Hungarian Wirehaired Vizsla Association
HWVA – Breed Open Show – Saturday 15th March, 2025
I would first like to thank the HWVA Committee and membership for inviting me to judge this wonderful breed. My association with the breed started over 20 years ago, and remains close to my heart. I thoroughly enjoyed my day judging the open show at the Royal Kennel Club buildings, the atmosphere ringside was warm and supportive – a real pleasure to be part of.
I would especially like to thank; my lovely steward on the day Rita Cemis for keeping us in order and ticking along very nicely. In addition, all of the exhibitors who entered under me, and stayed after the Championship show, making it a long day. I had the privilege of going over some real quality exhibits.

1. J. Whitworth’s Twelveoaks Hot Red Toddy, 6 mnths. Didn’t this young man enjoy his day! His head is of correct proportions with nose and eye colour harmonising with furnishings which gave an almost square appearance. Good length of upper arm, chest will no doubt drop to elbow as he matures. He is well ribbed with short coupling, and correct wire coat. Well-constructed rear, standing on tight neat feet.
2. R. Newman’s Morganna Caen, 8 mnths. Head of correct proportions with correct bite and straight bridge of nose and moderate stop, lighter eye than 1 that may darken as he matures. Moderate neck into well laid shoulders, will no doubt drop in chest as he matures. Good spring of rib, didn’t have the harsh wire coat of 1. Nice sweep of stifle over tight feet.

1. G. Upton’s King Fox to Tragus, 11 mnths. This young man is a masculine, mature well balanced puppy. He has correct head, with skull slightly longer than muzzle, kind eye, plenty of furnishings with a good wide nose. Moderate well-muscled neck with plenty in front and elbows tight to chest. He’s well ribbed and short coupled with a fantastic double coat. He has correct tail set and a well-muscled rear which saw him move effortlessly around the ring. I think there is a lot more to come for this young man, and look forward to seeing him mature BPD, BPIS.
