Four Counties Beagle Club
Thank you to the committee for the invitation to award my first set of Challenge Certificates at your show, held in conjunction with Darlington Championship Show. Thank you to my very efficient steward who managed the ring well while exhibitors ran between us and the neighbouring ring. And to the exhibitors I thank you for your entry and allowing me the opportunity to judge your hounds. I was very pleased with both the dog and bitch line up, where there were many hounds who, in my opinion, would be worthy of a CC.

1st Dawson & Goodall’s Rundle Gambler
7 month old tan and white, who has everything in the right place. He has a very appealing head, masculine without any coarseness and with good pigment. Lengthy neck, well laid-back shoulders and a level topline, which he holds well on the move. Correct forechest. Correct tail set and carriage. Good turn of stifle, a little loose when moving away today but plenty of time to tighten and I will look forward to watching him mature. An exciting youngster.

1st Hardisty’s Blunderhall Jackson
10 month old tri of a good size. Soft expression with good pigment and correct ear placement, defined stop. Moderate all through with a good length of neck leading to a compact body and level topline, short coupled and with a good spring of rib for one so young. Good muscle tone & tight feet. He is nicely balanced all through and moves accurately coming and going. BPD.
2nd Stuart’s Boskenna Prince Charming
Similar type to 1st. 9 month old tri with lots to like. He has good bone and rear angulation, moving parallel away. Masculine head, enough neck leading to a level topline and correctly set tail. Heavier over the shoulders than 1 today and more upright.
3rd Matthew’s Carvaha Barney Rubble
Junior Dog

1st Lewis’ Fallowfield Charming Boy
I liked this boy very much. He has the nicest of heads with super pigment. Very good neck and lay back of shoulder, well ribbed back and short coupled. Presents a balanced overall picture on the stack and has excellent profile movement. I did consider him for the RCC today but felt he needs to body up and then he will trouble the best.
2nd Fallon’s Molesend Jackpot
Tan and white of a larger mold but so very sound moving in all directions. Very nice expression, masculine and free from wrinkle. I liked him very much.
3rd Binks’ Tannahill Knockout
Yearling Dog

1st Macdougall’s Mackhovie Elladan
Pleasing head proportions with a kind expressive eye, strong neck and level topline. He has good bone and stands on neat feet. In excellent condition today to show off his good reach and drive in profile, striding effortlessly around the ring.
2nd Murphy’s Bayard Seal of Approval At Rhosyndu JW
Very little to separate these two who have the same sire and are very similar in type. Soft expression, although masculine. Ample neck, tidy shoulders and a level topline. He moves on an effortless stride around the ring. Appeared heavily muscled behind, which spoilt his rear movement and therefore he had to settle for 2nd today.

3rd in puppy. 9 month old hare pied being a typical young male, giving his handler a challenging time on the move today. He is a rangy hound with good head proportions and free from wrinkle, dark pigment. Good length of neck and correctly set on tail, carried well and merry. Good reach and drive in profile and good width of chest. Moving a little close behind today. Young and energetic with plenty of time to settle.

2nd Kingsland’s Carvaha Artful Dodger From Redcap
9 month old tan and white who has a lovely head and expression. He has much to like with everything in the correct place when going over him. Good length of neck, leading into correct shoulders and a level topline, which is held on the move. He strides out well in profile, showing reach and drive. Not as settled in front as 1st but should improve with maturity.

1st Pocklington-Hall’s Bayard Bee Good
Compact 2 year old tan and white with a masculine head. Level topline and short coupled. Balanced front to rear angulation and a good profile mover, carrying himself well on the go around. Moving out close behind today.
2nd Hooper’s Davricard Jacobean At Torbers
Difficult to separate these two as they both have very different virtues. Again this 2 year old tri presents a nice outline from head, through neck and topline and strides out well in profile, once his confidence builds. Moving parallel behind, a bit heavy through the chest for me.

