Devon, Cornwall and South West Beagle Club Championship Show

4th May 2025

Firstly, I wish to thank the club for the invite to judge their final show. I had a very enjoyable day but a sad feeling it was the end of a very friendly and welcoming club also thanks to Sam Goldberg my steward for keeping the ring flowing. With thanks to the exhibitors for bringing some lovely hounds for me to judge.

The majority of the hounds where well-presented but disappointed at the amount with long nails which does affect the look of the feet and the way they stand. It’s a small job to do but does make a difference. I had a few bad mouths which we don’t want creeping into our breed but overall I was very happy with the quality of my winners.

MPD(2,1) 1. Lewis Fallowfield Charming Boy very promising 6mth blanketed tri boy with a lovey expression, already showing good profile movement for one so young, tidy angulation all round. Must have a bright future. BPD & RBPIS PD(2,1) 1. Baker Bondlea Choirboy, open marked tri boy of 10mths, good reach of neck onto well muscled shoulders, level topline which was held on the move, another good mover in profile just a tad bit long for me JD(4) 1. Tanner Felinoak Griffyn (A.I) JW 16mth tri boy, lovely expression although all male. Tidy front assembly and showing sound movement in front, a bit unsettled on the stack today but a confident mover won him this class 2. Quantick Parkebreeway Rumour 14mth blanketed tri, lovely balanced look on the stack, giving good reach of neck, showing good muscle throughout, powerful drive behind just a tad bit wide infront possibly due to ground but pushed one hard today. 3. Bayard Seal of Approval at Rhosyndu JW YD(4) 1. Fellows Rosanka Bridges, a close decision between the top two, 20mth T&W youngster, quite a soft expression on this boy but his lovely reach and drive won him this class, tidy shoulder placement and level topline and correct tailset. Well off for bone and well muscled 2. Taylor Rosanka O’Neal by Deaconsfield another nice T&W boy showing a balanced outlook and soft expression. Not quite the shoulder placement off one but a good deep chest and well ribbed back. Sound positive movement on this boy 3. Mapelayne Serendipitous (A.I) TAF ND(2) 1. Baler Bondlea Choirboy (see PD) 2. McBain & Stevens Maplelayne Serendipitous (A.I) TAF, slightly longer mould than1 on this T&W, pleasing construction and good mover would like to see a tighter front. GD(2) 1. McBain & Stevens Mapelayne Serendipitous (A.I) TAF (see ND) 2. Ambridge Julemark Chaos, quite a strong willed tri boy who gave his handler a hard time, once settled on the move showed good profile and front movement just a little tad close behind today. PGD(2) 1. Banks Forgebanks Santiano JW a lovely 2yr old T&W from this kennel, well constructed of larger mould, good lay of shoulder and well off for bone, handled well to bring out the best of him 2. Hooper Davricard Jacobean, 2yr old tri dog with kind expression, correct ear and tail set, well off for bone, showing good rear angulation. Moved ok but looked a bit heavy infront today LD(10,1) 1. Foster and Jones Stormpasture Saddlesoap, a very well balanced 2yr old T&W dog, with a lovely soft expression, well angulated all round, moved effortlessly round the ring today, keeping his level topline held at all times, produces good reach and rive, thought this is the one to beat but just flagged slightly in the challenge, could not deny him the RCC and RBIS 2. Havard Annavah Justify pushed one hard today but felt he didn’t put it all in than I’ve seen previous from this balanced tri dog, shorter mould than one but showing good angulations all round, true coming and going, well off for bone, not much to dislike on this boy 3. Redcap The Courier OD(5,2) 1. Parker & Steven Serenaker Saltydog I was so pleased to see this hound enter the ring, one I have admired from the ringside for quite a while and just me type, freestanding stallion showing great promiss, flashy open marked tri with a soft expression flowing reach of neck onto level topline, well ribbed back and true rear angulation, his flowing effortless profile movement is what won him this class and I could not deny him his 2nd CC and BIS today. 2. Warner Barrvale Hunter at Awebridge, shorter and slightly heavier mould than one on this tri dog, good front assembly and shoulder placement, good ribs and short backed, would like to see more rear angulation to produce more drive from behind. 3. Gemark Eyas SBD(3.1) 1. Breeze’s Parkebreeway Rumor (see JD) 2. Murphy Bayard Seal of Approval at Rhosyndu JW, smaller frame than one but a balanced looking blanketed tri, slightly feminine in head for me, he has positive movement just preferred the rear drive of one. SVD(2) 1. Taylor & Taylor Deaconfield Kingcraft, very balanced tri dog who certainly does not show his age when he moves, so true coming and going and produces great reach and drive due to good front and rear angulation. Softer head than most males but of good shape, good neck leading onto level topline which is held at all times. Could not deny him BVD & BVIS 2. Mitchell & Wright Huntshill Tornado JW. ShCM heavier mould than 1 and carrying a tad bit more weight than I like, pleasing expression and dark eye, good lay of shoulder and level topline, good rear angulation, moved ok SVinD(4,1) 1. Phillips & Keyte