Scottish Kennel Club

Breed: Dachshund (Miniature Long Haired)

Thank you to the SKC committee for inviting me to judge dachshunds today. My steward was very efficient and ensured the ring was kept going, plus really great with exhibitors, a joy to have in the ring.

I was very impressed with my main winners. Many I like stacked but when, examined on table and moving weren't as they first appeared. Size was generally ok and some very promising youngsters. Front assembly is something that should be looked at, many lacking layback of shoulder, length and return of upper arm and proper front extension. Pigment in some was also lacking. Temperaments overall were excellent. I thoroughly enjoyed my day and there was a great atmosphere around the ring.

Puppy Dog (4,4)

Class of babies judged on the move as still young and as they should be full of naughtiness and character.

1ST Dolyharp Rossini at Garbosa (Mrs L Brown). Good pigment and coat. Well bodied youngster with good width and spring of rib. Moved away and back true. In profile kept shape and held a good topline.

2ND Scrumptious Red On The Dot (Mrs C May). Different type to 1 but lots to like. Lovely tight feet. Held a super topline on the move and stack. Excellent bend of rear stifle, not quite the front of 1. When settled moved well.

3RD Hanburydax Life of Riley (Mrs V Findlay)

Junior Dog (5,5)

1ST Zarcrest Red in The Room JW (Miss O & Mr L Dalton & Beach). Well filled front and good depth, still with clearance on the move. Lovely dark pigment. Moved away and back true. Held a good topline and kept shape on the move. Has real presence in the ring and demands attention. Went well in the challenge to gain ResCC.

2ND Rivandell Sirius Black (Mr L Thomson). A lovely youngster with plenty of time. Super houndy head with excellent expression. Lovely shape on the stack and held on the move. Moved away and back true with strong topline. Good hammy rear used to power round the ring. Needs to finish maturing and fill out in front, but all there one to watch. Delighted to award BSpB and see shortlisted in the group.
