Richmond Dog Show Society

Breed: Spaniel (American Cocker)

I was really sad to hear the news that Mike Bottomley (Boduf) had passed away a couple of days before this show and felt it appropriate to have a minute’s silence for him before commencing with the judging. He was a huge influence in the breed after all.

Many thanks to my stewards Claire & John for their efficiency.

Not the biggest entry but I was delighted with my principle winners and was impressed with the muscle tone and condition of every single exhibit. All but one had correct dentition.

1st: 4321 JENNINGS, Mr D K & BEDDING, Miss H Alibama That's My Boy

This 8 month old buff boy is something special. He has the most beautiful head & expression. He has a good length of neck into well laid shoulders, he has good depth and width of chest, ribs well back, short loin and a well angulated rear. His topline & tailset are correct and he is extremely accurate on the move for one so young. Thrilled to see him go onto to win group 3 in the puppy group.

1st: 4322 NIESSEN, Mrs Ann Little Life Zimply Champagne (imp Fin)

A quality boy who was beautifully presented. Good head with plenty of work in it. I’d like a touch more lay back of shoulder and length of upperarm but otherwise, this is a nicely constructed dog who moved nicely.

Class 2374 LD (3 Entries) Abs: 1

This class could have gone either way as both are very nice examples of the breed but my winner just had the edge on the move.

1st: 4316 DUMMETT, Ms B & VIKHROVA, Ms T Nova Story Boogie Woogie JW (Imp)

A smart boy with a lovely head. Good length of neck, a touch short in upperarm, good topline and tailset. Ribs well back, short loin and a well angulated rear. Shorter coupled than 2. Presented nicely and moved really well.

2nd: 4324 SALVAGE, Miss Teigan Unveiledjaclee Ace Of Hearts (Imp) Fra

Another with a lovely head and I preferred his front angulation to my winner. Ribs well back, short loin and a decent rear. He was just lethargic on the move and went round with his head hanging over his lead and in doing so, he threw his win away. Would love to see him on form! Nicely presented.

When I judged the minor puppy class, I truly didn’t think I’d find another male that would beat my winner but then this stunner walked into Open! He is quite breathtaking. His head is masculine without being coarse, he has a good length of neck into well laid shoulders and good return of upperarm. His chest is deep and has good width to it, his topline and tailset are text book. His ribs are well back, he has a nice short loin and he has a muscular well angulated rear. He is presented in immaculate condition with nary a hair out of place. On the move, he almost glides around, showing tremendous reach and drive and with completely accurate footfall. He had to take the CC today and later BOB and I was chuffed to see him take Group 3.

2nd: 4313 BEDDING, Miss Hannah & JENNINGS, Mr D k Sh Ch Alibama Knockout JW

Another quality example of the breed who was unlucky to meet my winner on such top form. He has a lovely head and good angles front and rear, I’d just like him to have a bit more width all through. Presented beautifully and moved well.

1st: 4320 JENNINGS, Mr D K & BEDDING, Miss H Alibama She's A Peach

Not as mature as her brother who took BP today. She has the prettiest of heads and is beautifully constructed all through. A touch erratic on the move but I saw enough to see that she is sound and accurate. I’m sure that once she bodies up and drops into her frame, she will trouble the best of them.

Lots to like about this quality black bitch. She has a lovely head with plenty of work in it and correct ear set and length. She has a particularly good front with good lay back of shoulder and return of upperarm. Firm topline, ribs well back, short loin and a well angulated rear. As with all from this clever breeder, she was superbly presented. She moved really well – happily and accurately. In the challenge, I didn’t initially think she would take the big green card but it was like she read my mind and switched up a gear on the final go round to really show me what she could do and thus, she had to have it.

1st: 4312 ARCHER, Ms Suzanne Zarcrest After Cut For Tallisbay

I really liked this bitch and considered her for the RCC. She has a lovely head and expression though I’d like a touch more width to her muzzle. She is well constructed all through and foot perfect on the move. Nicely presented.

Class 2382 LB (2 Entries) Abs: 0

1st: 4325 SUNTER, Mrs L & PINCHEN, Miss Ruby Kenoula No Regrets

An impressive bitch with a feminine head, good length of neck into well angulated shoulders. Good topline/tailset. Good depth and width of chest. Well angulated muscular rear and moved really well. Beautifully presented. On the initial stack in the challenge, I thought she was going to be my CC winner but the junior bitch pipped her to it on the move.

2nd: 4318 IREMONGER, Miss P A Moonmist Twinkle Toes

Another very nice bitch with a lovely head. Shorter in neck than my winner, decent angles front and rear and a good topline. In lovely condition. Just a touch erratic on the move today but the ring was extremely uneven.

Class 2383 OB (2 Entries) Abs: 0

1st: 4314 BETTS, Mrs A & MURRAY, Miss Ellen Sanelle Picholine

Won this class as I preferred her neck and shoulders. She is a nicely put together bitch with correct topline, ribs well back and short loin. She moved accurately and was nicely presented.

2nd: 4315 DUMMETT, Ms B Almondsbury The Pop Kids JW

This is a quality 4 yr old, I just found her a little heavy all through and she was carrying a lot of that weight over her shoulders which spoil her outline. She is well made with decent angles front and rear and has a lovely head. Moved ok and was well handled.
