Breed: Spaniel (Welsh Springer)

Welsh Springer Spaniel Club 3rd May 2025

Special Awards Classes

I was really pleased to be invited to judge at this well-run breed show. Every time I’ve been to a Welsh Springer Spaniel event, I’ve been made to feel so welcome—and today was no different. The show was beautifully organised, and there was such a lovely, friendly atmosphere throughout the day.

Junior (10, 3A): Gaylor & Robertson’s 1 Gilstonia Run Red Rum for Aprilflash, 14 months male, the most together at this stage both standing & moving. Nice to go over, well muscled and taut throughout with well-muscled quarters that you can see when he powers around the ring. Good front assembly & angulation, stands on tight round feet, well presented; 2 Harrison’s Glenbrows Rhyme, pretty head, stacks up lovely when settled, firm topline, correct bend of stifle, moved well once settled. Lovely shine to coat. Needs to fill out through the front but only a baby at 14 months; 3 Cooper & Mullin’s Gilstonia Maggie May.

Post Graduate (4, 1A): 1 Chines’ Bronnydene Fly Red Kite, quality dog of nearly 2 years, lovely to go over & in good condition. Dark eye, slightly domed skull, sloping shoulders, good angulation & firm topline, lovely mover & tidy round feet, well presented; 2 Johnstone’s Glenbrows Erasmus for Gilpeta, dog of nearly 2 years, clean neck, strength through the forearms, good rear angulation. A shade wide in front; 3 Levy’s Cerysan Limited Edition.

Open (6, 1A): Close decision between 1 & 2. 1 Gaylor & Robertson’s Sh Ch Heniveruce King of Brewers for Aprilflash ShCEx, masculine 5 year old male, good bone, nice chiselling under eyes, well made though the front, strong bone, firm topline, in lovely muscled condition, moved with some power in his engine & very well presented; 2 Stevenson’s Sh Ch Mymmsbrook Matador with Blythway JW SjCEX, OSW, I have done well for this lovely boy before, matured now at 4 years & still so full of quality. Lovely friendly disposition & lovely to go over with a super condition to his coat, excellent ribbing, tight feet, moved well with muscled quarters. Just preferred the arch of loin of 1; 3 Ward’s Glenbrows Flame for Tantaraviz.
