I’d like to thank the exhibitors for such a great entry and for accepting my decisions so sportingly. It is some years since I last awarded CCs in papillons, and a lot has changed significantly in the interim. I was very taken aback by a significant number of dogs, who were shockingly underweight. Much has been made of ‘fine and dainty’ of late ,however skin and bone and anorexic disguised by coat, doesnot equate to ‘fine and dainty’, it equates to a weak ,poor body, lacking muscle and whilst we all know juvenile males can be challenging to maintain their body condition, some I found quite disturbing. I was also surprised how many dogs have turned ribs- well over a dozen! and given the high cost of entries, was very surprised at the lack of dental hygiene of some quite young dogs; 2 or 3 years old with appalling plaque /bad breath /gingivitis – not a healthy situation for longevity.
Class 1527 SBD (2 Entries) Abs: 0
1st: 3336 CURRY, Mr D T & Mrs W Wilachans Greatest Showman For Davankirk: Attractive charming tri boy with a very appealing head and expression, lovely smooth moulding to his face and muzzle ,well-shaped dark eye, correctly set, well used mobile rounded ears of good size , rather wayward and needing more training ,but moved along smartly with correct tail carriage, neat feet and level topline , coat whilst quite good length, needs a little more time -rather lacking in body & thin for me .
2nd: 3373 MATTHEWS, Mrs Jayne Baillion Be Unique, well grown dog presented in lovely coat of excellent texture, with particularly well shaped feet. Well-shaped skull of good proportions, longer in foreface, and although large mobile ears somewhat pointed .Good length of leg and loin, not the topline of 1 and a little erratic on the move today.
Class 1528 VD (4 Entries) Abs: 0
1st: 3346 GEARY, Mrs Gill Taliesyn Black Walnut, won this class on type, correct size and bone, has a well-balanced head, nice length of foreface, good eye and expression ,well used ears of correct shape & fine leathers, quite well fringed, moves freely, good body proportions, quite well angulated , reasonably well covered ,disappointing presentation and teeth .
2nd: 3356 GRIFFITHS, Dr E A & GRIFFITHS, Dr M L Manawyddan Victor Hugo, Soundly built dog albeit well up to size, beautifully presented in correctly textured jacket ,good feet,a very nice dark eye giving a good expression framed by lovely spread of well fringed ears, but too heavy in skull & head and too strong in foreface for me .

2nd: 3332 CARTER, Mr Derek & CARTER, Mrs KARAN Graycaz Making Moonlight, nicely presented well grown boy with a very nice topline & outlook ,attractive colouration, coat beginning to come , quite well angulated behind but needs time to settle in front, tendency to stand with head forward rather than upright, giving him an unbalanced outline in profile, moves freely ,well-schooled ,not quite the expression and balanced head/foreface of 1.

difficult class
1st: 3361 HEADLEY, Mrs Christine & HEADLEY, Mr Tony R Yeldaeh's Mr Fezzywig
Smaller, short-coupled r/w boy put down in good coat, with quite nice head, correct mouth, really very fine all through, still needs to body up & settle, particularly in front. moved ok, Needs time. Not enough of him for me.
2nd: 3406 TAYLOR, Mrs Pamela Pamhurst Neeps And Tatties
At the other extreme, bigger type of boy presented well, with heavier bone, in good coat, although better balanced throughout and moved ok, too much of him for me and carrying far too much weight.
3rd: 3360 HEADLEY, Mrs Christine & HEADLEY, Mr Tony R Yeldaeh's Mr Tumble, most appealing puppy with good head and topline, but was not moving as he should ,going away, today which cost him the class.
Class 1531 JD (8 Entries) Abs: 1
1st: 3401 STANBURY, Mrs S Inixia Glamorous Guy: b/w dog with very good body, nice spring of rib, lythe and well-muscled unlike the majority. Spot on for size, correct fine bone without weakness, strong topline and tail carriage, good pasterns and correctly shaped feet ,nice length of neck, well angulated stifle with correct hocks ,well balanced head of good proportions, nice foreface without heaviness, good ears and expression, moves off with verve, just needs more coat especially at the rear to complete the picture-beat his litter sister for BJIB.
2nd: 3370 MANN, Mrs M & MANN, Mrs C & MORRELL, Mrs S Braunswood Mask Of Zorro By Melangel: Pleasing r/w solid headed dog of good size and type, nice length of back and length of leg, liked his finely pointed foreface, fits together with skull really well, attentive showman ,moved freely ,needs time for coat and furnishings , a lot to like, but not the body and tone today or sweetness of expression of 1 .
3rd: 3336 CURRY, Mr D T & Mrs W Wilachans Greatest Showman For Davankirk -very neat little chap.
Res: 3393 QUINN, Mrs R Bresar's L'essenziale (Imp) It -very nice type just too thin for me.

