South Wales Kennel Association – General Championship Show

Friday 10th October 2025

Judge – Miss Ceri Simpson (Leriton)

I would like to thank the officers and committee of South Wales Kennel Association for their kind invitation to judge at this show.

A wonderful venue, one of my favourite show grounds to compete at, so a real privilege to be asked to judge here.

Thank you to all the exhibitors for bringing forward your beautiful Large Munsterlanders.

Large Munsterlander:

Junior dog (2,2)

1. Mrs J Jenks – Albadhu Force Be With You.

7 month old dog.

A handsome young dog of good type, presenting a strong yet refined outline with no exaggeration. Well up to size, masculine throughout, with a clean neck flowing into well-laid shoulders, firm topline, and good depth of chest. Ribs well-sprung and carried back, and a pleasing length of loin completing the picture.

Head of correct proportions, strong with a gentle expression with dark eyes and correctly set ears.

Initially a touch enthusiastic on the move, but once he settled, he adopted a rhythmic stride, showing true movement both fore and aft. Topline a little loose today but he is young and I’m sure his core will strengthen as he develops.

He shared a lovely rapport with his handler, who got the very best from him, showing him to advantage in both stance and movement. A young dog who will no doubt continue to mature and improve further with time and experience.

Best Puppy & Reserve Best Dog

1. Mrs K Pilkington – Albadhu Playing With Fire at Baycross.

10 month old dog.

A well-made dog of good type, combining substance with elegance. Presents a balanced and workmanlike outline — everything in proportion. Strong, clean neck front, he moves straight and true when settled but showing a tendency to toe out a little coming toward when unsettled today. When viewed in profile, he drives powerfully from the rear with developing second thighs and strong hocks, but struggled to cover the ground of 1 today due to his happy, young dog exuberance. He did however show glimpses of a movement that is both athletic and economical. Very smartly presented.

Post Graduate Dog (0,0)

Open dog (2,1)

1. Ms J E and Mr A E Powell & Murrell – Sh Ch Crumpsbrook Woodrush.

Upstanding 8 year old dog who presents a picture of classical type and balance, immediately catching the eye for his proportion and quality. A masculine dog of good size without coarseness, showing strength and substance while retaining the refinement required of the breed. Head of correct length and shape with parallel planes, giving an expression that is intelligent and kind. Dark, oval eyes set correctly, enhancing his typical Munsterlander expression. Ears well set and nicely feathered, lying close to the skull.

Neck of good length, clean and muscular, flowing smoothly into well-laid shoulders. Front assembly correct, with straight forelegs and ample bone. Chest deep with well-sprung ribs carried well back. Firm, level topline maintained both standing and on the move, with a strong loin and slightly sloping croup leading into a well-feathered tail carried level with the back and wagging constantly — a pleasing hallmark of the breed’s temperament.

Coat a nice texture and in excellent condition, nicely marked and well-presented. A lovely dog who shows true breed type and was presented in first-class order. A worthy champion!

Best dog & Best of Breed

Junior bitch (1,1)

1. Mrs K M Saynor – Ekkolander Rumour

17 month old bitch.

A quality bitch who immediately drew my eye for her balance, type, and feminine strength. She presents a pleasing outline, combining substance with athleticism, and stands over the ground with confidence and purpose. Lovely head and expression – an intelligent but alert outlook that speaks of her breed’s dual nature as worker and companion. Good length of neck flowing cleanly into well-laid shoulders, firm topline maintained both standing and on the move.

Well-sprung ribs with depth through the chest, strong loin and correct tail set – the happiest of tails when on the move. Quarters are powerful and very well muscled, with well-turned stifles and hocks that allow her to drive cleanly from behind. Moved with reach and drive, covering the ground freely and effortlessly, holding her outline at all times.

Could benefit from a little more covering and coat in places to polish the ‘finish’.

Reserve best Bitch

Open bitch (4,2)

1. Mr G T & Mrs J Darby – Crumpsbrook Anneke to Incadar.

21 month old bitch

A very attractive and feminine bitch of pleasing type who really draws and keeps the eye when she enters the ring. Well-balanced throughout with good proportions and a lovely outline both standing and on the move. The best of heads with kind expression, dark eye and well-set ears. Clean through the neck, leading into well-laid shoulders and a firm, level topline.

Good depth of chest, well-ribbed back, and strong loin. Hindquarters well-muscled and used to advantage on the move, showing drive and purpose. Straight front, good bone and neat, tight, well-padded feet. Moved soundly with reach and drive, holding her topline at all times.

Coat of correct texture and in excellent condition, nicely marked and well-presented. A lovely bitch who shows true breed type and was presented in first-class order.

Best bitch and Best opposite sex

2. Ms J E and Mr A E Powell & Murrell – Tureagh Crystal Cider

Rising 5 year old bitch

A well-constructed, mature bitch of pleasing type and balance, showing good substance but still feminie. A more substantial frame than 1. Feminine head of correct proportions, another with a nice dark, expressive eye giving a typical, gentle expression. Ears well set and carried close to the head.

Strong, clean neck of moderate length flowing smoothly into well-laid shoulders. Good return of upper arm, giving correct forehand angulation. Straight front with strong bone, tight, well-arched feet. Deep chest reaching to the elbow with well-sprung ribs, firm topline and strong, slightly arched loin leading to well-developed hindquarters.

Croup slightly rounded with a decent on set tail, carried a little low but level on the move. Moved out freely with good reach in front and strong drive from behind, maintaining her outline and balance at all times but a little less enthusiastic about her job today than 1.
