had a good fox like appearance. Well placed ears which were well furred inside and out. Good level topline and angulation at rear slightly better than front. Reasonable tuck up and strong loin. Nice slope of croup leading to a good tail set. Good coat quality.
Class 2522
Minor Puppy Dog 1 (0)
1. Mrs S Jones-Coia’s Icynights Devil in Black (AI). Stood alone but very promising youngster who was a bit unsettled on the day and giving his handler a hard time! Very raw at this stage but a lot to like with his angulation back and front good and good moderate bone and a nice slop of pastern. Well shaped head with correct eye set, and good tight well pigmented lip line. When he settled, he moved out well. Good muscling for his age as well. I look forward to seeing him develop.
Class 2523
Puppy Dog 1 (0)
1. Mr R J & Mrs K I Beirne’s Penkhalas Oka Snowfall. 9 month old boy who is at the all legs stage currently, but maturing up nicely. Head as it should be for this age with a good almond shaped eye. Well furred ears. Length of neck just long enough. Loved his depth of chest and spring of rib with well laid shoulder, medium boning and well sloped pasterns. Rear angulation to match with a good level top line, good depth of chest and spring of rib, nice strong loin. Coat was good quality and he moved out well when he was settled. I was pleased to award him BPIB.
Class 2524
Junior Dog 3 (0)
1. Mrs S & Mr K Hooley’s Dokkalfar’s I am Groot. Dirty faced boy who seemed a tad anxious but showed OK in the end. Not in full coat. Liked his fox like head and expression with correct ear and eye set. Just enough neck. Angulation at rear excellent and reasonable muscling. Good depth of chest and spring of rib. Nice level topline. I will be interested to see how he matures up.
2. Mrs C Spratley’s Winterlumi Wolf Moon. A grey and white boy who had a lot to like but I would prefer a slightly better eye set and hopefully the ear will finish firming up. Liked his neck length and depth of chest. Good straight front. Rear reasonable angulation with good tuck up. Nice level back with a good slope of croup and lovely tail.
3. Mrs K Tinker’s Snowmist’s Eli at Lolotea (Imp Can)
Class 2525
Yearling Dog 2 (0)
1. Mrs C Spratley Siberiadrift Howlaween. Maturing up well with good overall proportions on this boy but would prefer a more refined head. Nice tight lip line. Good medium boning. Super length of neck and reasonable angulation back and front. Moved with ease.
2. Mrs K Tinker’s Snowmist’s Eli at Lolotea (Imp Can). Slightly sturdier built boy who was beautifully presented. Appealing head with correct fox like appearance but would prefer a slightly better ear set. Liked his depth of chest and spring of rib with straight front. Moved steadily.
Class 2526 1 (0)
Novice Dog
1. Miss S L Toomer’s Shaalis Spirit. Black and white boy who was out of coat. Slightly finer boned than ideal but well proportioned leg to body with a good length of neck. A lot to like with his head with a good fox like expression and well set eyes and ears. Liked his rear angulation, depth of chest and spring of rib. Strong loin. Moved out with ease.
Class 2527 7 (1)
Post Graduate Dog
This was quality class where the decisions were made on splitting hairs and a number could change place on a different day.
1. Mr H H & Mrs J M Wakker’s Komaksiut’s Glen Devon Av Ratatuyak at Ceannabeinne (Imp Nld). A fairly young boy but maturing nicely. Presented in good hard condition. Loved his leg to body proportions. Correct bone. Good fox like head with correct eye set, ears a touch wide. Straight and level topline. Correct depth of chest and spring of rib. Angulation back and front as it should be and complemented with a good tail set. Moved out with ease, I was pleased to award him DCC.
2. Mr I & Mrs T E Wakling’s Klewagin Grant Gunnar. A lot to like about this boy as well but he was not always co-operating with his handler to show himself to best effect. A slightly smaller boy than 1 but proportions still all correct. Again, presented in good hard condition. Angulation front and back good but a touch steeper in the pasterns than I would like. Good fox like head with everything in the right place. Very graceful on the move. I was pleased to award him RDCC.

Class 2528 3 (2)

Class 2529 6 (2)
An interesting class.
1. Mrs H J Snelson’s Azgard Monticristo at Ashtrax. A lot to like about this black and white boy who pushed hard in the final line up. He moved out easily and well. I liked his head with its good fox like expression, with good length of planes and good ear placement. Good straight front and reasonable depth of chest and spring of rib. Good level topline with strong loin would just prefer a touch better angle on the croup.
2. Mr H & Mrs B A Morris’s Ch Cwnhapus Innoko JW ShCEx OSW. Classic looking Siberian colourwise and well presented. He had a good breadth of head and other head properties correct. I liked his length of neck which led to matching angulation both front and back. Well boned. Nice level topline with reasonable depth of chest and spring of rib. Good tuck up and tail carriage. In good body condition. Moved out easily.

1. Mr A S & Ms P M Bowering & Evans Penkhalas Kanatara. Very raw young lady who is still growing into herself but a lot to like. Won this class on her movement which was as graceful and economical as I would expect from the breed. I will watch her grow with interest. Very feminine head and expression. Good length of neck leading to good depth of chest. Pasterns a touch straighter than I would like. Angulation overall good. Nice slope of croup. I was pleasantly surprised afterwards that she is the daughter of my RCC winner.

1. Mrs H & Mrs E M Lawes & Doggrell’s Mysticwolf Shining Star over Wintersleigh. Dirty coloured girl with a good easy movement. A lot to like. Presented in well muscled condition. Liked her proportions although would like slightly better pasterns. Lovely feminine head with just enough stop. Good level topline, angulation matching.

3. Ms J D Platt’s Wightflight Irish
Class 2538 3 (0)
Limit Bitch
Another quality class where placed could change on a different day.
1. Evans & Bowerings Penkhalas Keone. I have judged this dog before and felt she would mature up well and she didn’t disappoint. Much of the same comments apply as before but with added maturity. A super outline and a real pleasure to watch on the move with good ground covering movement once she had settled. Construction to match the movement. Presented in good hard condition. Nice depth of rib and tuck up. I see she was mother of my BP. Delighted to award her RCC.
2. Mr H H & Mrs J M Wakker’s Ceannabeinne’s Fast Eddi. Another quality bitch presented in good hard condition. I was hard put to choose between 1 and 2. Very feminine head with good eye and ear set with a nice tight lip line. Liked her proportions overall. Nice easy ground covering movement. Good quality coat.
