Breed: Dachshund (Wire Haired)

SKC- Dachshund (Wires) May 2025

Thank you to the SKC committee for inviting me to judge dachshunds today. My steward was very efficient and ensured the ring was kept going, plus really great with exhibitors, a joy to have in the ring.

I was very impressed with the depth of quality today and the promising youngsters in the breed.

Puppy Dog (3,3)

1st Patton’s Lesandnic State Man. Everything in moderation and a very promising puppy. Lovely shape which was kept on the move. Excellent head and expression. Good length to height ratio and ground clearance. Good front and rear angulation. Well ribbed. Away and back true. Lovely clean lines and one I’ll watch as he matures. Delighted to see him shortlisted in a lovely puppy group. BPD, BPIB

2nd Harvey’s Skyswift Mystic Way. A boy with good width. Good front and rear angulation. Lovely head and expression. Kept a lovely topline on move and stacked. Still very much a baby and needs to tighten in front, good rear drive.

3rd Corner’s Carcorn Chrissy's Legend.

Junior Dog (1,1)

1st Carruthers & Smith’s Aust Ch Wyredach Travel N Man to Stanegate. Lovely head into nice neck, good bone and super big feet. Would have likes slightly more upper arm. Moved away and back true. Good overall balanced shape and held a lovely shape on the move.

Post Graduate Dog (1,1)

1ST Rowe’s Boloria Goodnight Mr Tom JW. Lovely balanced young man with a super overall outline. Good head with lovely expression. Moved with purpose and ‘could go all day’. Held a good topline on the move. Good front and rear angulation. Super coat. Shown in super condition. Delighted to award ResCC

Limit Dog (3,3)

Lots to like about these two litter mates and many of the same comments apply.

1ST Moore's Cloudside Vincent. Young man with a super head and substance throughout. Good coat. Moved away and back true, topline fine on the move. Good hammy rear and a lovely type. Preferred his reach and drive on the move today.

2ND Christie's Cloudside Valentino at Decalleigh JW. Another of good type from this kennel, slightly more compact. A well-balanced male of good substance and shown in excellent condition. Lovely tight feet, held a good topline on the move. Just not the rear drive of 1.

3RD Farrington's Dollydash Defender of Faith

Open Dog (4,4)

1st Carruthers’ Ch Aikton Alexander at Stanegate. A dog I have previously judged and he didn’t disappoint today. A real showman in excellent condition. Lovely head and intelligent expression. Good front and rear construction with good return and length of upper arm and hammy rear, which he uses to power round the ring- effortless and one I am sure ‘could go all day’. Away and back true. Super topline with correct tail set and carriage. Coat of good texture. Delighted to award him CC, BOB and lovely to see him open up further in big ring and be shortlisted in Hound Group.

2ND Howlett & Phillips’ Ch Tendrow Malibar JW. Another quality male, still a youngster and one to watch as everything there, just needs time to mature. Super coat. Good head and expression in a lovely arched neck. Clean well placed front with best of feet. Super bone and width throughout. Lovely tight elbows, true away and back. Held a good topline, kept his super shape on the move. One worthy of his title so young.

3RD –Tinker's Dollydash Never Enough

Veteran Dog (1,1)

1ST Patton’s Ir Ch Lesandnic Ludovic. Lovely head and expression. Held a super hard topline throughout. Best of coats. Lovely tight feet. Good height to length ratio. A balanced outline. Would have liked more rear drive.

Puppy Bitch (2,2)

Two lovely babies, who have lots to like but still very raw and need time.

1ST Corner’s Carcorn Chrissy's Girl. Lovely head and expression, good neck. Has good angles front and back, with super hammy rear. Good topline on the move. Good width throughout and lovely ribbing. Would like a little shorter overall, but still young so hasn’t finished and as learns to show will hold herself on stack better.

2ND Patton’s Lesandnic Soul Sister. Good head and expression. Neck and forechest good. Tight elbows and moved away and back true. Little long in loin. Moved really well in profile covering the ground with ease. Will watch as she drops into herself and matures.

Junior Bitch (3,3)

What a promising and lovely class. Girls with a very bright future.

1ST Howlett & Rowe’s Boloria Oh Darling. Absolutely loved this girls head and expression and the rest of her didn’t disappoint. Hands just flower over her with ease, with everything in the right place. Shown in super condition and excellent coat. Good front and rear angulation, which she used to purposefully glide round the ring. Lovely shape on the stack which she held on the move. Delighted to award the CC.

2ND Paterson’s Brumberhill Biscuit to Ambiesque. Another of excellent quality and oozes breed type. Shown in super condition. Lovely head, super neck into correct front assembly. True away and back holding a good topline on the move. Good hammy rear which gave correct rear drive. She still has a little maturing to do, but couldn’t be denied the ResCC.

3RD Dickinson's Dakotadax Legend of Zelda

Post Graduate Bitch (2,2)

2nd Dickinson’s Derdledash Skyfall at Dakotadax JW. Lovely head and expression. Longer type than 1. Good tight feet. Moved away well. Would benefit from more front and rear angulation. Good wire coat.

Limit Bitch (3,2)

1ST Patton's Lesandnic Love. Super head and expression. Good topline on stack and shape. Liked her rear drive. Still needs to mature. Good keel, depth and ribbing.

2ND Dickinson's Derdledash Dakota at Dakotadax. Balanced front and rear, good width of front. Coat was good, but ready for a tidy. Lovely bone. Good height to length ratio and clearance.

Open Bitch (6,4)

Both lovely ladies, you just gave way to Juniors who were on form today.

1ST Rowe's Ch Boloria Nice'n Spicy JW. Good head with super expression. Good bone and dense wire coat. Another who filled hands well. Lovely tight feet. Good rear drive, which she uses well on the move. Would ideally like a little more front angulation. True away and back.

2ND Carruthers & North-Row's Ir Ch Stanegate Simona Cw24 Cjw24. Another girl I really liked, just felt today not balance of 1 and carrying over front. Good head and front assembly. Held a good topline on the move. Super coat and again shown n lovely condition. True way and back.

3RD‘s Corner Cishelvine Portia at Carcorn

Special Beginners Bitch (2,1)

1ST Dickinson's Dakotadax Legend of Zelda. Good coat. Balanced front and back. Move true away and back. Nice head . Held a good topline on the move. Good tight feet.