Lanesend Segenhoe JW. ShCM. What a fabulous mover in profile for his age at 11yrs. Still having a lovely expression and in great condition, level topline held on the move, a great example that can give it all at this age BSVinIS 2. Roderick Barterhound Garrison, at nearly 15yrs young this T&W can still show how to move, longer cast than one but a balanced hound. This boy just loving his day out in the ring. 3. Black Royal at Rhosyndu VW MPB(4,2) Two promising youngsters, which I’m sure will swop places 1. Lewis Fallowfield Magic lovely sweet expression on this 8mth tnw girl, showing promise in her reachy drive in profile, still has to firm up in front, correct angulation and topline but surely a bright future awaits.BPB, RCC & BPIS 2. Lewis Fallowfield Chatty, another nice youngster from this kennel, 9mth tri bitch liked her shoulder placement and elbows well tucked in, quite unsettled on the move and on the stack but feel she’ll have a lot to give when she matures and settles, preferred head of one PB(0) JB(5,1) 1. Tanner Felinoak Hennessy, loved this 12mth tnw reach of neck and shoulder placement, a bit of a fidget today but gave a balanced look on the stack, well off for bone, would like to see a bit more leg to finish of a very nice picture, won the class on profile movement 2. Parker & Stevens Serenaker Liberty Belle, pushed one hard today, just felt I would like to see a tad bit more bone on this 17mth tri colour girl, she gives a strong topline and carry her stern well, impressed with her profile movement. 3. Parkebreeway Parsniup at Huntshill YB(9, 3) 1. Taylor Rosanka Harlow by Deaconsfield, smart tnw bitch with good front and sound movement throughout, more settled than one, a bit broader in skull than I’d like but a honest bitch 2. Fellows Rosanka Deneuve, I did prefer the balance of this tnw bitch to one but gave the handler such a hard time, a pleasing expression leading to a good length of neck, correct length of leg with good bone, nice tight. Such great reach and drive once settled 3. Scarlett’s Vantonia Enchanted over Michelroy JW NB(6,4) 1. Butters & Theobald Molesend Ibis of Breskar, at only 12mths of age but already showing so much promiss, this ultra feminine tnw bitch just oozes breed type, with her melting expression, lovely flowing neck onto correct front, well off for bone, topline held at all times and solid angualtions, this bitch has so much more to give yet so surely her future looks bright, could not deny her the CC and BOS 2. Hunt Bondlea Cherished, longer cast than one and slightly heavier mould, a bit unsettled on the move but showing balanced movement, good round bone leading onto nice tight feet, correct ear and tailset GB(8) 1. Butters & Theobald Molesend Ibis of Breskar (see NB) 2. Parker & Stevens Bellvalley Roxanne Serenaker, quality tnw bitch with alot to like, melting expression leading onto flowing arched neck, correct front, standing well on to nice tight feet, good spring of rib well back, level topline and well developed backend driving round the ring, promising youngster 3. May’s Janfrey Bellvalley Freda PGB (7,2) 1. Banks Forgebanks Shantung JW tri bitch of lovely shape, moved soundly with good length in her stride, liked the front on this bicth and a sound rear, just lost her topline slightly on the move 2. Barrow Rosanka Skye at Meganjin tri bitch of smaller mould than one, correct earset and tail with nice tight feet, good for bone and of decent muscle tone, slightly heavy infront for me 3. Rushwater Violet Sky (A.I) LB(10, 3) 1. Lewis’ Fallowfield Raya, this kennel seems to have a knack of producing some lovely bitchs and this meets breed type, classy lines with correct angulations, lovely arched neck leading onto balanced shoulders, ribs well back, shown in great condition 2. Lennard Butterow Unity, shame to meet one in fine form today, balanced faded tri of lovely shape and style, nice dark eye, great reach of neck onto balanced shoulders, moved out well in every direction 3. Julemark Primrose at Maplelayne JW OB(8, 1) 1. Breeze’s CH Dufosse Dragonfly of Parkebreeway JW, judged this as a puppy and am so pleased she gained her crown, super clean outline with lovely reach of neck, well ribbed back and level topline which was held at all times, she produces positive movement in all ways, she does have a tendency to lean on the stack 2. Lewis’ Fallowfield Chelsey, smaller mold to one but a very balanced lady on this faded tri, well shaped head with dark pigment, another with good reach of neck, good rear assembly with correct angulations, just felt she was a bit unsettled infront. 3. CH Annavah Nocturne at Barrvale SBB(5) 1. Felinoak Gossip at Rhosyndu (A.I) Balance female with feminine head, dark eye with good length of leathers, ok for bone with nice tight feet, moved ok would like to see more rear angulation 2. Rosanka Skye at Meganjin (see PGB) 3. Rushwater Violet Sky (A.I) SVetB(12) 1. Parker & Stevens CH. Tanner’s Fellinoak Bailey’s N’ice JW same remarks apply to this tri bitch, slightly heavier mould than one but can still move, good front movement and correct in profile, a tad bit close behind today. 3. Ambridge Tiger Lilly Blossom slightly longer cast than one, tnw of 11yrs, good head and neck, looking well for age, good shoulders and spring of rib, a steady mover today but not quite the verve of one. 3.