1st Lewis’ Fallowfield Romeo
2 year old tri who is a very nice type, typical of this kennel, especially of years gone by. Again, like his younger kennel mate he has a lovely head neck and shoulders, level topline, well ribbed back with a strong short loin. Free from any exaggeration and showing foot perfect reach and drive.
2nd Banks’ Forgebanks Santiano
2 year old tan and white who I have always admired him from ringside, especially for his free flowing movement. He moves soundly in all directions and presents a balanced outline on the stack, holding his topline on the move. He appeared a little heavy in rear today and I preferred the head of 1st.

1st Parker & Stevens’ Ch. Serenaker Armani
This dog has all the characteristics the breed standard asks for, he is merry, bold, has great activity, alert and of an even temperament. At 5 years of age he is as good as he was a couple of years back. Soft, appealing expression, head of equal proportions with dark pigment. Going over him he doesn’t disappoint. Strong neck leading to correct shoulders, straight legs and good feet. Compact, level topline and strong loin. Where he excels is in rear movement, which he uses to effortlessly drive around the ring and he is foot perfect coming and going. Pleased to award him DCC and BIS.
2nd Havard’s Ch. Annavah Justify
Another that I have admired from ringside and a very worthy champion. At just 2 years of age he is in his prime. He has a correct head shape, which is appealing and a kind eye. Good length of arched neck into correct shoulders. Straight legs and good feet. Level topline and correct set on stern, carried well. He has an effortless free flowing side gait. RCC in good company.

He has a good shaped head with defined stop, nicely arched neck into a solid level topline and well sprung ribs. Well angulated behind. He presents an overall balanced picture and it was a joy to see him challenge for best veteran against the bitch who has the same sire. BVD.

It was a pleasure to go over this bitch, I am not surprised she is a champion. Beautiful head with moderate width, strong lengthy arched neck and super shoulders. She has a very good spring of ribs and is short coupled. I could see that she is not the easiest bitch to show but her virtues shine through the naughtiness and I was pleased to award her the BCC today.
2nd Hunt’s Bondlea Cherished
A good honest bitch who is sound. Feminine in head with a kind dark eye. Good length of neck, level topline and correct set on of stern. She has an effortless free stride in profile and is true fore and aft.

1st Lewis’s Fallowfield Merry
There is a pattern here of this kennel producing hounds with very good head, neck and shoulders. She is of a type that pleases me with an unexaggerated side gait, plenty of rear and drive and parallel rear movement. Her ribs are well back and she is short coupled.

1st Criag’s Davricard Melody
A compact bitch with balanced angulation. She has a very pleasing expression, as is common from this kennel.
True movement fore and aft. A little hesitant on the go around but saw enough reach and drive for her to win the class.
2nd Hooper’s Bijou Tosha Avec Torbers (Imp Lva)
Different type to winner. In good hard condition and moved soundly when looking from all directions. Compact with strong loin. Carries her tail over her back.

1st Havard’s Teardrop
My surprise of the day. Presents a very nice outline when stacked and on going over her she has a beautiful head and expression. Straight legs with just the right amount of bone and very good feet. Correct amount of forechest. Well laid shoulders, good spring of ribs and short coupled. On the move she is foot perfect coming and going and has unexaggerated profile movement with good reach and drive. I really liked her and wasn’t going to let her typical beagle naughtiness stop her from winning the RCC today.
2nd Goldberg’s Jazzy JW
Another lovely bitch who portrays a look of quality and breed type . Feminine head with good pigment. Arched neck of good length and is compact and balanced. She moves soundly in all directions and was unlucky to meet 1st today.

2nd Stuart’s Kellitcreed Frozen Assets
Same type as 1st, with good substance. Pleasing head shape, compact body and balanced angulation. Moved well fore and aft, would benefit from moving a little slower in profile I feel.

A bitch I have judged in her youth and at 8 years old she has aged very well. She presents a very pleasing overall outline, balanced with nothing overdone. Solid topline and moved true fore and aft. Her profile movement was a joy to watch, and I was pleased to award her BVB and BVIS.
