I’d like to thank the Association for inviting me to judge my breed. Thanks go to my efficient and friendly stewards, and to the cleaning person who got us out of a sticky situation. The show was well run and had a Christmassy vibe. The ring was a good size, and warm. It was a joy to go over the dogs as I had not seen or judged any of them before.
Without exception coats were of a texture, colour, and length that fit the breed standard. Temperaments were, as I expect in the breed, exemplary. Last time I judged in 2022 I mentioned tails. The breed standard calls for tails to be slightly low set and carried horizontally when moving. Today tails that were carried horizontally were in a tiny minority. As were slightly sloping croups. The tail is an indicator to the set of the pelvis, and the muscles attached to the pelvis and croup. It is not a separate entity to the rest of the dog that can be ignored if it’s not correct. I can overlook a tail carried high due to attitude. Tails curled over the back, tails pointing straight up, and sickle tails are correct in some breeds because they reflect the rear assembly. There’s a reason why the HWV breed standard calls for a slightly sloping croup and a tail carried horizontally and low set, that is to contribute towards a correct rear assembly to do they job they were bred for..Breeders please do not disregard incorrect tail set and carriage as something that just spoils a dog’s outline on the move. The tail is a very visual clue as to the set of the pelvis.” A dog is no better than its tail”. (Dog in Action. McDowell Lyon).

1st Enryb Purple People Eater (J Byrne). Almost 12 month old. Impressive, robust and substantial dog. Excellent coat of a darker shade. Straight front. Good depth. Correct height to length.I liked the way he looked at me with an air of superiority. His movement was steady, consistent, and confident. Nothing flashy about him, he is medium and moderate as he should be. He is finished, or almost, and will mellow into his frame as he matures. I thought he was super and worthy of the Res CC.
2nd Twelveoaks Idaho Morganna. 7 month old well boned puppy. Straight front. Correct height to length but as expected at his age his frame is underdeveloped. He stands over a decent amount of ground for one so young. Correct head with a kind expression and dark eye. Dark coat that befits his stage and age. He moved with confidence and reliability.

1st Zoldmali Hunter Saman (imp). (A Senior). Dark coat with good texture but a bit sporadic in coverage. I liked his head and furnishings. He is robust with good bone. Deep brisket. He is a little tall on the leg, that may change as he matures. Moderate angulation at rear. I’d like more upper arm length and angle and shoulder angulation for balance. This dog had a slightly sloping croup. He moved with purpose and seriousness.Tendency to move a little wide at back.

1st Twelveoaks Good Pippin. (R.Court). I loved this dog’s head. He has a distinguished look. He’s a nice shape and make although I’d like a longer coat for protection. Good bone. Straight front. Moderate angulation and in good condition. He moved steadily.
2nd Haywire Texana Vadasz (M Campbell).Masculine dog of good size. NIce head but preferred 1. Eyes could darken.Moderate angulation and in great muscular condition which showed in his movement.
3rd. King Fox to Tragus. (G Upton).

1st Sh Ch Belatarr Kodiak. (JS and D Spillane). Upstanding male who commands your attention. Dark correct coat covering his body. Good bone and a clean outline. Head giving a square appearance, dark eye, but if I’m being picky I’d prefer slightly more oval. He is in great condition and holds himself with an air of haughtiness. Correct height to length. Straight front. Deep brisket. Moderate angulation. He moves true and precise from every angle. He was easily my CC winner.
2nd Ewtor Blue Moon (L Moss). Super coat on this correct length to height dog. His head and expression are just lovely. He has good bone. Straight front. He has a balanced front and rear. He oozes that typical Wire temperament. He didn't quite settle into his movement and moved a bit close behind.
3rd Zoldmali Ezmi (imp) (A Tasker).

1st Starshot Overwatch (S Swanson). Although this was a seen dog I did go over him as I’d only had a light touch in PD. 10 month old dog. Dark thick coat of good texture. He’s a handsome dog with a typical head. Difficult to assess him and he needs some gentle, kind guidance of what is expected of him in the ring. He moved on a long, if unsettled stride. It was a shame he didn't come back to be awarded Best SB.
Good Citizen Scheme. No Entries.

1st Belatarr Jupiter. 8 year old upstanding dog. He looked at me with his gentle eyes as if to say "I've seen and done it all”! Good bone, clean outline, he is taut and muscled. Good coat: texture and thickness. He exuded calmness and reliability. On the move he was no different. Steady, precise, nothing overdone. Best Veteran.

1st Enryb Tickle Me Purple. Almost 12 month old bitch. Golden sand coat of correct texture and length. She took my eye straight away with her balance and flowing lines. She has substantial bone with strength. She is a little high on the leg at the moment but I couldn't take my eyes off her. Her angulation is moderate and balanced, I like a big bum and she had one. Her length to height is spot on, her topline firm, she’s well ribbed back, and she had a slightly sloping croup. She has a pretty head with that melting Wire expression.I hope her eyes darken. She moved, sorry, flowed, round the ring with a tail that was carried horizontally. I loved her, and she has a place on my sofa any day. Best Puppy.
2nd Twelveoaks Red Delicious. (R Court). 7 month old bitch. Dark super coat. I loved her bone and shape. Straight front. Correct length to height. Correct head. She moved soundly. A promising puppy.

1st Zoldmali Hunter Vica of Zoltarour (imp). (Z Dicker). I liked this bitch for size and shape. She has balanced angles front and rear. She could be deeper in brisket but that might come with maturity. Her head is correct with a super expression. I’d like a darker eye. She has a superb body covering coat. She is moderate in size and bone, and very feminine. When moved on a loose lead I could see her animated gait, and her correct tail carriage.Considered for Res CC
2nd Fradaikee Just Like Fire (T Pryer). Strong and substantial with a dark correct coat. Very different make to 1. Correct head and furnishings. Moderate and medium all through. Straight front. Deep brisket, would prefer longer ribs.Balanced angulation. She was a steady and precise mover.
3rd Miadsc Tropical Fizz at Kitrage. (K Bryant).

1st Holsan Wild Ginger (EK and S Bendikas). WOW! My find of the day. This bitch oozes breed type. Golden sand, correct, full body covering coat. Strength, substance, and elegance. I don’t need to individually describe each area of this bitch because each area flowed into the next. As my eyes scanned from her nose to her tail tip there was not a single lump or bump. Her head and expression epitomises a Wire. Her front assembly is a rare find in the breed. Pro sternum and upper arm length, and angle. This gives her correct lay of shoulder, a seamless neck into a firm topline, big bum, and slightly sloping croup. I said I wasn't going to describe her……….!. She is nothing more than medium and moderate on the stack, a beautiful picture, but medium. On the move she uses her length and rear to power with elegance and grace, AND a correct tail carriage. I absolutely loved her. CC and BOB. Her first but surely there’s plenty more to come. I was thrilled that the Gundog Group judge appreciated this superb bitch and awarded her the Gundog Group.
2nd Stockgrove Pumpkin to Tragus (G Upton). Dark coated feminine bitch.Very different to my winner and she tried to hide her lovely shape and type under a bushel. I saw through this. She has super angles front and rear, good bone and a straight front. Nothing overdone or lacking throughout. She moved well even though she did try to wear the cloak of invisibility. Res CC
3rd Fradaikee Private Dancer. (T Pryer).

1st Sh Ch Enryb Tickled Pink. Such a lot to like about this well made bitch. Pretty head with furnishings that finish it off. Superb coat. Well off for bone and substance, but still feminine. Straight front. Correct height to length. Short, level back. Well let down brisket. She moved steadily, but was wide coming towards.