Class 1532 GD (7 Entries) Abs: 0
1st: 3392 QUINN, Mrs R Amber Beauty Xany (Imp Pol) – RCC- really impressed by this young handsome, stylish b/w dog, who has lots of time on his side. Lovely type with a classic head, good mouth, lovely dark bright expressive eye, super large ears, well fringed, lovely elegant body which all fits together so well, with nice depth of chest, long tail well fringed ,not a small boy or a showing fool, but so refined, super mover both ways, lovely shaped feet ,just needs a little more maturity in body and coat to finish the picture.
2nd: 3333 CASEY, Mrs J Inixia Happy Hour For Shamal, very neat well-presented clear r/w lad with a very pleasing well-balanced head, quite ‘pretty’ in face, with an appealing and alert bright & merry expression, good topline and tail carriage, presented in good coat of correct texture with refined bone, and handled to advantage. Moved quite well.

1St.Handsome r/w boy who I judged & liked as a puppy, with such a lovely appealing head and expression, impressive spread of large mobile ears, beginning to come into his own now, needs a little more time for his coat to reach his full potential. A very well-made taller boy, up to size, but no signs of coarseness, lovely bend of stifle and correct hock, well-shaped feet and good pasterns ,strong loin and level topline, well set and carried tail, can stand over extended in front at times in his eagerness, but so fluent on the move when moved at the correct pace & not rushing, a fitted jacket of the correct texture and a super showman.
2nd: 3335 CURRY, Mr D T & Mrs W Wilachans Gryffindor For Davankirk
Finer type r/w boy, with the most lovely hare feet, nicely presented coat -albeit a shorter fitted jacket lacking length as yet, needs more time for his head to come together ,a little strong in skull for the strength of foreface at this time ,giving him an unbalanced appearance in head at the moment, although not the topline or movement of 1, gave a good account of himself today.
Class 1534 LD (10 Entries) Abs: 1
1st: 3331 CARTER, Mr Derek & CARTER, Mrs KARAN Graycaz On A Mission Jw – CC
Have watched this impressive dog from ringside and was most certainly not disappointed on closer view. He has one of the nicest heads to handle, from his slightly rounded skull though the beautifully moulded cheeks into his finely pointed foreface, with good mouth, correct underjaw and tight lips, all fitting smoothly together, without a blaze, his totally symmetrical face markings add to the visual refinement in head. Good eye and well fringed ears giving a pleasing expression. A lovely depth of rib through to a graceful sweep over the loin, level topline, well angulated rear, very nice body., well-toned, strong shoulders, well-muscled neck holding his head proudly when moving, a very graceful dog, presented in full coat of excellent texture, albeit somewhat heavily marked to be super critical, gives a surprisingly mature picture for his young age. Good showman who put in a super performance, well deserved DCC/BOB
2nd: 3378 MORRIS, Mrs Ann A Tarnock Tap Dance Teddy, a lot to like in this b/w dog, a lovely type with a pleasing head and expression, well set eye and large well shaped ears- well fringed, quite well made, just about enough neck, nice level topline, well-shaped feet, moved ok but too underweight for me.

A very nice class :
1st: 3413 WELLS, The Rev'd Kirsty & BROWN, Ms Amanda Skyvana Caught At Metamorphic, This b/w dog I’ve long admired and was very pleased to handle him, quite heavily coated fully mature dog of good length and height, lovely elegant type without being too fine, liked the refinement in skull fitting into the finely pointed foreface well fringed ears of good spread, good length of neck running into nicely angulated shoulder, well angulated behind, well set and carried tail of good length. Very neat mover, stands well-was a very close up decision for RCC just pipped at the post.
2nd: 3400 STANBURY, Mrs S Ch Elendil Knights Templar At Inixia -another super sound well bodied dog from this kennel, slightly heavier type than 1, with more breadth of skull & fuller foreface, but a very handsome upstanding dog of excellent type, although not quite the finish of 1. moved out well & oozing vitality.
3rd: 3407 URQUHART, Mr G Blackpark Bastille -ultra elegant dog of very refined type presented in the most superb silken coat & condition, impressive length, balance and topline with the truest of hare feet, although a little reluctant to perform to his best today.

1st: 3323 ANDERSON, Mrs Christine Ch Pappretty Grt Expectations – definitely the one lovely handsome mature dog I would happily take home, a very worthy champion, presented in fabulous coat, delightful face and expression, moves out really well, lovely loin and length, super tail set and carriage ,well-schooled and handled, a touch too thin under his profuse coat for me today , but a firm favourite to be admired and a strong contender.
2nd: 3410 WALSH, Ms Helen Purepixie Red Admiral; unlucky to meet 1 in such top form in this class ,another handsome boy in his prime, lovely size and shape ,well coated and a very attractive dark r/w with a super dark eye ,good head, slightly shorter in leg than 1 and not the positivity in movement today .
3rd: 3341 FENN WEBBER, Ms V Tarnock Pocket Scotch, immature junior dog who gave a lot away to his more mature competition today , nice level topline and pleasing head but needs to strengthen overall in body most especially in front .
