Driffield Championship Dog Show

Breed: Weimaraner

DRIFFIELD CHAMP SHOW (49TH SHOW) 23RD AUGUST 2025

WEIMARANER

Thank you to the exhibitors that entered under me, I had a lovely quality entry and was very happy with my winners. I thoroughly enjoyed my day, and thanks also to Driffield Championship Dog Show for the kind invite to judge.

The breed has quite a variation in type than it did when I first started, but I was looking for a medium sized, moderate and balanced dog that the breed standard calls for. Together with balanced correct angulation, a length of body that is greater than its height to withers, not a square dog, a level topline and movement that is effortless with reach and drive. To find a dog that also has the preferred silver grey colour is the icing on the cake. It was disappointing to find a few dogs that were overweight and even lacked a waist, this is a working breed and they should be fit for function and be able to do a days work in the field.

SBD (1)

1. Jennings’s Wallaroo Romeo JW. 3 year old with a pleasing outline. Good head proportions and correct ear length. Clean neck into well laid back shoulders and corresponding upper arm. Moderate rear angulation with a good bend of stifle. Would prefer a slightly better topline, as it tends to fall away to his tail when he is stacked. He moved well. BSBIB.

VD (3)

1. McMahon’s Ir Sh Ch Silverkelvin Jupiter Over Magdala VW CW22. 7 year old who is smart in outline with an aristocratic air about him, and a lovely coat of a silver grey colour. Head of correct proportions, moderate stop and median line. Straight forelegs, moderate length of neck into a good layback of shoulder and a level topline. Moderate rear angulation, and well muscled all over. Moved well around the ring. BVIB.

2. Snaith’s Skilaki Move On Up To Bifonda JW. 7 year old of a good type and liked his balanced outline. Beautiful head and expression, median line and good ear length. Straight forelegs and good bone. Excellent front assembly and matching rear angulation. Level topline and preferred his length of back to 1, but he was a bit heavy overall today and was struggling a bit in the heat. Excellent length of rib to correct short loin. Moved ok but not giving his all today.

3. Maclaine & Dickson’s Greyspirit Rock Star From Hantzburg JW ShCEx OSW VW

1. Charlish’s Gunalt The Morning After. 11 month old, liked him for his clean outline and his medium size and he was moderate throughout with nothing overdone. Some work to his head, depth to flew and good ear length. He is clean in neck which flows into a level topline, I would prefer more length to his body to finish the picture. He is correct in coat which is of a good colour. He moved out on a good stride. BPD.

2. Hawkin’s Schonhund Show At The Oscars. Almost 12 months old, he has a pleasing outline with correct proportions. He has a lovely masculine head with good proportions. Straight forelegs and a good depth to chest. Correct fore and aft angulation, with a good return of upper arm. Level topline and I preferred his length of back but overall a bigger and heavier type than 1 with a darker coat. Moved well around the ring.

1. Whitehead’s Gunalt Back Chat From Stridview. Almost 18 months old he is well put together and has a pleasing clean outline and is medium sized and moderate throughout. Masculine head with correct proportions. Moderately long neck into good shoulders and flows into a level topline, would just prefer a little more length of body for balance. Lovely rear quarters that are well muscled and a good bend of stifle. He moved very well around the ring.

2. Guthrie’s Sireva Mayhem. 15 months old medium sized moderate dog of a silver grey colour. Typical in head with correct proportions, moderate stop, median line and work in his head. Correct length of ear with fold. Moderate angulation fore and aft. He tends to tense his topline on the stack but when relaxed shows a level topline. Moved well.

1. Simpson’s Ch Sireva Emeyefive JW. A 4 year old and my notes say ‘Typical Weimaraner’ and for me he is what the breed standard calls for. Excellent silver grey colour and beautiful pigment, medium sized with nothing overdone. Love his flowing and clean outline from his nose to his tail. Correct head proportions with a moderate stop, good depth to flew and correct ears, and a big nose to take in all that scent. Clean moderately long neck that flows into well laid back shoulders, and into a level topline. He has a good return of upper arm, and is deep in chest. Correct body proportions in that he is longer than he is tall, and also correct leg length, being equal to the distance from the top of withers to the elbow. Moderate rear angulation and hocks well let down. He moved out on a very good stride and was true from all angles. CC and BOB.

2. Phillips’s Sh Ch Rivertone Retrograde. 2 year old smart boy of differing type to 1. Liked his body proportions and length of back. Beautiful but masculine head with a kind expression, and lovely length of ear. Clean neck into a good front assembly. Level topline and correct underline. Just preferred the medium size of 1. Showed good reach and drive in profile movement.
